  1. So the subframe connector/frame rails that many people make out of 2x3 tubing are essentially identical in design, but with even less cross bracing other than stitching them to the floor. What does a guy do to increase the torsional rigidity of the basic parallel 2x3 frame? Tie the roll cage into the 2x3 as best you can? Then tie the cage to the body? Is there a design that is better than the 2x3 that will fit well into a 240z? I apologize if this is a bit too much of a thread jack.
  2. Cary, Could you elaborate more on where the frames are poorly designed? Or what should have been done differently? I am about to start on my 240's chassis and I am trying to absorb all the knowledge I can. Thanks!

  5. I had number 2, got it from Harbor Freight and did a complete car with it in a booth I made from a huge tarp and some steel tubing. It made it through the car (70 dodge challenger) but it was pretty much done after that. Expect all of those blasters to do about a nickel sized spot

  8. If you were talking about replacing the floor board frame rails with full subframe connectors, I think most people use 2x3 tubing for that. (http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=93783&highlight=frame+rails)
  9. not so pull the old "search before you speak" card but, try searching for frame rails you will find a ton of info on the topic. Many before you have been faced with the same problems.
  10. Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to look that up. That is what I had found as well. I assume that means the fuel cell its self could be made of any material as long as it is shielded from the driver compartment with a steel firewall.
  11. Does anyone know where I can find out what the scca requires for fuel tank material? All I could find was that they require all parts of the fuel system to be outside the drivers compartment. Maybe that is it?
  12. Other than being a bit high and large you are happy with the cell? Have you had it in there long? Also, a bit unrelated but how do you like the borlas?
  13. Well I would like to autocross the car as well as take to to some of the local track events. So I would like it to be SCCA legal. I am not sure what the SCCA requirements are, I will have to look into that.   14. First, Im not sure that this is the right forum to post in so mods feel free to place it correctly. I have been looking around at different fuel cells and I see people using steel, aluminum and plastic cells in their cars. My question is, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?   18. I am looking into doing something close to this and I am wondering what needs to be done for safety. What type of cell is best? aluminum, steel, plastic? and do you really need to box them in or just let it hand out back there?
  19. You know a little trick to installing urethane bushings is to put them in the freezer the day before. They seem to shrink up a bit making it worlds easier.
  20. huh... polyurethanes dont melt until something like 400 degrees F. I wonder if there was some red coating on the outside left over from the manufacturing process. Then again, if the headers are cherry color they are in the 1400 degree neighborhood.
  21. buzy, why did you box the whole cell in? for impact protection?
