  1. Yup, it was me. I drive I-4 to work. It is a white 77 280z, but 240z bumpers, turbo, etc... I was wondering how long it would be before someone posted a "HybridZ" sticker sighting here in Orlando... mike
  2. Lookin good!! I hope to see it in person in March at the SEZ5 event!! ~Mike
  3. Scottie, Clark has one, drop him a line... Mike
  4. I replaced all the bearings in the diff. All were available from http://www.courtesyparts.com/secondtier_s30.html ~mike
  5. Just an FYI I am having the 3.36 gear set installed into an 87 LSD carrier. An interesting (note: getting expensive) thing I found is that the outer pinion bearing area of the 3.36 has a larger diameter than that of the 3.70 pinion. I figured, "while I was at it", I would have all the bearings and seals replaced in the LSD. After getting the wrong size outer pinion bearing 3 times from Nissan for the 3.36 pinion gear, I took both pinions to a machine shop and had the 3.36 outer pinion bearing area machined down to that of the 3.70 diameter. I can't imagine why the outer pinion bearings wouild be different sizes. I wish I had bought the whole diff and not just the gear set, it would have saved money and headaches to have just swapped the carrier and left the gear set alone. Grrrr
  6. Drax, where do you want your RPM band to come in and drop off? My experience thus far is that you want to match the turbo w/ the cam... The T3 comes on at roughly 2500 rpms and starts to drop off somewhat on the top end around 6000 or so... I would think that a staggared (sp?) .510 and .490 lift cam would be coming on closer to 3600 rpms. I ran a .490 lift cam that came on around 3500 and a T-66 w/ a p-trim wheel and .58 a/r turbine housing with which I had full boost ~3800 rpms and would pull strong through 7000. I know you do your performance driving on an autocross course, so at what rpms do you spend most of your driving? If it is between 3000 and 6000, I would think a little milder cam, if it is up in the revs, then the one you posted will work well. I think you will be upgrading the turbo then to suite your cam/rpm relationship in the near future... Just my .02
  7. I know Scottie is away for the weekend (24 Hours of Daytona), but I'll get with him and we'll catch up with you. I look forward to meeting you and seeing the car as well. Regards, Mike Gadwaw

    Differential

Well, it will depend on the condition of your rear end, driveshaft, transmission, driveshaft angle, etc and whether you have cv's or u-joint axles... My former 240z had u-joints and a rather loud r200, and I could definately hear a droning as I went down the road (especially highway). My 280z turbo has an LSD w/ cv's and was not loud at all (comparitively) until recently when my tranny started making noise... That sound too is transfered through the solid diff mount...
  9. James still may do one for you... Drop him a line, Mike
  10. Stock rods and crank are fine. Just have the crank journals polished and the rods resized (you can even have the rods magnafluxed to check for cracks if you like), but they will handle tons of abuse.
  11. I like it!! The old gauge in the visor trick and the wires can all be hidden behind the front trim piece... I'll probably do some pillar mount deal, maybe integrated into the roll cage... dunno yet for sure... BTW nice dash
  12. Oat - The gentleman who made the mounts wants to see how well my "engine monut cradle" holds up before making duplicate mounts. They should be pretty straight forward for him to copy. It is my understanding that US spec 2JZGTE's are mid (rear) sump pans. The J-spec motors are front sump. The front sump would interfere w/ the oil pan. The cradle sits well behind the original crossmember. I'll measure it out if you like... Wheel - I preferred to weld to the rails to stiffen the frame. I also thought that if it were bolted through the frame, the amount of torque the engine will produce may make the bolt holes oblong over time. The oil pan is maybe1/2 inch below the original crossmember... if that. The tranny pan is slightly lower than the oil pan, maybe 3/4 of an inch below the front crossmember.
  13. Fits perfectly...it seems to be the preferred manifold...
  14. Welcome to central Fl!! BTW beautiful car as well. If you need an extra set of hands lemme know!! Mike Gadwaw Orlando, Fl
  15. With the motor sitting where it is, it easily clears the hood (probably 2-3 inches or more). The turbo outlet will be clocked downward w/ a 90* bend welded to it, avoiding the hood as well. It is moved back as fas as possible in the engine bay, maybe 3/4 inch from the firewall and 1/2 inch off of the steering rack, so weight distribution should work out well. I removed the stock hood latch mounting bracket to do so (I'll be using hood pins in it's place).
  16. Yep, from what I understand, he blew a piston, rebuilt the motor w/ GTE internals, after a little dyno time and a few drag passes, he sold it to me. I ran a leak down test when it arrived, and all was good. I hope to be driving it by mid-end February. Just incase you missed my thread (hidden in the turbo forum), here's my progress thus far... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=98387
  17. Tyson, if your buddy was Dave G, he ran the GE block (no oil squirters, less windage supposedly), but GTE internals and made 695 rwhp. I have his motor...
  18. DOH!! I better make a note of it Thanks all. the color is Datsun yellow 112 (AKA lime) with a green pearl added to the clear coat on the exterior. The paint is new, but there are plenty of flaws, so a show car it is not... It was painted in a neighbor's driveway... And yep.. now everything else ...
  19. Kudos to Rick (Speeder) for the use of bandwidth... here are a few mount shots... http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts8.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts7.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts6.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts5.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts4.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts3.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts2.jpg http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/mounts1.jpg
  20. Do you remember the 240z shell that was sitting in the corner of the garage... well, that is it. I finally decided to get somewhere with it. BTW Jeff, I still owe you a half shaft. I haven't forgotten ya man!!
  21. I bid $100,000 but you outbid me Stony!! LOL!!
