  1. It sounds like the running rich problem could be the cause of all the symptoms you mentioned...
  2. Ross, any word yet on a front mount? Thanks, Mike
  3. Very cool, glad to hear the 5000 rpm stumble is taken care of... Regards, mike
  4. Moridin, the car was blue. As far as the speed goes, well, I do not suggest doing it on a regular basis. I have only had the car that fast one other time (just to see if it would do it). This time the adrenaline was flowing and clouded my better judgement. From a dead stop, I'm sure he would have jumped all over me, but the runs were kinda on my ground, (3rd gear rolls) where my power comes on at 4000 rpms. The large turbo and the 490 lift cam are like peanut butter and jelly and both hit at the same rpm's (3800 or so). As for power, maybe I will go dyno the car before I pull the drivetrain. I would like to compare this motor to the 3.1 I pulled out. The biggest improvements have to be the bolt-ons (1100cfm Spearco, aluminum bend coming off of the turbo and the cam to compliment the turbo). I wish I would have had all this with the 3.1 before I sold it My HKS EVC EZ boost controller is crapping out on me now only giving me ~10 psi, but I have a replacement on the way. Maybe I should keep this car as my daily and sell the the others I have...hmmm
  5. Tires : Yokohama AVS Sport on 16" Enkie mesh wheels The car was suprisingly stable at that speed, but I wasn't there for very long either. L28ET, I have a possible buyer, but no $ exchanged hands yet (you know how that goes...) I must admit, the Cobra sounded MEAN!! The exhaust note was a high pitched almost raspy sound (for a V8). It is always a satisfying feeling to see the fruits of your labor pay off...especially when you have a witness. I found out a guy from work saw it start, he tried to keep up for a while, but gave up (Honda driver)
  6. Nope... not in the 3.0 daily. I am just enjoying the L28 turbo before it gets pulled in favor of the 2JZ. I hope to get to it in a couple of weeks between school semesters. By the way, the T-66 turbo I am running rocks from 3800 rpms on. 13 psi with that turbo is a lot of fun
  7. Well, had a memorable drive home from work tonight. In fact, I had a blast!! I came off of interstate 4 (for you locals) onto the 528 (Beeline). There was an 04 Cobra in front of me and we played cat and mouse until there was an open window of no traffic. I was in 3rd gear (~ 13 psi) and he jumped on it in font of me. We had 2 lanes, so I went to the outside lane and just walked a car in front of him. We had a long drive home, so the cat and mouse game went on for a little while. I kept running in front of him and after some 3rd to 4th gear pulls, I would slow down at the nearly the top of 4th. I would hit the brakes a few times to let him know that I was slowing down. At the first toll booth on 528, I was right behind him as he went through the E-pass lane, which I did too. I saw him jump into it again and move into the right lane (must've known I was coming) and as exhaust passed out his tailpipes, I stepped into it again and went past him, shifting 4th, and then eventually shifting into 5th, burying the speedo (160+), with him falling back. We pulled off at the next exit together and cordially waved to each other. I do not know what mods he had other than gauge pillars on the driver's side, but this was my first run in with a new cobra and I really had a fun tim. He gave me a thumbs up and a wave before I turned off and I did the same. I bet he is going for more mods in the very near future though
  8. Contact ARP. I believe it is only like 50-55 lbs if you use the moly lube that they provide.
  9. Yep Joel, if it is a Spearco, it may be the same one that I am running and the same one I picked up (18.5x6x3.5 core ~1080 cfm's). I am going to need opposite side endtanks for the 2JZ, so I jumped on this one.
  10. Just keep looking, I just picked this one up for a song... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33742&item=2467491470&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWN%3AIT It was spelled wrong in the title
  11. Are you putting the correct ends in on all the studs? Opposite ends are threaded differently... Just a thought, Mike
  12. Also, make sure the place you are having it bored uses a torque plate to do it. (Simulates having a head bolted to the block)
  13. You may want to run an el-cheapo mechanical water temp gauge into the thermostat housing to see what it is really doing. I don't trust the 30 year old gauges. I thought my 77 ran hot until I hooked up a mechanical gauge to it as well.
  14. That looks very well done. It appears that the supercharger is fed into an airbox and then the airbox outlet faces forward to run it toward the intercooler (or aftercooler) and then to the throttlebody. Very inventive!! Kudos
  15. Man Cyrus, that is sweet. I have been procrastinating slipping my 2JZ into a 240z. I am awaiting a home for it, I just have to get my ducks in a row... Regarding the intercooler, you don't have to make it too huge... 1100 cfm Spearco will support nearly 800 horses here's where I picked mine up.... http://www.roadraceengineering.com/intercoolers-print.htm You also see them on Ebay pretty regularly as well. Keep the updates coming Mike
  16. Well, wouldn't hurt to have the thing cleaned and pressure tested before install, if it is a used piece. That would also give you piece of mind.. Radiator shops don't charge much for that kind of stuff.
  17. maybe Pushing Immense Gross or Poundage In Gear
  18. True, no data logging, but you do not have to send the ECU back to change injectors...just wanted to rebute a misnomer before it gets spread around. I like my SDS, and like the fact that no laptop is required, but datalogging would be a nice caveat top have...
  19. Well, not driven, but ridden in ... has to be ... Scottie's GNZ
  20. Well, just got back from the track. Good news and bad news... God news, engine is solid and I feel confident that it will be fine. I made only one pass at 10 psi, kinda easing it off the line and just going through the gears shifting early at around 6000 RPM's and falling slightly out of the turbo power band. The time was only 14.0 , but the MPH was promising at 105.3 and I gained nearly 25mph in the second 1/8th of the track. Overall, happy with this one... Bad news... grenaded another outer CV housing. I did a mild burn out and blew the shaft at the line. I will now be scrambling to get another CV shaft together (for the VLSD) by Friday so I xcan bring it to Reynolds!! I have the outer 280zx CV housing which has been reinforced with a 1" steel ring pressed on and welded to the housing, I just have to find an 80-87 AMC Eagle 4 cylinder tripod (yikes!!)
  21. Thanks guys. I put another 100 miles on it today, lost a cylinder, found the dead cylinder, traced it down to the injector, replaced the injector and am back on the road again. You are right, there are always little gremlins lingering around the new motors... I am not going for any great times tonight, just a few lower boost passes, but I'll let you know how it goes anyway... If I could wait another 700 miles, I would, but I have been beating on her pretty good today (10psi) without any ill effects. thanks Rick, hopefully I won't need the piggy back, but I'll be happy to reserve the space, just in case
  22. I uploaded a few pictures into the photo album of the "temporary" turbo set up in my 280z. I had mistakenly placed them in the Events section (OOPS ). I finished rebuilding the motor and getting it in the car Saturday. I have driven it 200 miles and am going to the track tonight to beat on it (just a few low boost passes). I have to make sure if something major is going to go wrong, that it will go wrong here and not hundreds of miles from home in Georgia http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&album=1 See you all this weekend!!
  23. Well, you gotta remember it was used in a full race car. It surely used an engine plate and did not have the stock radiator support to deal with. It is placing the turbos that far forward would get all the heat away from them and they would have only cool air up front to breathe. Routing of the intercooler plumbing would be a sinch and the wastegates could just vent to atmosphere from where they are...Speeder (Rick) and I were discussing this header the other night and decided it would be difficult task to mount it to a stock body car. It would be a great conversation piece though. I'd like to have it hanging on my garage wall
