  1. Well, Scottie, I couldn't hold out any longer.. http://rick.thebowersplace.com/ZGad/nov12004058.jpg I have been pretty closed lipped about my progress thus far. I wanted to post some pics once I had made significant progress into the swap. The photo above was a test fit, but now the engine and tranny are mounted in the car. I took some more pictures today of the mounts, but have to wait for someone to host them for me and will give more detail at that time... Anyway, here are the specs.. 71 240z. Stock 2JZGTE long block, I chose to go w/ the TH400 (no transbrake) due to the indestructability of the tranny, and less driveline shock on the R200 LSD (3.36 gears) w/ Z31 CV's I am running for the time being. With 87 lb injectors, SDS engine management T72 bb turbo, T88h manifold, Greddy Type R wastegate 3" intercooler pipes and a custom bar and plate intercooler (Thanks James), 3" stainless dp and exhaust, SX fuel pump -10an feed to the engine bay, splitting to 2 -8an feeds to the fuel rail... I figure I should see 600rwhp pretty easily and weigh in around 2650 with me in the car. It should be pretty interesting. I get the car back from Scottie's friend's shop (MAZWORX) mid to end of next week with piping completed. We are just waiting on aluminum intercooler pipe and stainless downpipe bends. My goal is to be able to run at the SEZS 5 event March 20th.
  2. I don't believe there is a finite # where the stub axles break. I would think that if there aren't any casting flaws, they should hold up pretty well. That being said, on your launch, if you run a transbrake, or if you use a solid puck clutch, a lot of shock is transferred through the drivetrain and will find the weak link. If you foot brake and load up the drivetrain before launch, then you have a better chance of loading up. I haven't heard of too many stub axles breaking on a drag launch, but moreso auto crossing due to the different angular forces exerted on the stubs. Just my .02 BTW, I was breaking 280zx outer CV housings and not the 240z stubs I was using when I launched the car.
  3. What is your fuel pressure adjusted to? It should be ~36-37 psi...
  4. Wow, excellent idea... I' will consider that one as well.. Hmm...
  5. Yep, sold to Joel... I will be picking up bubble wrap tomorrow and lots of cardboard. Thank you for all the advice. I have an in w/ DHL, so I may use them. Joel, I'll let you know when it will be ready. I think that Friday will be my best bet to get it out to you. Mike
  6. I have a 75 280z dashboard and stock gauges I am about to put on Ebay. It is in perfect condition and is still soft (was replaced in the mid-late 80's after a theft). The center console and heater control panel are perfect as well (also were replaced). Anyway, the reason I haven't put them up for sale yet is that I am trying to figure out the best way to ship these items. I didn't know whether or not to put the dash on a pallet and take it to a shipping company, or put together a large box to ship it in. Anyway, any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike
  7. Serving in LE is just as noble and necessary as having/serving in the military. I say, "follow your gut". just my .02, Mike
  8. Mine is mounted lower than my radiator w/o any issues...
  9. Repair will probably be more than the value of the car. It may never be the same again if the frame is bent..
  10. I would think that the amount of port work you had done would not affect vacuum so dramatically. Double check all of your vacuum lines and make sure all of your injectors are tightened down. Did you replace the injector orings when you had it apart, or didn't you remove the injectors? If all the usual suspects check out, check your valve adjustment again to make sure that none of them are too tight and remaining open. After you have exhausted all possibilities, do a leak down test to make sure your valves are seating properly. I understand that you just had the head rebuilt, but unless you do the work yourself, you never know what may have been overlooked...
  11. Good price, make sure you get the GSL392 model. Not all 255lph pumps are created equal...
  12. You can't go wrong w/ the HKS head gasket. I have had much success with them as have many other members. Just remember to use the copper gasket spray before installation.
  13. Yep, been there, done that... I thought the symptoms sounded that of bad ringlands and the broken skirts, well, a lot of us have gone through what you are experiencing until we wenty the forged piston/standalone route. Enjoy the rebuild. It will make driving the car that much more fun when you have it back together!!
  14. I have a perfect 280z dash. The car it is coming out of was shipped back from Japan 15 years ago (US model) and the dash, center console and heater panel were damaged during shipping (theft). Anyway, the shipping company replaced the dash, center console and heater panel with new ones. The dash is still soft. I was going to put it on Ebay, but wil sell it w/ gauges and heater panel for $500 shipped w/in the continental US. It is still in the car and will be pulled over the X-mas holidays. Just a heads up. I can take a few photos if anyone is interested.
  15. Please remove the photo from your signature. I found it offensive and not appropriate for this board, as there are many who have children present when catching up on HYbridZ posts. We try to keep things a little more PG rated. Thank you in advance Regarding your post, I have done the same mod to the SVO injectors to fit them onto a stock rail as Clifton has.
  16. Well Joel, I wasn't going to mention any Top End stories, but I am glad you did. It is good to warn the new innocent members of possible pitfalls.
  17. 1 mm gasket http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CP&Category_Code=s30_nismo_headgasketL28 Arp bolts http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=110&Ntk=KeywordSearch&Ntt=arp+nissan I purchased my clutch from here... http://www.ptuning.com/html/search-result.cfm?cmbCategory=transm&cmbMakeModel=280zx&cmbBrand= An aluminum flywheel is not required for your performance goals... Although it does not have all the features (datalogging) of the tec of microtech units, SDS is a nice option due to ease of tune and laptop not required. I was very happy with my unit. I believe there is a mamber on this board who can get you a 15% discount if you order through them as they are a distributor... http://www.sdsefi.com fuel pump Walbro GSL392 http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/ext_pump.html
  18. Make sure you get the GSL-392 model and not any of the other Walbro 255lph pumps.
  19. 75-76 gas tank With stock boost, you should be able to run the cheap stuff...
