  2. I was scouring the bone yard the otherday and found a VIRGIN 327 SJ. I pulled it and drug it home listened to the wife yell "Another Motor??? " and tore it down the heads were incorrect (882 heavyweights) but I got a good 4" block and a forged crank, flat top pistons and the front fill intake 4BBL . I was thinking about a cheap set of vortec heads(I know I cant use the stock intake ) and a good carb to make a decent street motor any ideas on a cam?? also what is the besy HP/TQ number I can expect from these heads?? Keith
  3. I was A Tech student a while back but now I'm just a working stiff. Keith
  4. Hey Grump thanks for the info thus far I was just reading some of your other posts about roller cams and since I have not bought any cams ot lifters yet I was wondering what you would recomend to go with a full roller set up? I only plan on building this motor once and dont mind waiting to get what I want! Also were do you recommend I purchase those canfeid heads? Keith
  5. That is what I call a bunch of lazy painters!!! Keith
  6. Yes that was a major mis-type a 1975 Chassis needs to use a 1976 or newer engine Sorry about the confusion Keith
  7. Get the JTR set up PLEASE!!!!! The hooker/scarab set up will kill your auto-x time I have driven both the difference is night and day!! Keith
  8. no your 71 is exempt I was just futher explaining the law you can run your 327 with no problems!!! Keith
  9. They are not ported and they have not been opened up for the big valves. I might throw them on e-bay Ive seen some stupid things draw big bucks!!! Keith
  10. That is about what I figured them to be big chunks of cast iron junk oh well I got a new boat anchor now Keith
  11. I was cleaning out the shop today and came across a set of heads I picked up on a swap a few years back these are bare but are still covered in cosmolene from the machine shop. The casting numbers are 14102191 and are center bolt style are these worth any thing in a performance engine or are they just big door stops? I hope I can use them for something if they are not a big flow head how much hp potentional are in them? Keith
  12. Hey Pete nice mod! Just do me a favor, put a pinion nut on there before you bolt up a drive shaft!!!! Keith
  13. I am an emissions inspector in allison park The rules in pa are 1974 or older model years are exempt fron testing if the car is registered it will be written on your registration card "emissions exempt" if your chassis is older than the 1974 cut off the engine must be newer than the chassis you must pass at the levels for your model year. a good running engine should have no problem the test for 77 is a idle speed w/HC's below 440 ppm that is not hard to beat!!!! Keith
  14. I'll be putting a small order into summit soon.is there a set of rings I should get? or any that I should stay away from? Keith
  15. Ok then I will hold out for the canfeild heads also what kind of intake and carb yould you recommend for my application? I can't thank you enough for your recommendations and the tech artical's you post oh so often thank you again Keith

  17. Thanks Grumpy!!! I was wondering if there are any chevy heads that will also work I come across some great deals on fresh heads. Are there any particuler casting numbers I should be on the lookout for?? Or should I start saveing money for the canfeilds?? Keith
  18. I was going to retype it but here is the link instead http://www.dve.com/onair/morningshow/bricklayer_poor_plan.html I found this to be quite amusing!!! Keith
  19. OK here goes I have a four bolt 350 block with ARP studs and windage tray, a stock 400 crank swinging GM rods with ARP bolts topped with speed pro pistons (part number L2491.030(Forged)) I was wondering if anybody could point me to a good head cam combo for this engine. The other parts I have gathered are 7/16" ARP rocker studs 1.6:1 roller rockers I would like to keep them. the other variables are a TH-700R4 with a 3000 Stall 9" non-lockup converter and a Dana 44m Diff from a 1982 Corvette (3.08:1??) the projected tire size is 255/50/16 (more once the coil overs are installed) I'm not opposed to Iron heads if the will work they may be heavy but they are cheaper!! I may add a little blue bottle in the future. The car will mostly see street duty but WILL be on the track at least once a month!! I am a bit concerend about the compression I would like to run on 89 octane but if 94 would be better I dont have any issues with that. Also if yoou could give me a estimated HP & Tourqe figure that yould help. Thanks much I love this board!! Keith
