  1. Phil, those tighty whitey's are hot! I ALMOST severed my finger with a razor blade scraping a gasket on a valve cover once...
  2. Must....resist...urge....to.....post....about....my.....1977 with white interior! aaaggghhh, I couldn't help it, the lure of the thread jack was too much! Quick, think of something to make it seem like I'm still on the right subject....Uh, I would like to see the Florida Hybridz car end up with white interior (dang, I blew it...) I mean, it would be really helpful if these cars were more accessible to everyone, so the more locations, the better as far as I'm concerned. I think whatever happens, there shouldn't be ONE almighty team car, but several to represent the regional diversity.
  3. I assume this is in reference to the flares? Those guys are running wheels that are super wide, 9 inches and wider usually (the ones that actually NEED the flares anyway). The wheels in the group buy fit as well as any aftermarket wheel is going to fit. If the price is right, that is a great looking wheel for I think a great price. Read that whole thread, look at the pictures, and if you like that look, I say just get those and call it a day. For the record, I just measured my spacers, they are 1.5", which on the back means that I have a corrected backspacing of 4" (from the original 5.5" with no spacer that didn't fit). There is at least .5" to spare, even with my 255/40-17 tires that stick out at least 3/4" past the rim of the wheel, so I would say that to consider 4.5" inches the maximum backspacing is a safe bet.
  4. Intake hose between MAF and throttle body come loose? Or is SDS a MAP based system?
  5. Stock brakes don't look THAT bad behind 17's....
  6. I'm sure auxiliary's guy is on the level. That particular wheel has 4" of backspace, so it's really starting to look like that's really close to the right number. You should be able to play with your offset vs wheel width vs backspacing a little better now. I'd try to keep it around 4". All you have to do is convert your offset to inches, take half of your wheel width (0 offset), and either add or subtract your offset in inches from that, and it will tell you the backspacing. So long as it's around 4" maximum, it seems that should work (at least in the rear where you don't have to worry about turning).
  7. I love the mugen fan clutch wheels... I've been trying to convince my local honda guy to put them on his 00 Si in 15" for months now, but he hates them...
  8. I don't know if 9" wide would work or not, my front wheels are 7". I know some people have used some seriously wide wheels on this site, but I can only tell you from experience what I've seen will work or not...You have to keep in mind how far you can turn the wheels and will they rub either on the inner fender, or on the outer edge. I have to guess there is a point either way...
  9. I don't see why that wouldn't work, that should give you roughly 4 3/8" back spacing...I think what we need to do is figure out exactly what backspacing will work before you drop the cash on some wheels. I'll measure my adapters when I get home, and work it out. I've got 17X8 wheels in the back, and they don't rub at all the way they are set up now. I think they could stand to be a little closer in, to be honest.. these wheels have 5.5" of backspacing, minus about 1.25-1.5" for the spacer, depending on how big it is (I don't remember). That puts it at under 4.5" either way, just exactly how much is the question...
  10. A 7 inch wide wheel with 0 offset would leave you with 3.5 inches of backspacing (0 offset puts your mounting flange right at the center of the wheel 7/2=3.5). According to my calculations, you SHOULD be able to use as much as +27mm offset on a 7" wide wheel to keep a 4.5" backspace. That ASSUMES that 4.5" of backspace is the ideal amount...
  11. That thread says those aren't available in 17" with the correct offset...
  12. that's the same guy selling the triple carb turbo plenum. I noticed it when that thread came up the other day. pretty cool stuff.
  13. ..................tumbleweed rolling by.............sound of crickets chirping................ And so it does. Move along everybody, nothing to see here...*whistles to self and casually walks away*
  14. That looks like a much higher than +3 offset...googled it and here you go:
  15. Even for old news, that's still an impressive blowout...Is there some way to see when a thread was started besides just knowing you've seen it somewhere before? They don't seem to have a posted date, which might be a cool feature to add if it isn't a whole lot of work. That way new people searching the forums could see how old the topics they are finding are.
  16. What do you need this car to do? The '69-'70 Boss gets my vote, but it's not like any of these cars you have chosen are interchangeable. In terms of size, price, or sophistication, all these cars are miles apart. Z32 ideally would need the least resto, and the Falcon and Mustang would put you in a whole other circle of friends for the most part (although I'd still think either car were cool, and not be embarrassed to ride out with one). You could always get a 64 1/2 mustang and swap in an L28et F&F3 style, then you could still hold your head high around here, right?
  17. Surprisingly enough, there aren't too many cars anymore that come factory with hose clamped on fuel INJECTION line, most are molded into banjo fittings and so forth and are available only through the dealer. They do carry carburated (4-6psi rated) fuel line in various sizes, and I know for a fact that when I worked there, we had 5/16" and 3/8" injection line, as well as 5/16" transmission cooler hose by the foot. The problem is its like $1 more expensive just to go buy braided #6 line across the street at the speed shop. I'm not sure why I'm defending them, I guess all this stuff goes to show that people who ARE competent at their job don't like to get pidgeonholed with the rest of the mouth breathers who aren't...
  18. Yeah, that's a really great idea. I vote sticky as well. You ought to measure it with the hood hinges in place though if you are looking for intercooler fitment. I couldn't tell if they were there in the one you used in front of the core support.
  19. I think you should email this guy and ask him what planet he lives on that can re-dip these wheels in polished aluminum...that would have to be machined out, and you'd have to heat and bend that "dent" as he puts it back into place. These wheels would be a balancing PROBLEM to say the least for whoever is gullible enough to buy them. Those have to be close to +40 offset too, not -3 like he claims...
  20. there is NO WAY those scion wheels have -3 offset...somebody must have lied to that guy... plus, look at all that curb damage! Offset refers to the distance from the centerline of the wheel the mounting flange sits in mm. +is towards the face of the wheel, - is towards the back. Usually FWD cars have high + offset. Backspacing and offset are not the same thing. Backspacing is going to be the distance from that point to the back of the wheel. I'd say if the wheels don't look AT LEAST as deep as the ones I posted previously, they probably won't fit without adapters. Just checking offsets probably isnt good enough, since a wheel with too much backspacing with a zero offset would still rub, so it's important to check that too. For instance, a hypothetical wheel that is 13" wide with 0 offset would still have 6.5 inches of backspacing, which probably wouldn't fit. I've heard 4.5" being kicked around as the ideal maximum backspacing, but I haven't done any measurements to check it. If you want to find some used wheels, look for stuff that fits older RWD nissans(510, s130, z31, s12) or toyotas like the celica, carolla, and celica supra. I know for a fact the celica supra used a LOWER offset than the z (meaning the wheels would stick out further from the fender), because my friend tried to use one of my western turbine 14" wheels (fit the z with no spacer) on his 83 and it wouldn't even go on without hitting the strut.
  21. Bj, I'm sorry to hear about your lemon, it sounds like your problem stems more with the general build quality of the truck than any actual problems you've had with the quality of the service you recieved from the parts department. The guy at the dealership level can hardly be held responsible for the quality of what GM gives him/her to sell, only the amount of good service he/she gives you during your purchase. I work for saturn, but I don't believe in the product. I worked for Acura in parts before that, and didn't believe in their product either (we were replacing between 3-11 transmissions PER WEEK under warranty). My wife has a saturn, and I hate it. It has less miles than my 77 280z and I would rather drive that even with no A/c, no power steering, and no windshield wipers. I personally drive an 02 nissan Altima and my 77, and there aren't many american cars that I would enjoy owning. I would love to support an american product if they had one I could count on. I'm not defending GM as a brand, just pointing out that there is a general LACK of qualified parts countermen in EVERY company, foreign or domestic or aftermarket. As for bad service advisors: I'm on my third mass airflow meter in my Altima, it's been recalled for the primary cat being designed too close to the exhaust ports (which could cause chunks of catalyst to burn out and bounce around the engine), the driver's airbag sensor twice, the headlight design, and the in tank fuel pump possibly icing up if I lived someplace cold. The first time I took my car in to Nissan for the MAF, the service advisor tried to tell me I had tampered with the part and must have caused the malfunction. I asked to work with a different advisor from then on out, and never had any other problems like that, but even at Nissan, you can't always get the treatment you want. A good friend of mine took his still under warranty G35 in to Infinity for a mysterious smoking problem, and they tried to tell him HE'D have to come out of pocket to REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE! He fought it, and they eventually "goodwilled" him a new engine, but he didn't want to have something like that happen out of warranty, and he traded it for an Acura RSX type-S (don't ask me, I just work here...I made that face too). Mario-why would you wast your time and the counterperson's by telling them the wrong information, and then feel like you had them stumped by pulling the big reveal after they thought they knew what you wanted? I've had that happen a few times over the years (I need an upper hose for an 82 350 camaro-I go pull the hose- HA! the engine is in a 72 Nova! *sigh* what a jerk-off...), I never understood it then, and I still don't...
  22. I know a guy here in tampa that has those same wheels on a 260z, also flat black...go figure.
  23. http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20Information/22r_tech_notes.htm How cool would you be with one of those? Talk about a swap with a WTF?! value that's off the charts! nobody even knows those engines came turbo...
