  4. i spent $2500 to rebuild a 350 and 700R4 (with me doing all the labor for the motor and $700 of that was having someone else rebuild a 700R4) you can easily pick up a LS1 and 4L60E for $2500 and it would cost the same to swap an LS1 in as swapping in a SBC. in additon the SBC wont make as much hp or the same gas milage or be as reliable as an LS1. there is a reason why you see LS1s in just about anything you could possibly think of..

  7. with a shift kit and a stall the car would be VERY strong at the track.. my guess would be that the camshaft is an upper rpm camshaft but still a stock stall = slow off the line
  8. i have a former indiana state police car with 145,000 miles on it, it ran a 13.2 @ 104.5 with only LS6 intake. bottom end of the LS1 pretty much never wears out, only valve train, which if you have the heads off you should think about replacing lifters if you are wanting to go with a big cam on a high mile motor
  9. 97(vette only, 98 first year for Fbody)-99 dont have as good oil return or heads, in 00 they had updated the oil return and better heads (241 casting, but early 00 motors had the 8something heads) 01-04 had better rod bolts and LS6 intakes along with LS6 clutches.
  10. make sure it cranks and even possibly fires... ive heard that if the LS1s get a tap on the crankshaft pulley it destroys the bottom end of the motor. its just a so so deal,
  11. i think a well designed nose that created downforce and didnt let air go under the car would be the best thing you could do, i can see why the huge *** grille in the car would hinder its movement for sure... as for "reliving" the pressure... skulpt some duckts on the inside of the engine compartment that force the air up through those wierd little hinged doors beside the hood, it would also create downforce... just a thought i think the windshield would be another big aero limiter. from what i understand its as important, or more important to manage the air UNDER the car as oppose to the outer..
  12. not to hijack the post but will the T56 fit into a 240Z without modifying the sheet metal? and where does the shifter come out... further forward, same place or farther back than the stock hole..
  13. just buy an LS1 F body motor and trans, it would be cheaper than piecing together something else. because you arent wanting to make HUGE hp any 98-02 motor would be fine for your needs (for higher hp applications where you are trying to spin to 7k 98 and 99 motors dont have the oil return for that and spin bearings) get a cam that makes all its hp before 6500 and you will be fine. a 98 motor and trans could be had for 1500-2500 depending on condition. and with a mild cam you would still be looking at 400+ crank hp with "bolt ons"

  15. LT4s would be difficult to come buy and kinda pricey yes... LT5s.... talking a 20k motor there.. still think you would be MUCH happier with an LSx motor than an LT1 or older vortech..
  16. arent you worried about loosing your head in a possible roll over accident..?? or do you have a full cage. personaly id never ever ever put a 4 or 5 point harness in a car without a roll cage
  17. buy a 350 hp crate motor for GM and and something like a TKO 5 speed. dont knowingly buy a crate motor that you are going to upgrade later on... with motors its not so much the componets, but how well they work together.. a crate 350hp motor will be much nicer, more reliable and get better gas milage and be faster than if you tried to come up with a set up on your own. my .02 i do not see you in any way being happy with buying a motor that you plan on modifying before you even get it..

  19. so since you guys are using the BMW projectos do you guys also get the cool halos? that would look badass..
  20. T5.. you might be able to get an adapter but it wont be anywhere close to being able to handle the LS1s tq and hp
