  1. Hi Ryan, the fuel pumps are a Holley type primary and a Ford electric pump from a PU as the secondary. Pump noise does not seem to bad but I have yet to drive it. I rerouted the exhaust to gain room for the fuel pumps and filter. The Fire Safe Cell is also larger than the old Harwood cell that was in it before. I reused the existing muffs by stacking them and welding them together. It worked out pretty well. I need to fab up a finishing piece for the rear Valance panel.
  2. Got a few more pics of the Z's progress. It is back on the ground and needs to be aligned. I will need a dry day so that I can line it up. I refuse to work in the rain if I can avoid it. One new item is an accumulator that I installed under the hood. It also got a 4 wheel set of Porterfield R4S pads. I also redid the exhaust system, so it now has both pipes out the left side, fuel pumps were mounted on the right where the muffler was before. I built my own Filter/surge tank using parts from NAPA. I added a -6 fitting to the top to use as a return to the tank. Anyway here is some pics. Forgive the welding on the pipes, I could not find my glasses. Will be racin soon! WOOWHO!! Mongo
  3. Foreign object went thru engine. You would have chunks of piston missing if those pieces were from detonation. Material can go thru the turbo. My $.02 Mongo
  4. Thanks for all the input fellas. I went with the RA1's in a 275-40 X 17. They are sold by the local tire merchant (Les Schwab Tires) and are on the shelf locally. $999.20 mounted, balanced, Metal stems. ouch! But a pretty good price considering. Mongo
  5. Cool! Change them all, probably needs them all replaced. Mongo
  6. What about the rear soft plugs? 2 in the back/bellhousing area I believe. Mongo
  7. Looking at all the different tires and their specs, I am leaning toward the RA1 Mongo
  8. Looks like I can start doing some comparison researech. Is "Tire Rack" the best place to purchase? I notice they don't handle Toyos, suggestions on toyo dealers? Thanks for ideas, any others? Mongo
  9. Hey guys, I am in the market for a new set of tires for the Z. The car will be used for Hill Climbs and a few Open Road races. I will not likley be running at the front of the class as this will be a new type of racing for me. I need to drive conservatively as I dont want to break or bend the car. This is for fun with my Son. I need tires that stick well and are consistant for many miles (not 60 Sec A/X blasts). Hopefully,( one can dream), they will last a season (6-10 events). There are not really many miles driven at these events, so they will probably hold up ok. Tire size is 275-40x17, F&R. Probably a track day type tire would fit the bill. What are your suggestions? Thanks, Mongo
  10. Won't be long now!! looking good Paul! John
  11. Here are some more pics of the latest mods. The fuel cell is almost ready to get its lid(waiting for a fitting). I am using aluminum Diamond plate for the can and cover. I also went with another piano hinge latch assy. I have also fabbed up a couple of new rear A-Arms. The originals weighed a ghastly 18 lbs. each. The new ones come in at 9 lbs. I modified the way the shock attaches by using an adjustable push rod,to a center link, then to the shock. I can change the push rod length, and the lower shock mounting position to change the way the spring rate rises. The center link may be modified for adjustable length at a later date. The rear susp. will be sealed using the legs from a neoprene wet suit as flexable seals. Wet suit was purchased on E-bay for $5. I love E-bay!! Mongo
  12. How about a different set of side gears? Mongo
  13. Ryan, do you know if any of the other carriers use stubs that have the same spline? John
  14. Doh! My Bad. I mean't "backlash" not free play. Mongo
  15. very cool Ryan, keep us posted!! What do the stock stubs look like? How about free play issues? Mongo
  16. Don't forget RHD steering rack, steering column,Switchs, and pedal assembly. You don't need a firewall. the existing firewall is used and holes are cut for column and pedals.the best way to do this swap is to find a donor car or a front clip to supply parts. RHD can be kind of fun but it has its drawbacks also. Passing can be rather IFFY when a truck is in front of you. It will not be an inexpensive swap. Mongo
  17. If you are working with Lye (Sodium Hydroxide), do yourself a big favor and wear safety "Goggles". Eyeballs and Lye are not compatible with each other!!! One other warning, the bubbles that will be produced using this process are highly flammable(hydrogen). Good ventilation and a lack of ignition sources is mandatory!! Mongo
  18. All right Ron!! This is gonna be a really sweet ride! Mongo
  19. I used an old Weber Aluminum flywheel(standard old school aftermarket part), along with a LS1 bell housing. I had to fabricate a new pilot bushing that extended farther to the rear. a Hydraulic T.O. brg was used as well as a 3/4"(?) spacer between the bell housing and the trany. Standard SBC clutch disc and PP were used. FWIW Mongo
  20. I personally think the stock seats leave much to be desired. You can probably get some nice seats at You-Pull-It for less than the cost of a rebuild of your old seats. FWIW... Not much LOL Mongo
  21. Thanks John! Is a hinged door allowable for access to the fuel filler cap? Similar to this? Mongo
  22. I have I have done a pretty thorough search of our site, and also studied the SCCA GCR, and I am still not clear as to what is allowed as a cover plate for my cell. I know that it has to be enclosed in a 20Ga. steel can. The question I have is; Is it allowable to have the fuel cell " access/cover plate " flush mounted on the rear compartment floor? (gas cap and fittings exposed). Or does the entire assembly have to be behind, or under, a steel fire wall or cover? Thanks, Mongo
  23. I have been installing a new Fuel Cell. I still have to build the can to set it in. I also need to figure out a good way to run my fuel and vent lines lines. As soon as I get this finished up, I will move on to rear a-arm mods. Here are some pics. Mongo
