  1. Do you know if the engine has been apart before? If it has, it could be an assembly issue... I am not sure where the stock timing pickup is, but I suppose a pickup bracket could have been bent. If it is picked up from a pulley, then a pulley may have spun (happened on my SDS pickup on the front pulley). Again, I am not sure where the stock pickup is for the coil packs, but it would be a good place to start...
  2. I know Scottie, I have been holding my tongue on that one as well. There always seems to be "interest", but rarely anyone who is willing to step up to the plate. Without going too deep into it, a friend of Scottie's has stated a fabrication business. He is currently making log style manifolds for the import guys. I had asked about possibly making a log style manifold for the L6. He said that he could do either a T3 or T4 style manifold (either one or the other, I would prefer T4 as T3 stock manifolds are readily available), provision for an external wastegate, and 3" stainless downpipe and wastegate dump for ~ $500. I think that this would be a steal!! There would be a couple of caveats though... Everyone would have to run the same external wastegate to ensure fitment of the dump to the downpipe. Everyone would probably also have to run the same style turbine housing (4-bolt or v-band) to ensure fitment and he would want an initial run of 10. Still, for $500, it is a bargain. Scottie, I know we were going to discuss this further before posting anything, but between hurricanes and life in general, it has fallen by the wayside. If I have missed anything, please fill i the blanks. I know everyone wants to see pictures, but there aren't any at this point. Just want to know, is there any serious interest, or should we not follow up?
  3. Engine pic looks suprisingly clean for mileage and car's exterior appearance
  4. It may run a bit hot until the rings get broken in, depending on your piston-wall clearance. I have seen 2 L motors do that. I like the suggestion of going back to the mechanical pump to troubleshoot though. Atleast you could rule the electric pump out. Hmmm...yep, the pump running backwards would do it too...
  5. I used the SI stainless valves from Top End Performance in my P90 turbo stroker w/o any issues. They worked flawlessly and I wasn't too easy on it either 8) Regards
  6. I followed the story and glad to hear you got it back. Hopefully sourcing a short block will be a piece of cake. sometimes things happen for a reason
  7. It is normal. That is what my L28et boosts as well. Enjoy 10 psi, it is like driving a different car. mike
  8. Higher vacuum and occasional backfiring are commonly caused by a vacuum leak. Check the hoses coming off the intake manifold for cracks, etc.
  9. Thanks Ferd, didn't know about the "soap trick", but knew the rest of it. mike
  10. take out the fuel filter and let it drain backward onto a paper towel and see if there is a bunch of crud in the tank. I had an issue w/ my 77 back when it was stock. Enyoy the new Z
  11. Hmm..I started my timing at 20* onmy SDS and ramped up to a total of 32 I believe by 3500 rpm's. Everything else sounds normal. The extra compression may need a little less timing. It seems a good place to start anyway.
  12. From Summit's website... http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=110&Ntk=KeywordSearch&Ntt=l28+studs
  13. Yep Joel, hoping to move up to a larger (Thaggard) unit for the 2JZ
  14. Shameless plug http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=zClassifieds&file=detail&cat=72&de=819
  15. May be the maxima 5 speed. I remember it having an extremely low 1st gear...
  16. I thought that the little dog fell asleep by the tracks and when the train came through and cut off his tail, he woke up turned around to see what happened. The next wheel of the train then cut off his head... Moral of the story... "DON'T LOOSE YOUR HEAD OVER A LITTLE PIECE OF TAIL!!" But I digress... Looks awesome!!
  17. Sounds obvious, but check your plug wires with the firing order. I have seen a few times where 2 wires have been crossed and it will cause those symptoms and a dead cylinder as well.... Regarsd ~mike
  18. Aluminum dissipates heat more quickly than ss and it is significantly lighter as well. Shoulda contacted Hoover at http://www.turbohoses.com He takes of us Z guys
  19. I ran the T-66 on both the 3.1 stroker and on a stock L28. I REALLY liked the turbo. It came on around 3500 RPM's and I had full boost by 3800. It was quite a rush and pulled to 7k. I ran a .58 a/r tangential undivided turbine housing. I did not notice any extra-ordinary lag either (due to the small housing). Really, I have nothing but good things to say about it...
