  1. This has been a bad year for Northeastern Indiana`s automotive icon`s. Greg Moser, founder of Moser Engineering died earlier this year in a plane crash. Both of these men will be missed.
  2. I bought my son one of those BIG hotwheels tables with the drawers underneath and, a bunch of track and activities that goes with it. Sooo... My present was to stay up ALL night(5.5 hours) putting it together. I guess it wouldn`t have been so bad if he had gone to bed before midnight, but he was too exited to sleep.
  3. I once used diesel fuel in an engine that smoked badly. The truck had been owned and driven by an elderly man that never drove more than 30mph, and very seldom left town. Needless to say the engine was full of sludge. The truck itself looked good and I planned to change the engine anyway. So I drained the oil and filled the crankcase with diesel, then drove it around town for about 20 mins. After I changed the oil, the engine never smoked again. I assume the rings had frozen and were allowing excessive blowby that was causing the engine to smoke. If I hadn`t planned to change the engine, I NEVER would have tried this. I just figured if it didn`t work, I was only out the cost of an oil change and a gallon of diesel. BTW... The guy that bought the truck from me is still driving it 3 yrs later with no smoke or trouble.
  4. I heard a similiar story 18yrs ago from a fellow student in High school auto shop. He told us that his dad ALWAYS runs the engine with the drain plug out,"to get all the OLD oil out" When the rest of the class started laughing at him, he got real mad and defensive. Even our teacher couldn`t convince him that this wasn`t a good thing to do. He actually had the nerve to tell the instructor that his dad had been working on car longer than him (the instructor)so he trusted his opinion more.
  5. Corzette, Why would you want a "PET ROOSTER" plumbed in???

    Garage size

If I get a digital camera for Christmas, I`ll post some pics of MY shop.

    Garage size

My garage is 30x60 and I wish it was bigger.I don`t have near enough wall space for shelves, workbench, compessor, mill, surface grinder, toolboxes and fridge. I really want to get a lathe but I don`t have room along any wall to put one. I might have to get a BIG storage barn to put shelves and misc parts in. I know it sounds bad to be hurting for space with a garage this size, but you will have a tendancy to fill whatever amount of space you have. Wall space is the key. you have to have space for all of the larg imobile stuff, and still be able to work. Don`t go any narrower than 30' wide, and your ceiling should be at least 12'6". This will give you headroom for a lift someday, and give enough room for along the side walls for tools and workbench and allow you to work on two cars at a time with the doors open on each. I would NEVER build a shop smaller than 30' wide X 40' deep. Also, get 8' tall doors. you`ll kick yourself in the a$$ if you don`t. This will allow you to put your car in the garage while it`s still on the trailer. You would be surprised how handy that is.
  8. I don`t agree with the "no picture, no post" suggestion. I paersonally have sold quite a few things here with no pictures. As far as I know, all of my buyers have been perfectly satisfied. IF I had a digital camera I would be more than happy to post pics, but all of the time and trouble to take and develope pics, as well as try9ing toscan and post/host them is much more trouble than it`s worth. Especially when/if the posted item doesn`t sell. I try to post my items at a low/fair enough price to make it worth the gamble. BTW I still have an attic full of parts to sell IF anyone is interested.
  9. I`ve got a good astro radiator for manual trans. pm me if intersted.
  10. Thanks again guys, I was a little concerned in the begining because she wasn`t eating much. Even though the Doc`s said she was fine,I was still a little worried. I`m sure all the Dads here know how I feel. She is eating fine now and has no problems that we can see.
  11. I am definately in the same boat and possibly worse. My brother had trouble on his way back from S,Carolina so I had to drive 300mi each way to go get them. To top it off, They had too many people with them to ride in my truck, so I had to take a mini van to them on my tow dolly, and pull their explorer all them way back.(transmission) I had to go 80 mi last night to pick up my Mom from the the side of the highway,(bad fuel pump) and less than a month ago I had to pick up my sister in law from the same area.(overheating) I don`t mind doing this stuff(most of the time) but I`ve been sick and trying to stay out of the weather. Not to mention we have a new baby at home that I`ve only held twice. Not because I`ve been working on their cars, but I do need to get over this cold because I don`t want her to catch it. I don`t usually charge family labor unless it is a major job that take alot of time, and then I only charge about 1/4 of what they might pay at a shop somewhere. This is usually enough to cover food, heat, electric, gas for the time that I spend on their cars. I had a visit the other day from the State Dept, of Taxation . They were following up on a complaint that I might be running a business without a vendors licence. I told them that I only work on stuff for family, and that every car here was either mine or a family members. They looked a bit sceptical, but I do have 9 vehicles of my own, not to mention the three from family that are here. BTW... If the belt breaks on that hyundai, it WILL trash the head and pistons. The exhaust valves have NO extra clearance and will break off. I also have alot of maintanance that needs to be done to my own daily drivers. I hope to get this all done before the real bad weather hits.
  12. My Grandma drove a red Monza Spyder with a 262 sbc in it. I`m pretty sure it was even a four speed car. My uncle totalled it about two yrs before I started driving, so I`m not real sure how quick it was.
  13. The three piece would be great if you plan to make numerous cam/cam degree adjustments, but may be of little use depending on what your plans for the engine are. If you know what rpm ranges and hp expectations you have, most cam manufacturers will give you a recomended cam timing spec. In any case I suggest using some type of cast aluminum cover when using a roller cam and thrust button. Here are two of them on ebay for less than 40.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2446000725&category=33625 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2447223066&category=33625 And here`s a gear drive set for a big block for 90.00 that you may be interested in. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2446991306&category=33625
  14. We found out just after we left alabama last spring. That`s two of our kids that were conceived in Oxford,Alabama. Must be something in the water. Arron, I know how much trouble you and your wife have had in your attemps to have children, and I truely wish you the best of luck. It`s sad to think of how many really good couples there are that have trouble getting pregnant. Especially when so many teenagers and singles that don`t want/need kids seem to get pregnant everytime they take off their pants.
  15. Thanks Guys. You know, Originally I was hoping not to have any girls. I really didn`t want to go through the whole"protective Dad" thing. Once we had the first, I thought well... if she`s real tall I won`t have to worry as much since most guys have aprehensions about dating girls that are taller than them. I guess now I`ll have to rely on their big brother(3-4yrs older) to keep the wolves at bay.
  16. Our latest edition has arrived. Her name is Jessica Marie, She is 7lbs 12oz. and 19.25" long. She`s kind of a RUNT compared to our other two. Thomas who was 21.25 long @ 9lb 1oz, and Hannah who was 21.75 @ 9lbs I think she will get her height from her Mom who is only 5'2". I guess we can`t all be tall.
  17. Most of them seem very apropriate IMO. Much better than buying ANYTHING that might supply MJ with one more cent of royalty cas to use for his defense/payoff fund.
  18. If the parts truely are defective,(which i have no doubt they are) MSA should take them back AND pay for the shipping.
  19. My rear bumper needed alot of work with a file to fit properly, and will still need some glass work before paint. I don`t know about the side skirts. I never tried them since I`m running side pipes. The front will take a little work to look nice, but not near as much as the rear,
  20. I know I shouldn`t lift MOST of the things that I do. Believe me, I have had back pain almost every day for the last 20 yrs. I just get in a hurry and have alot to get done so I don`t take the time to use the proper equipement sometimes.
  21. I know a a lady that was so cheap that when she took her three daughters shopping for school clothes, she would let them ring up everything at the register and then offer them 30% less than the total. It always ended with a discussion with the store manager and AT LEAST a 20% discount.
  22. There is a difference between lowballing and just wanting something for free. My post in the buy/sell forum may have prompted this type of offer since I`m only asking enough to cover shipping, packing and my time.

    Oval exhaust piping

I`ve never heard of any benefits of oval mandrel bent pipe over round mandrel bent exhaust pipe. The only true benefit that I can see is for ground clearance.
  24. The possibility of the guides being bad enough to cause such a serious crankcase pressure problem is slim to none. I`m going to third the idea of a ring land or possibly a cracked ring. You are loosing compression to the crankcase which is why the problem worsens when the engine is under load or boost.
