  1. Well I couldn't stand it any longer. I've been doing nothing but dash building for weeks and needed inspiration. So this afternoon one of my buddies came over and we bled the brakes. I tested the brakes by pulling forward and back but then decided I was taking it on a short ride. Damn this thing is noisy with just the block huggers and the fumes..... The first pull it didn't seem to want to shift. I stopped and took off again and it shifted fine. It seemed to be a bit lacking on power at partial throttle but when it reached higher RPMs (no clue what since I didn't have the gauges hooked up) it took off like a rocket, yahoo . I do not have O2 sensors installed yet so that might have something to do with the somewhat erratic performance. The whole thing was over in less that 5 minutes and I pulled it back in the garage before the neighbors called the cops, LOL. One thing that is bothering me is a clanging or banging sound coming from the right rear only when I back up. I will crawl under it tomorrow and see if I can see anything obvious. I'm fired up again. I think I'll head down to the muffler shop and see when I can get the exhaust work done. I plan on using most of the old pipes from the old 350 setup and changing the tail pipes to exit on both sides instead of only the driver's side. Of course I will have them install the O2 sensers. http://www.dejavideo.net/280z8/first-run.wmv
  2. I've had good luck using Turtle Wax upholstery cleaner. Bummer about your car. My Mom lives in Tucson, had her Neon stolen out of her parking lot. The cops were actually pretty good, they found it 2 months later in Mexico.
  3. That is an awesome beast. Great job, I can see why it took 5 years. What SCCA class is that going to fall into?
  4. You could be right, might be worth a chance.
  5. Yep, thats why I Emailed him, but he still says NO. He might not know for sure and is covering his butt.
  6. Have you seen this one? It is fiberglass but no ducts. He has several listed on EBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSAN-DATSUN-240Z-260Z-FRONT-SPOILER-ADD-ON-BODY-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ014QQitemZ330165209154QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I Emailed him to see if they would fit a '77 280Z, he said NO. Bummer.
  7. Pretty cool. Much like the ram-air used in the late 60s and early 70s. My '70 AMX had one very similar with the addition of a vacuum activated door that would open the hood scoop during full throttle. I removed that door so the engine would always get cooler air. One funny thing, doing about 90 on the freeway I hit a bird, feathers went everywhere. When I arrived home I popped the hood to check the oil and discovered a bird head sitting in the pan that surrounded the air cleaner. Apparently he was decapitated during the 90 mph hit.
  8. Both for me. He gave me that same 3-4 week crap, took 2 months and then the front bumper needed a lot of work to make it usable. The front spoiler did not fit my 280Z, I believe it was for a 240. I called and he just seemed annoyed and would not even consider a refund. I can only imagine how long it would have taken to get my money back even if he would have agreed to a refund. I made the bumper work but the spoiler is still in the garage. My advise.. run away, run away.
  9. If you're putting it int he passenger compartment Odyssey is your only choice. Standard batteries out gas some nasty fumes, Odyssey batteries don't.
  10. Welcome to our little cyber world. As far as questions, its true there is not a lot of "search for it" answers posted here. There is a wealth of knowledge to be found if you search and read the FAQ. The first thing you want to do is get the JTR manual and read it through. Even if you choose not to use JTR stuff the information will save you a lot of time and effort. This has been done so many times there should be no major surprises if you do the research. People here are very helpful if you follow the rules. Read the FAQ first, search second, ask questions last. Granted searching can be frustrating at times since it pulls a lot of unrelated stuff up but eventually you will find what you want. Also the are several people that have websites about their swaps that contain a lot of information, Click on the poster's name and look in the pull down to see if they have a website. Good luck on the 350 swap. I am finishing up my LT1 swap, it really isn't that tough, its the little things and the while I'm at it things that take the longest.
  11. Your buddies transmission won't last long with no cooler at all.
  12. The camaro fan is almost identical to the 280z fan. 5 3/8" in diam and 2 7/8 tall. But it has a lot more fins.
  13. Sorry, I didn't see this last night. I will check the diam of the Camaro fan tonight. But it will fit in the Datsun housing, motor and all with minimal modification to the housing.
  14. A '94 Camaro fan and motor will fit inside the Datsun housing with a little tweaking of the mounting screw hole and clearance for the Camaro wiring connector.
  15. Holy crap! Well I guess they accomplished what they wanted. Glad to hear you figured it out.
  16. $70 from http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/0113.asp Nice car too.
  17. LOL, my brother works at Davis-Montham and has a connection at the boneyard. Maybe he can fix him up!
  18. Really? You'd think that once you've changed from a Datsun to a Chevy engine it wouldn't matter what the new engine came from. But then again trucks and cars have different smog rules in most other states? Is that also true in California? Georgia has no smog requirements for anything older than 25 years.
  19. Looks awesome. I like the black engine bay myself.
  20. I used a couple of moving dollies I picked up at Harbor Freight for $20 each, 1 under the engine and 1 under the tranny. I used some 4x4s to make the engine/transmission sit level and steady while I was getting the car ready for transplant.
  21. Your car is amazing to say the least. You've raised the bar for sure. I was just in Tucson last week, should have come up to see it in person, next time.
  22. Congrats, it can be a long road but that first ride is always worth it.
  23. I am using 95 TransAM gauges in my LT1 swap. But I cheated and am using the complete wiring harness from my doner car. Mine is a 94 LT1 but here is a link to a 95 firebird gauge cluster connector which gets you one end. No clue if they are the same as an LS1. http://shbox.com/1/95_ta_cluster_pinout.jpg. I actually have a Z28 harness and of course the connector for the Z28 and TransAm are not the same, I had to move 32 wires!
  24. I not sure I want to attempt even removong the old one myself, we'll see how brave I get. Never thought about the new seal not covering the new paint edge, good point. I really can't believe the previous owner went to all that expense of a nice new paint job and didn't remove the horrible old windshield first
  25. ADS 17x7 wheels 40 offset using MM 1" Honda adapters with Falken Ziex ZE-512 215/50/17 tires. This phots was taken before the lowering springs were installed.
