  1. Looks like the queers have it so far!
  2. My friend had one with that body style, and he got the GTi-R pulsar DET swap with a fwd us-spec SE-R tranny. Top mount intercooler (now belongs to me), factory ITB's, no exhaust after the turbo, and an ACT unsprung 6-puck clutch. Cheesy prime chrome wheels with some drag radials got him a 12.98 in the quarter mile. I'm convinced that some attention to ducting, or even a front mount along with some suspension mods would have made for a faster car, but what are you going to do, right?
  3. I suspect some of the problem might be because of the Carbs too. I've long suspected that my un-filtered su's are not sucking in all the fuel that is getting to them, because as soon as you open the hood, you get hit by the fume fist-stinging eyes and all. I read an article in Grass Roots Motorsports detailing their conversion of a Volvo 122 from dual Su's to megasquirt fuel injection, and they described how their fume problem magically went away after that too. This is in keeping with the Sr20det story mentioned above, as well. It can't be the only thing, but it's something to think about. Anybody have any "I used no filters/open element filters, and when I switched to a plenum my fumes went away" stories?
  4. I like the patch idea, but if you don't have the materials you'll probably be looking at at least $30 anyway, so unless you want to try and learn a new skill, I'd just get the ebay pan.
  5. I like mk III's better, sorry everybody! Tim, that pirhana is pretty cool-nice porsche in front of it too!
  6. That's about how they look alright...Mine are pretty much the same thing, I just bought them locally. Also they are 4X114.3 to 4X114.3, instead of the Honda 4X100. My wheels are double drilled for 4 AND 5X114.3, so they could theoretically survive a 5 lug conversion. That's half the reason I got them in the first place. Here's me:
  7. Yeah, that's definitely a FORD Capri though, not a Mercury Capri. I'm pretty sure most of them had the early ranger 2.8 engine in them. We had a nice imported black one here around town, it's actually the only one I've seen in person. Imported because they were far more popular (and continue to be, evidently) in Europe. Not an issue of Retro Cars goes by that doesn't have at least one in the background somewhere at some rally or other. They turn up for sale every once in awhile if you look hard enough.
  8. High five for being different, but it feels a little hack-job to me. I'm not much of a fan of the high-wing mopars anyway, something about the big-bird beak seems baind-aide-ey to me...But this guy is right up there with Bubba-drift for representing the dirty south for all the drift community to see, crimson neck blazing in the sun!
  9. "You like that?! You like them spinnin tires?!" -Joe Dirt Not sure how I feel about this one yet...
  10. I was reading Wangan Midnight, and thinking I should paint the car white with black outlines...maybe some gray shading around the contours. Really go for that authentic manga look... I did my block in white to accentuate the leaks that I knew would be forthcoming. White block and head (new head is left cast finish, I was too disappointed with my last headgasket failure to put any more work into prettifying the p-79) with a black/white letter turbo valve cover (now a bare aluminum one, since I felt like a cheeseball for not having my turbo on yet...) and black wrinkle finish manifold...Of course, that was when the car was painted like a veritech fighter and not all flat black...I'm thinking about doing a camo valve cover now to match the zzzap! hood, what do you think?
  11. Take the complete R200 off (mustache bar and all), and replace the R180 as a unit. I did it in a driveway on jack stands in the rain, and it would be a simpler job than swapping the guts (which may not even fit in the old case). That's not to say it is an easy job (that thing weighs a TON when you are on your back in the rain) so be sure and have a lovely assistant to help you. I put the 5-speed/R200 from a 1978 280z onto my automatic/R180 77 280z driveshaft, axles, and mustache bar. The hubs stayed the same, and I suspect the axle could have as well.
  12. Most of those online tire suppliers have that function, we use them all the time at work.
  13. Auto parts stores aren't going to carry what are essentially "crash parts" ie parts that only break when YOU break them, not through general wear and tear. These are the types of things we like to charge outrageous sums of money for here at the dealership, because you can't get them anywhere else. If $30 isn't enough for you, head on down to a VW dealer and see what they're asking for one. If you don't think you can fix it, I'd recommend replacing it. Why don't you try calling a salvage yard?
  14. If those girls are THAT gullible now, imagine what kinds of videos we'll be seeing of them in a few years on some other websites...
  15. That's pretty much what I was getting at, too. As a free forum, I was pretty sure that there was no revenue being made to support much beyond the general maintenance of this website. So the real question now becomes: Who wants to be the Hybridz treasurer, and who wants to be the tax collector? There's no cache of cash (how clever was THAT?! Anybody? sigh...) as of now, so it would be up to one of us to go marry an aging billionaire, pretend to like "keeping him happy" until he kicked the bucket, and then decide how to distribute these funds to racing teams all over the world. Guess we'll have to draw straws to see who gets to "take one for the team..."
  16. Birds of a feather I guess...looks like you're the only poster here with a significant number of posts on this thread that hasn't been banned...dun dun DUNNNNN!!!!!(that's supposed to be dramatic soap opera sound effects...)
  17. So far, a lot of the usual suspects have been chiming it, but I think maybe we should hear an official opinion from the administration on what it would take for this to work. How much would it cost hybridz to sponsor cars? Would hybridz buy the cars/parts/services, and entrust the build to members, or take over someone's existing build, or just issue "x" amount of dollars one time like a college grant? Would the sponsorship dollars be performance based (winning cars at whatever event get a bonus?) Aside from the cost of initial build up, assuming a from-scratch approach, there would be the annual/seasonal costs of maintenance, entry fees for events, and so forth. How would those costs trickle down to the members? Surely it would entail some kind of dues from the members. How badly does Hybridz.org want to sponsor cars? DOES hybridz.org want to sponsor cars, or is everybody just flapping their gums for nothing?
  18. www.kodiakracingwheels.com -wheels made to order, at made to order prices.
  19. I suppose since it's all happening in dreamland anyway, it doesn't matter, but if you really were trying to sell that car, you would have to factor in the target audience, as well as the realities of production costs/benefits. I think reviving Datsun is a good idea, and I don't mind seeing a 4-cylinder version of the z come back, especially if that means the whole chassis would be smaller than the 350z. Every other car in your focus group there is 4 cylinder powered, mostly because of costs. I wish there were a hard top version available for the solstice and sky right out of the box, but unfortunately it's only available in the aftermarket. Those would make for some sexy coupes in my opinion. I'd like to see affordable rwd cars make a comeback as much as the next guy...
  20. You're absolutely right, I totally forgot to factor in that extra inch for the beads...When I measured mine though, I measured from the outisde of the rim to the strut housing, and I still had plenty of space in there. By the way Brad, did you get that thing I sent ya?
  21. The problem with targeting that batch of cars is that they are all roadsters...is your concept supposed to be a hardtop convertible? I don't think you could do it for that price. I'm not familiar with that particular RB engine, is it currently in production? I suggested a QR25de because it was currently in the lineup, and is a solid motor, but if this RB24 is legit, that's probably the way to go.
  22. You thinking that that gasket material was in there before you pulled it? I don't think it would cause the sound you were getting, that was much more metallic in nature. How do your rockers look? (clearly your engine is not stock, by the way, I remember we were all discussing your cam at one point...)
  23. You got me stumped...from the thumbnail I was thinking wheelchair lift, but once I opened it up, it definitely looks like it was designed to be dropped...
