  1. Sears sells thread pitch guages that will give you # threads per mm. They can be found in the same area as the tap and die sets. If your new nuts are self locking, you should expect them to go on a bit tighter. Just be sure they have the same amount of threads per mm
  2. I`m in Wapakoneta, About 100 miles north just off of I 75.

Yes, but I am using IMSA style fenderwell headers that I had to modify to work. I will have to post some pics of the headers when I get some time.
  4. Tim, Don`t dismiss it until you see the original red X. It may be a perfect reproduction.

I am running my 3.5" pipes over the frame rail, into the rear of the wheelwell and out through the bottom of the front fender. They will run along the rocker panel, about 1.5" below the door which should leave enough room for burn guards without interfering with the door opening and closing. You can get a rough idea by looking at some of the pics in my personal gallery.
  6. With a floor jack, Only lift from the rear differential, and front crossmember. This should give you enough height to put jack stands under the suspension. After the car is down on the stands,be sure to push the car to make sure it is stable on the stands. Once the car is securely on the stands, you should be able to get underneath to inspect the floors and unibody. With the carpet removed, did you notice any rust, or holes in the floors? If not...The frame rails themselves might just need to be replaced. This wouldn`t be all bad, since you would need to remove them to install frame ties anyway.
  7. I work on other peoples cars for extra cash. This has helped to buy nearly all of my tools and parts for my projects.
  8. If you paid with a check, I would stop payment on it until you and the owner of the shop come to some type of agreement.
  9. In the future, I will be much more selective of who I laugh at, and why. No more than 20 mins after I cracked up at this vid clip, I almost did the same thing. While climbing down the ladder after putting some boxes of parts in my garage attic, one of my feet slipped off of a rung. luckily I had a firm grip on the ladder or my head might have bounced off of the floor as well.
  10. I don`t see a problem with occasional posts on other hybrids, as long as whoever is posting is respectfull of what we are doing. Anyone who would dare to come in here and try to start a "My hybrid is BETTER than your hybrid" arguement should be banned immediately. I personally have respect for ALL types of hybrids and the ingenuity and skill that it takes to build them. BTW... My 280 is not the only hybrid I`m working on. I`m also planning an FI V6 5spd swap into my wifes MGB. It won`t be a race car but should be much more reliable, as well as more fun to drive.
  11. Would you say the same for the husband and the judge in Florida who are trying to kill Terri Schiavo? ABSOLUTELY.
  12. I`ve thought for years that we need a licence to breed. WAY too many of these lowlifes get under the radar sceen and really screw kids up. Even the kids that survive have emotional problems for the rest of their lives. I think ANYONE convicted of child moelestation should get a mandatory life sentence.(The shorter, the better IMO) I hope this guy sufferes the same fate as Jeffery Dohmer
  13. I have helped out several of the local "kids" that I feel have some pontential, and are willing to work. I`ve gone to salvage auctions and bought cars for them, and taught them how to work on there own stuff by having them help me around my garage. I`m always sure to explain what, why and how I`m doing things so they get the most benefit from the experience. One strong word of advice... If you find someone willing to take you under their wing and show you the ropes, Always be respectfull of them and their property(tools, fluids, supplies, ect). I recently let a kid help out at the request of his grandfather(my neighbor). This was a BIG mistake. He wanted little to do with the actuall "work" part of the experience, and was more interested in goofing off. BTW... He`s NOT around anymore.
  14. I`m very curious to heaar the story behind the clip. How did the pizza guy get into such a situation as to be blown up.
  15. I found plenty of threads on "reverse drill bits", but only this one... http://www.ytmag.com/farmall/messages/317196.html said where to get them. Apparently... "you can get them at Napa for about 20 bucks"
  16. You will have to call around to your local hardware stores and maybe some welding shops. I need to get some myself. The last/only time I used one, i had to borrow one from my neighbor. I asked where to get them but he bought them at a tool auction. I`ll look online to see what I can find.
  17. You need to use a reverse drill bit to drill it out. many times the gripping in the reverse direction will turn the screw or bolt out without the need for an easy out.
  18. I`m going to bet on a ball joint. I had a Hyundia elantra that did the same thing. it had one bad lower ball joint, and the sway bar bushings were shot.
  19. I think your experience with transporters will be limited to whoever they have driving. I personally have never used a transporter. I just hitch up the trailer and go. If the choice is to either pay someone 700.00 to have it shipped, or spend 700.00 for fuel/ food/hotel to pick it up myself. I would rather pick it up myself and be able to ispect the car personally before I haul it away. Worse case scenario... I don`t buy what I came for, but I find some other bargain on the way home.
  20. Sonny, you would be way ahead of the game if you buy a Z from one of the southern or southwestern states in the U.S and have it shipped to you. just figure how many hours of labor will be involved, not to mention $$$$. It`s almost a No Brainer IMO. I`m sure the guys here will help you scout out a deal on a very solid foundation for your hybrid project.
  21. I have four fire extinguishers in my garage. I know all to well what a fire can do to a garage and a house. About twelve years ago, I was using a torch while working on a thunderbird. I caught part of the fiberglass ac housing on fire. The fire spread very quickly and totslly engulfed the garage in minutes. In the end it destroyed the garage, most of the house, the thunderbird that I was working on,my 81 280zx,and my 65 Comet convertible including all of the restoration parts that i had accumulated over 2 years time. The moral of the story is... You can NEVER have too many fire extinguishers. (I had NONE)
  22. The other day my neighbor made a comment about one of his daughters friends. He said... If she had as many sticking out of her, as she`s had stuck in her, She`d look like a porcupine. BTW... He made this comment to her personally.
  23. Paul, Where are you located? I have a pair of very solid 75 280Z doors. They have a couple minor dents, but could be fixed pretty easy.
  24. Yeah, It was from Bob and Tom. I thought it was funny.
  25. This is a very common problem. we used to do this to my moms car back when we first started driving. back then we weren`t smart enought to know what was going on. We just thought it was cool the way the car would practically fall on its face, before roaring to life. The problem is fuel starvation. The engine is getting way more air than the fuel system is set up to deliver. A double pumper carb should help because you wouldn`t be waiting for the secondaries to open up. Their is one other possible problem. If you have a weak or worn out accelerator pump it could cause a similiar condition that may not be experienced under normal conditions. With the stock or smaller air cleaner, you engine will carry more manifold vacume which will help to draw fuel through the accelerator circuit of the carb under wide open throttle. With the larger air cleaner, the accelerator pump will have to supply all of the fuel necessary under heavy acceleration.
