  1. Is the L6 going to be a L26 or are you planning on doing a L28 swap? I have a L28 that needs a rebuild but has a solid block that I'd let go CHEAP
  2. I'm 6'3''~ish and fit in my 280zx with stock seats just fine. I don't remember how much headroom I had, though... and my seats are sitting in my basement right now
  3. Thanks guys. One last question... in the top pic. there is a bundle of wires that goes into the hole just behind the black box(usually covered with a black plate) , but I haven't been able to follow them. Any ideas where these go? Thanks again Ben
  4. I've been thinking about black for a base with dark/light grey pattern and white highlights. Maybe a tiger stripe patern?
  5. So I wussed out on the camo valve covers Instead I did this: They got scratched when I put the engine on the stand, so I might strip them down and do camo afterall
  6. Hi guys, I'm swaping in a carb'd 86 305 into a 1979 280zx. I've refered to the JTR wiring, searched on here and followed the schematics in my Chilton's guide, but I'm still not realy sure what these are? I think they are part of the FI system? The black box and brass cased resistor like things: The black box here: Do I need these or do I just use the wires (ignition) that go into them to wire into the chevy motor? Thanks Ben
  7. Congrats on the car I have to keep telling my self "It'll all be worth it in the end!"
  8. I don't use AC when driving and just wanted to get it out of the way. All the other AC stuff in the engine bay is gone. I didn't mean a coolant hose, just a duct from the blower to the vents when the evaporator is out. Thanks for the help. Ben
  9. I think the vents are a little too far forward, makes it look a little... weird. On a ZX, they are father back and out to the sides more. Thumbs up on the right hand drive, though!
  10. I think you can add some anti-jelly stuff to the oil to prevent coagulation.
  11. Wow, that's pretty cool. Kinda OT, but what about making you own diesel for another DIY fuel. I know of a few guys in the UK who are doing/trying it, but I don't know about the legality of it her in the US.
  12. I tried searching, but everything I've found is about A/C installition. A couple months ago I had my AC discharged and took off all the hoses in the engine bay, condenser (thing in front of the rad.) etc. Today I was taking apart the interior and was looking at the heater and AC under the dash and trying to take the evaporator (?) out. It looks like the heater and blower goes through the AC. I was wondering if you can take it out and still have the heat work? Do you just run a hose where the AC normally is? TIA, Ben
  13. Don't worry about it too much, man. I pulled the L28 in my car last monday and spent all this weekend working on cleaning up the engine bay. The factory wiring isn't all too bad. Most the accessory stuff (headlights, etc.) are in one harness while the FI and engine components are in another. I think I'm getting it all figured out, so don't worry too much. I'm only 17 so if I can do it, I KNOW you can!
  14. An s130 would look OK without a bumper if you could find a way to fill in the VERY LARGE gap under the headlight buckets. I've played arround with the idea for a while, but it's been put on the back burner for now.
  15. try loading them on to photobucket, Takes like 5 min. to open an account if you don't have one and it's free.
  16. So you got the slicks to fit? How'd they feel? Can't wait till my car runs! Too bad the closest 1/4 mile is ~150 miles away Good luck next year!
  17. I can't agree with 280z more, buy a running car! I bought a 305 off of ebay and was ripped off prety good. If you're looking for a race car, go with a 350. I'm doing a 305 because I just want a daily driver with a little kick, but not too much
  18. I'm only 17 but I try to do things the best/easiest way the first time. That beeing said, I do some stupid things too, like when I was cutting off my exhaust. Instead of getting some one to help hold up the pipes I wedged my leg under the muffler and continued cutting. Nothing happened but it would have been easy for something to slip.
  19. Owch is right! I'd need fresh underwear after either of those...
  20. TBH, I've not read too much about the 4L80e, but I've heard it's a good tranny for high horsepower cars. I've come across it when researching the 700r4 a couple times and thought I'd mention it. I assume you want overdrive? If not the older three speed autos can be built very tough.
  21. If you want a built auto tranny, try looking into the 4L80e. You might look on Bowtie Overdirve.
