  1. No, it is on correctly, facing the right way. the flapper opens towards the engine, closes towards the filter. The IAT sensor is on the filter side.
  2. '76 280z, stock. I was having same hesitation problems that other people have posted about. I tried all their solutions, nothing has worked. Then, I noticed the (newly reman'ed) AFM was installed backwards. So I install it the right way and the car runs way worse. Black smoke is coming out the tail pipe. I need to do a fuel pressure check, but what the heck is going on? It barely revs up in neutral, if it has any kind of load on it it bogs down and nearly dies. I also need to check the plugs now, I know. How does the adjustment on the AFM work? It doesn't seem to do anything.
  3. Hey, I think I am having the same problem, did you experience the hesitation when the car was in neutral? I have a '76 that I am working on and it has new: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, vacuum advance, afm, etc. No vacuum leaks. Fuel pump has been replaced but I have not checked fuel pressure. Timing is set correctly, but the hesitation can be lessened by advancing. I also have almost the exact same problem. In neutral it revs up fine. However, in gear (auto) it bogs down at the same rpm in every gear. It hasn't died but comes close, and if you floor it you can pass it up and it revs to 5k rpm just as it should. It's around 1500 rpm in every gear at an advanced timing, if I set the base timing to 7*, or stock specs, the hesitation is worse and at a lower rpm, say like 1000 rpm. I've also heard about slipping harmonic balancers, which I should have remembered to check out while I was at the car, doh!
  4. If you are sure you have the right cable, skip that test and keep going.
  5. Ugh. Reminds me of my friend's dad. Everytime I would try and help my friend change a clutch/pull engine/whatever he would come out and "help" us by telling us that "we can't work on two things at the same time, you'll screw up", "don't over tighten that", and "do you know what you are doing", "don't go so fast, take your time". This is the man that has broken a few bolts in the engine block by over tightening tranny bolts.... mmmrmrmrmrm and i hold my tongue back everytime... arrrr...
  6. Learn EFI instead of going backwards in time, especially if you want to go turbo. If you don't like the OEM EFI, try Megasquirt.
  7. Ugh. I hate criminals. We also have the castle law here, but like someone else already pointed out, if they are already drawn on you, you don't have much of a choice. Plus, if you are packing on your person and they see it, it could be even worse. There should be no mercy for crimes committed with firearms...
  8. That's nothing. When I got my 84, that padding in the hatch was all damp and nasty. I also had sticky crap all over the metal. I threw away the old insulation and put the carpet over it. Car looks good.
  9. You would think so, especially in TX. But I didn't pay much for either of them. I've already made my money back on the first one selling various things off of it that I didn't need. I suppose it's being more unaware of my situation. I used to work for a performance shop and had a nice Syncrowave 250, tons of metal, lifts, air, etc at my disposal. Now I've moved, and everything just got way harder. Yet I still buy these cars and go, "oh, I can weld that up". But I'll get a decent TIG and sandblast the thing and then hopefully I'm off.
  10. This one was driven not too long ago, I believe. In this condition... The VG project is still a go. I've been looking for a new shell, since the one I have, the '72, has been in two too many wrecks and has bondo everywhere. I'll be fixing this one and then moving the engine into it. All I need now is a TIG and a sawz-all. Luckily our new house has the feed and breaker panel in the garage...
  11. It's more or less shell. It's my second shell. My first one, a '72, had been in two decent wrecks, and had a lot of bondo on it. This one doesn't appear to have been in anything major, but it has a lot more rust. Arghh, you just can't win! I think it's a 71. All the paper work I have says so, but there's no title. Man'ed in 8/70, so I dunno. Either way, it's an early one. No compartments behind the seats, it has vertical defroster lines and hatch vents. The frame rails are toast, as are the floor pans. I suppose I could use some of the rails from the '72, but they have some rust on them too. I think just replacing them with new metal, or a front tube chassis, would be best. Problem is, I don't think I can get this one on a rotisserie without it falling in half. The door sills look really good, better than the '72. Also, the rear portion of the looks good. The rear quarters have been replaced, I was told, and look good, but I wonder if they got rid of all the rust. 12. Those were legit straps. I've seen those supra people strap them down like that before.... ugh... But that makes no sense, those airbags are suppose to have a accelerometers on them, and if the car isn't moving...
  13. It's that big and only .40 duty cycle? Oh well get it anyway. Those waveform controls look fun to play with....
  14. If you leave the turbo on the stock manifolds, you will have problems. I'm not running a stock turbo, and I'm not using the stock manifolds, and now there's plenty of room. Also, it all fits behind the front "axle" More at my website: blozup.com VGxxD engines and VGxx engines don't have much in common as far as the heads go. Completely different valvetrain setup.
  15. I managed to get a little more life out of the dyno's wideband by heating the ♥♥♥♥ out of it... but i probably shouldn't suggest that.
  16. You have a wideband, right? Using a base MS tune, it should be pretty rich, and you should be safe, but using a ton of fuel. Also, if you are just using light throttle and little or no boost, you don't have much to worry about. Are you talking about the auto mixture control? You also need to have a wideband for that. I could have sworn there was a different autotune feature as well, but i just looked over my megatune software and cannot find it. I haven't touched MS or even a car in quite a while, though, so sorry. PS - your wife-to-be is from overseas, correct? So is mine. Your 240z has a vg30et in it, so does mine.... this is all quite odd...
  17. I was about to suggest going to the local racetrack if they had one of those, and doing that! I know San Antonio Raceway has one, surely other tracks do. We also have a few quarries too... hmm..
  18. Well... I have all this space in the front.... so it will be much like my last VG30E: In the position I had planned it, the engine is pretty close to the firewall on the driver's side head. There will be no rear crossover pipe. Also, I had to cut the coolant pipes that come out from the back of the lower intake, and from under the lower intake... well, here's a pic: BOTH of those had to be cut though, and someday I will route them together (no heater). That's an old pic, the driver's side head, which is only partly visible (and out of focus) on the bottom of the pic, sits about 1/2" from the firewall. As long as it's better than my civic daily driver, I'll be happy. I'm tired of that thing. I hate FWD with a passion. On the other hand, though, it gets 30mpg.... Thanks a lot! It was kind of relieving to get over this hurdle. The next "custom" part I need to make is the tranny, and then I imagine it goes downhill from there.
  19. Yeah, I'm really happy with where it sits. I have no idea how the distro. is going to be. I can only hope that it will be optimal. From my guesswork, it will be more neutral than before, but only more work and time will tell.
  20. almost any swap is possible. it's all in how much money you have, and how much work you want to put into it. your situation isn't much different. you put it in there and find out where it fits and how you want it. you make mounts for the engine and whatever tranny, making sure all the engine accessories you have will fit, or make some extra accomodations for essential stuff that doesn't fit. route coolant lines, oil, radiator... etc, etc etc. Then get a driveshaft made if you need one, figure out the rear end and half shafts... That's the basic idea. You pretty much make the rest up as you going along. not something for the faint of heart. I'm pretty in to fabrication and car modifications, but my swap was a lot to get into.
  21. Here it is. I guess I'm an official hybridz owner now. Or something. It moved back a little from the ride on the flatbed... need to weld those things in. But think of the possibilities with adjustable engine position. The mounts are pretty much identical. Since I did the passenger side second, think of it as the driver's side v2.0. The box on the entire side of it was a much better idea. Oh, and on the driver's side I changed my mind on it 3 different times after hacking at it with the bandsaw, so it's a little lopsided and in 3 parts. It works for now, though. I have plenty of steel to to it over again if I find the motivation next summer. Anyway, I put together some of the dash and electronics and I think everything will be something really close to the following images. The first pic is more-or-less the driver's eye view of it. The second pic includes the stock S30 fuse box (glass fuses FTW!), that I'll be using for the stock items on the car (exterior lights, dome light, horn, etc). However, while I sat there and contemplated for a while, I decided to ditch the MS Relay Board. It's really redundant in my situation, since I have only a need for the relays. I will have fuses on the switch panel I have. I will just make another DB37 (with smaller gauge wire this time), and a lot of weatherpaks. With a big enough hole I can disconnect it from MS, and pull it out through the firewall and not have to mess with the individual wires until I actually start disassembling the motor. Did you notice my sweet transmission "mount"? I would have stolen a dyno strap for a little bit, but they were all in use at the time. (it was a beautiful '69 Camaro with a 402... making a whopping 340hp and tq... oh noesss).
  22. in for the innovate leg hump. i have an lc-1. my friend has an lc-1. Although he managed to blow up his controller, they sent him another one no questions asked. it's like the cheapest one, too. so awesome.
  23. haha, thanks. I kind of do it in spurts, usually after i work on my car a little bit. If only this rain would go away id go over there now and if my car isn't washed away, i'd work on it.
