  1. If you start looking at the smallish white delivery trucks you'll notice that some have a NPR emeblem on the side of them. I believe there are several different models but, the one turbo guys are after is the NPR. As I understand it the NPR is a good intercooler since it has good surface area and flows well. I would think that a prouperly size aftermarket unit would be better and easier to fit for not to much more money.
  2. Thats sweet. I bet it took awhile to stab that thing.
  3. I agree make sure both your head and block are perfectly flat and use the stock gasket. If you want more clamping force then use some ARP head studs. IF you do a search you'll find my info about the metal headgasket.
  4. The only downside to the Hump connectors are that they can cause turbulance in the airstream. I'm sure one or two would be fine but, I would stay away from more than that.
  5. I've had the Peirburg pump for the last 6 years and it's still going strong. I'm sure you can get them other places but, I bought mine from Cartech.
  6. I agree that would be cool to do and not all that hard I guess. I do reemeber that when I looked at it the gague besle(sp) would be in the way if you placed the gauges in the same place as they are in the factory setup. Ofcourse who says you have to do it the same as Datsun did. Anyway I think a polished aluminum panel would be sweet right there. Carbon fiber anyone???
  7. Hey Tim, I have a T-type intercooler that I would love to get rid of. E-mail me if intrested. It will out flow that Isuzu intercooler any day.
  8. I've really considered doing this but, ofcourse never have. I would think that you would need to take the gagues apart to make them fit right and look like they are factory but, with a cool modern touch. The 3 center gauges shoudn't be to hard but, the speedo and tach look the most difficult. As for the water and gas I would think that a 2" gauge should work I looked at it once along time ago and thought that was the right size. Later this summer I've thought about repacing my center gauges with oil temp, oil pressure, and EGT.
  9. That does sound alittle big but, alteast it wouldn't be to small. What kind of HP#'s are you planning on running? What do you do with the car? IS it an all out drag car? Street car where response would be effected?
  10. Mudge, I agree with everything you said. This is the first time I've had anything done on a car in proubably 5 years. This is what I get for it. We had both decided long ago to never own another slushbox. They have thier use in some vehicles and for some people but, even my 55 year old mom drives a stick. I called and found out how to get in touch with the owner of the shop. I had to leave a message with his desk lady when I called though. She acted like she cared atleast. I'm going to talk to him about the deal and find out why this is going on. Also I think I'l call around and find out what other trans shops in my area charge for what they called a full rebuild.
  11. Tony, thanks for the program. I ahev 2" pipe right now and it looks as if you can get real close to 400hp with it. I think I'll leave it alone for alittle longer. Nah I think I'll upgrade this summer. Brad, I love the look of the Apexi intercoolers. Any details on where and how much?
  12. I agree with those power level goals and such it shouldn't be a big deal. If you have Corky's book then I know there is some formulas in there for calcualting the right size. If you need me to I can look it up.
  13. I can't believe this. Let me start from the beginning and if you would I'd love some advise or let me know if I'm in the wrong here. My wife and I have a 95 Grand Am (auto). It's an ok car that she bought used before we started dating. At about 60,000 the trans. went out. She had bought the car from CarMax and they replaced the trans at no cost to her. We thought great a new transmisson and no out of pocket money this is cool. The car has been a good car ever since and we drive the dog out of it every week on the highway going back and forth to work and to get the kids. When we got to 125,000 the trans went out again. We thought this sucks but, it's got to be fixed. We had just gotten married and had some cash from gifts and stuff so we got it fixed. I really wanted to just dump the car off and get another one with the cash and just cut our looses on the car as we still owe on it. She didn't get that great of a deal on it. Anyway, the car ran great for about a month then the trans stopped working again. So we ofcourse took it back and had them fix it again. No money involved just some more hassel. Now that I have 145,000 on it the trans is out again. I got the car back to the shop by putting it in second gear and limping it up there. There was a difefrent guy there now and he said sorry we have a 12,000 mile warrenty!! I said what I paid 1600.00 for a complete overhaul and now that I'm 8000 highway miles over you wont fix it? He looked at me and said he would look at it. I left the car with them. The next day he said he had talked to the owner and he said they would not fix it under warrenty but, they would be happy to take a look at it and see what could be done to help me out. They just called and said they would need 617.00 more bucks. I told them no way!! I would rather let the car sit in the parking lot and not fix it then give them that much money. the guy was so surprised I did not want to fix it. I guess he thought I would be ok with the fact that after a complete overhaul I would want to pay another 600 bucks. I told them to put it back together and I would pick it up when they were done. Am I wrong here? Is this normal for a transmisson rebuild? I can't imagine that it is? Do I have any recourse? Thanks for listening.
  14. Thats a clean Z engine. I like the manifold.
  15. Zedrick, has a good point here and it's something that I do as well. Some of the others (non-adjustable) might or will leak at idle so they would not be able to be used unless recirclualted back into the intake tract. If it only vents while shifting and is set pretty hard there should be no proublem.
  16. You might try some of the DSM boards I hear they are on there often enough that it shouldn't be a big deal. Or you might try these guys and see if they can help you locate one. Also if you crush the top of the BOV a little you are supposed to be able to run more psi with out them leaking. I personall run a GReedy Type S vented to the atmoshpere and have no proublems with how the car runs. Everytime this subject comes up everyone says to run it back before the turbo but, mines works fine like it is. Plus the sound is kinda cool. Check Scotties page and see if he still has the info about them.
  17. I agree with you. Is it too much when these guys have 10 or so very expensive cars plus all the other junk. I'd be happy with just the cars and a modest place to put them. Those were some nice cars though.
  18. Now that I think about it I don't have one either or ever remember thinking why don't I have one. What has frustrated me many (ok only one or twice) times is that I have a 19mm socket but, no 19mm wrench. The only time I need a 19mm socket is when it won't fit and I don't have a wrench. By the way I think the 9mm goes on the two bolts that hold the TPS on. Or is that even smaller. Like 7mm One more thing Apartments suck... Can't leave anything for even a minuite. I've had two of my cars broken into here in the apartments I'm in now. I really thought that wouldn't be the case here. I live in some nice apartments I thought.
  19. Try these sites. They are all similar and can be made cheaply http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs/mbc.html http://pages.cthome.net/gus/pictures.html http://home.earthlink.net/~turbogus4/boostcontrol.html http://boostvalve.com/ A friend of mine has built the top one and says it works very good.
  20. Speaking of welding is there any online place to find tips or information about welding? I've got a little mig welder and have done some welding thats turned out fine but, I could always use more information.
  21. I've used a product by Rain X that was made to clean off any buildup of road grime. It works great for getting the glass much cleaner than plain glass cleaner. It was basically a Bon-Ami type of cleaner that you used a lot of water with. I'm not sure if they still sell it though. You try to see if you can find some.
  22. I still haven't even started the downpipe. As usual when I plan something things come up and I have to put it off for awhile. It always takes me forever to get anything done. Hopefully By the beginning of summer I have it done and ready to roll. I've had to make some job changes and right now I'm holding on to what I've got till I feel more comfortable with where I am. Please keep in contact with me. Are you doing one for a ZX? Stock turbine housing? Maybe we can do two at once.
  23. They shouldn't have any proublems with pulling the frame and getting it straight. I would tell the guys about your spring setup so they aren't thinking that they have done something wrong when they look at it. where are you in Tx?
  24. Looks great as does all your custom work. I am curious though as to why you don't just start from stratch? You obivously have the means and the talent to do so. Is there just no need?
