  1. Well, I just wanted to finish this post out and tell you that we just went out and bought a new car. The Grand Am was POS and would never be what we needed it to be again so it had to go. Thanks to everyone who offered real advise.
  2. I would try getting rid of the stock POV and see what happens. It might be opening up after you get going. Also MBC's are notorious for spiking your boost. They do work but, you really have to fine tune some of them. What kind of MBC do you have?
  3. Would it be worth strting a thread on the topic? Maybe I'll wait a little bit and see. I'm sure getting 4 or 5 of us would be easy but, 20? By the way to stay on the orginal topic. Topless, Yes it says they will fit any 240thru 280 Z but, not the ZX. Check out the site it's really cool.
  4. Well, I finally got the car back today. Sort of atlest. And I had to pay the full price today which was not under our verbal agreement. Heres the deal now. It won't acclerate faster than a turtle. I not joking here!! My wife is the one that picked the car up and when she called back the guy told her that 4 cylinder cars would not have much pick up. It's 3.0 V-6. Not a fast car or anything like that but, certainly faster than your average 4 cylinder. You can put your foot to the floor and almost nothing happens. It will eventually go. The engine doesn't rev up and slip the trans it just won't rev. This was not a proublem before I took the car into the shop. Now it is! You can put the car in neautral and it won't rev past 4500. It just wants to miss. Almost like a rev limiter. I spoke to the owner of the shops and he said I could take it to a seperate shop and have them look at it. I guess this is what I'll have to do. I have no choice in the matter at the moment. I really feel as if they did something. I know that would be bad business for them but, why wouldn't they. They've lied and been dishonest so far. BLKMGK-I wish you were right but, if they were really trying to work with me they would have kept their word even if verbal and not written. Also I'm sorry but, how many 20,000 mile transmissons do you want to buy? I have a great shop that can hook you up. This was not a bargan basement ordeal.
  5. I hate to have to revisit this thread but, I couldn't sleep last night thinking about this and I wanted to get it off my chest. I still don't have the car back yet............ Heres what has happened since the last update. After talking to the shop many times I finally caved in and said I would pay the full 617.00 for the trans work. I know before they said I could just pay the parts cost but, somehow that was my mistake. Not real sure how I came up with that but, Whatever. I just want the dam car back now. I did talk them into letting me pay the 200.00 of the money out over 2 months time. I had quit one job and not yet at the other so what money I have I'm keeping as best as possible for a real emergency. The shop guy called and asked if I could pay the parts cost ahead of time to get the project going. I said yes and paid him within an hour. I know this is not normal practice but, at this time I felt as if the shop was still working with me on the car. I now know different. After being promised the car everyday for a week I called the owner about the car. He acted as if he did not have all the details and was kind upset that I was so pissed. He then said he would get it fixed and have it for me by the end of Wensday. When I called to check and make sure the car was ready they said it was and I could pick it up that afternoon. Since I was working as well as my wife we asked them to put the car outside the shop and we would pick it up later after they closed. As it turned out we were able to make it there in time to see the guy running the shop. And guess what the car wasn't ready! He said they had the transmisson but, it was not ready. I'm really getting tired of this and feel like I'm being screwed here. What actions if any do I have against this shop if they decide to never have it ready. When is to long in the eyes of the law? Thanks,
  6. If you really want to start with 200HP or so then just take a healthy turbo motor and run it. Maybe turn the boost to 9 or 10 psi and you'll be fine. The race gas would help to fight off any detionation if you were to be close the edge of tunning. Not that you should be carless but, the race gas would be good insurance in a situation like a road race. As you can then go for some simple upgrade like you mentioned in the first post. The NPR is a good OEM intercooler and several of the guys here are running them or are about to. The only thing I don't like about them is that when you really start to crank up the boost they can become restrictive. Also since many people run the big one it blocks most of the radiator which you might be needing in a road race situation. Maybe that's not a concern for your car. If you look around you might find a good Spearco for not much more than the NPR would be off of E-bay. Here is one that I think is a pretty good deal. It's not the best design in the world but, for the money I think it would outflow almost any OEM based intercooler. If you look in the descrption you'll see that they have other ones that would fit a Z engine bay very nicely. And are better priced. the piping is gonna cost you a couple of hundred for everything to be done right no matter what intercooler you go with. Why not spend an extra hundred and get good intercooler? Just my .02 ofcourse. I think you would enjoy a turbo car I know I do.
  7. I couple of things real quick that I would like to add are: 1. Get and aftermarket intercooler if the money is there. 2. In the long run going with a large turbo will be cheaper. 200 hp is very easy to do and you'll soon be wanting 400. Trust me on this one. 3. If you can get 100 octane then you could build a nice combo of high compression and boost. You just need to have the supporting items to make it all last.
  8. Len, I've had good luck with buying a long blade for the Saw's All. If you have Harbor Frieght near you they have the small Chop Saw for 50.00 bucks right now. It will cut angles and all that. I also use a small belt sander that I bought for 30 bucks to clean up the edges and make any adjustment that I messed up on during cutting.
  9. You have to buy a mounting flange that can be welded to your intake pipe. Most of them are 30 to 40 bucks depending on where you buy it.
  10. I've been there with you ZR8ED. Len, save yourself some headachs and embaressment. Go to Napa and get some T-Bolt clamps. Thats the cheapest place I've ever found to get them. Even if you don't get the T-bolt kind then they have some of the regular ones that are 5/8" or so wide and do a much better job than the regular ones that you would buy at a Pepboys or something like that. The 5/8" ones are not much more expensive then the cheap ones and they hold much better.
  11. Heres a pic of mine. I've since reworked the pipe to be straighter into the T-Body
  12. For 6 or so grand you should have no proublem with producing a fast and relieable 240 turbo. What most people do is buy a wrecked ZXT and swap everything over and get it running and then upgrade from there. You can buy wrecked turbos from many sources (I bought one from a the newsapaper on time for 600.0)and the price really varies on the area of the country your in. Ofcourse if your planning on spending that much you could go with a stand alone engine management and some other nice and new parts that will work well and look good. I don't know of any manuel on how to do this but, as I understand it you just swap the entire ECCS over to the 240 for the engine controls. The engine will bolt in and shouldn't be any proublem. If you have the rack and pinion steering its that much easier. It's not that hard but, does take some time to do right. By the way you'll need a 75 fuel take or make a new feed line for the fuel injection.
  13. I had 5 pounds taken out of my factory one and I love it.
  14. Is that a factory gasket? How did you do that?
  15. ratedz, do you think we could get enough ZX owners to get a kit put together. I know they will make some of anything but, they have to have enough orders to begin. I don't remember the totla number but, it's not to many. Something like 20 or so.
  16. Why would they cause a leak? I bought a set of thier rod bolts last summer and they seem like very high quality stuff. Next engine build up will get the works from ARP.
  17. I would think it could be fixed. Take it to a machine shop that deals with Nissan stuff and talk to them. It might be cheaper to just find a new head.
  18. Sounds like a good deal to me. Check out his shop he may actually be a source of cheap parts.
  19. To get 275 or so HP is not very hard. All you need is alittle more fuel and an intercooler. There are many ways to get the extra fuel from very expensive to realativly cheap. A stock T3 should be able to provide enough air with little effort. A good exhaust system will free up some ponies as well.
  20. Looks great so far. Ever since this post I've really been thinking and looking at this. Now that I see your pictures it really makes me want to. Can you give me a guesstimate of the cost of it all.
  21. I thought the mounting flange for the fan had a different shape to it. It's been awhile since I've seen a N/A set-up though.
  22. I had seen alittle bit of information on the TV but, had not gotten any details. Thanks for posting. I wonder what mind set these kids are in that they would allow something like that to happen infront of them. I wonder if they even thought it was wrong or just something cool the teacher did? You know teenage minds are sometimes cloudy on what is right and wrong when they see someone like a teacher doing soemthing like this. It makes me mad that I will have to think about stuff like that happening when my children go to school and grow up.
