If I remember right, when some of the forums were consolidated, the site was changed so only the mods. were able to leave announcements. If you need to leave something, put it in the "non tech" forum. !M!

Clifton, Going off your first post, I thought you were pissed off with my view on the head gasket. Just read your post again. I really have nothing else to add to this discussion other than what I've stated already. Oh, heck no! I thought this was going to get ugly, so I said we could take it off the board if he wanted to. I sure don't want to get a warning or banned from this place. !M!

I jump on HybridZ, click on "view new posts" and when I tried to check a few posts I got this: phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database Hope it's not a potential problem, never seen that message before. It only happened for a few minutes though. !M!

Clifton, We think two different ways, for us to continue with more posts would be pointless to all others here on HybridZ. If you like, you can e-mail me and continue or we can just agree to disagree. !M!

Just heel and toe it. Put your heel on the brake and rev it up with your toe. Then dump the clutch while keeping your foot on the brake, but feathering the accelerator and brake enough so it doesn't die on you. If done correctly, you will stay in one spot and spin the piss out of your rear tires. Makes for a good show !M!

Clifton, chill out. I said: I'm not spreading false information, just giving my opinion. Every one of the turbo Buick guys I hang around with think of the head gasket a a fuse also. We use stock GM head gaskets properly torqued down, even in high hp engines. In all honesty, what would you rather have fail, a head gasket or 4 pistons? Blowing a head gasket rarely happens if you know what you're doing, but sh!t happens. We are also talking about turbo to N/A cars here as far as I know. !M!

Congrats! Wow, 22 years. Now you won't be able to kick those other cars butts later on in the year at the drag strip. Didn't you say that you're the only one with a V-8 around there? Have fun with your retirement, just don't let yourself get bored . !M!

BlueovalZ is possibly using one. He mentions installing one in a post he made in the Drivetrain forum. I remembered seeing that post not to long ago, so I did a search and found not only his post, but 56 other posts as well pertaining to "Torsen Differential". That should get you started in the right direction. !M!

Brad, This is just the way I think, but I think of a head gasket as a fuse. You know the old saying in electronics "fuse it or lose it", well to me the same goes for an engine. If something was to go wrong (KA-BLAMO!), I would rather have a head gasket blow than the engine. You start using copper gaskets and your fuse is pretty much non-existent. !M!

Nice story! I love it around here, nobody knows what the heck a Z or an older ZX is. Even with the L24 in my engine bay right now, it's still fun to roll into the shopping market or the gas station and have somebody go, "WOW, that thing is tricked out!". Just one compliment makes my week . It's so much fun when there are so few... !M!

I'm curious, could you also send me that information please? Just click on "email" at the bottom of my post to see my e-mail address. Thank you. !M!

That from a Neon owner, on a Neon board . Hey Aux, what do you have done to your Neon? !M!

The VLSD is adjustable with different weight oils. For simpler terms with pictures, look at this link: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm !M!

Virginia guys, keep your eyes peeled. Listening to Paul Harvey today, he said that Virginia just took delivery of 7 Camaro's with a Corvette engine swap. He said they go 0-100 in 13 seconds, not too shabby. Should make for a fun cop car. !M!

How do I install a LSD carrier into a open differential?
CruxGNZ replied to CruxGNZ's topic in Drivetrain
Mike, Here's what I have, there is a total of three "washers" but I will call them shims from here on out. Here is the measurements I took. The thicker shim on the passenger side was to the outside, then the thinner shim inboard. Passenger side Shim #1 3 3/8" O.D. 2 3/4" I.D. 3/32" Thickness Shim #2 (thick shim) 3 5/16" O.D. 2 9/16" I.D. 21/64" Thickness Drivers side Only shim 3 5/16" O.D. 2 3/4" I.D. 3/32" Thickness The two shims that are placed against the case (furthest outboard) are somewhat puzzling. You would think that they should be the same I.D. and O.D., but I'm new to rear ends. !M! -
Try searching for it. I know this has been discussed before. Thier was a kit for an Integra or something that could have been used for the Z car, but I'm kind of cloudy on how the disscusion went. Just do a search and see what you can come up with. !M!

That's fine, I was just saying that this has been discussed before for a swap into the Z car. There is quite a bit of information on it that you could read . !M!

How do I install a LSD carrier into a open differential?
CruxGNZ replied to CruxGNZ's topic in Drivetrain
Mike, that's good to hear. All I have to do then is get it to within specs and I will be fine. I will measure the "washer" and post the results when I get home tommorow (8/18 ). I'm in Joliet, IL right now at my buddies place. We went to see the Air and Sea show in Chicago today, man was that show awsome! Almost had 3 planes break the sound barrier. I have proof of this too, it's all on video, you can see the cone forming around the plane, it was too cool. !M! -
If you are talking about the chrome around the tail light panel, then it just comes right off. It's stuck on there like a C channel. I took the chrome strips off very carefully and then repainted the tail light panel. After the paint dried, I just pushed the chrome strips back onto the panel. Some people just pull the strips off and leave it, it looks fine either way in my opinion. Now if you are talking about the chrome on the tail light itself, then maybe just ruff it up some with some fine grit sand paper and paint it black or some of that chrome spray paint that you can get in the hardware store, I think black might look better though. !M!

2004 they will be here! YES!!! Hopefully there will be less coverage of stupid NASCAR while they are here... yeah, right... !M!

If you use the SEARCH function, you will find out quite a bit of information on this rear end. For example, there is 87 posts that you will find if you used the search function with the search words "Supra IRS". Anything is possible with the right tools and a little welding. !M!

I thought I would add to this. Here is just a few tools that I have and use almost everyday. I rated them on a scale from 1-10, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. Some are used for wood working, but can also be used for metal working. Since some of you do home improvment also, I included a few tools that are used for just wood working. Some of these tools are many years old and some are almost brand new. I scored these tools based on how they hold up to how I use them, and I'm not gentle with tools at all. I can't remember the exact model number of each tool, but I can check if anyone is interested. Delta -Drill press- This sucker stands about 5 1/2 feet tall, never had a problem Score 8 -Band saw- Also stands about 5 1/2 feet tall, never had a problem Score 9 DeWALT -Power drills- Very nice, light wieght Score 7 -Biscut cutter (A.K.A. Plate joiner)- Score 8 Bosch -Hand held jig saw- Love this tool, very nice Score 9 Makita -Cordless drills- Take a beating and keep on working Score 9 -Power saws- Great to use, low wieght, straight cuts Score 8 Milwaukee -10" Miter box- Have 3 of these Score 7 -Heavy Duty Hole Hawg- Simply awsome tool Score 10 -Job site radio- Great radio, can drop it from 2 stories and it still works Score 9 Paslode -Cordless roughing nailers- Great tool! Saves a lot of time and hassle Score 9 Side note, do not buy the cordless finishing nailers, they are too fussy to work with. Dou- Fast -Pneumatic finishing nailers- Keep them oiled properly and they work forever Score 10 Stanley Bostitch -Brad nailer- If you are going to get a brad nailer, get this one Score 9 Porter Cable -Tiger Saw- Hands down, the best sawz all I have used Score 10 -Compound miter box- piece of crap, falls apart. Company won't stand behind this tool Score 3 -Model 1400 Chop saw- So far so good with this chop saw Score 8 These are just some of the tools that I could think of off the top of my head. Had an air compressor, but it was just stolen off a job site .

But, it could have been painted. Make sure and check the differential for a VLSD tag. If you can't find a tag, then pop both axles out and see if you can look through the differential. If you can't look through it, then it's the VLSD. If you have an unobstructed view through it, then it's the clutch type LSD. If there is something sort of obstructing your view through the differential, then that would be the cross pin (I think that's the name of it), which is found in a open rear end. !M!

This topic has nothing to do with brakes, wheels, suspension, or chassis. It belongs in the Drivetrain forum. As for your question, I'm doing that right now. You can see what is involved in the Drivetrain forum under the topic How do I install a LSD carrier into a open differential. I don't think Nissan ever made a 3.31 R200. Look here to see what you may have: http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20595&highlight= !M!
