2-door 510 for me, but I'll take mine in black with an SR20det and some Advan Oni wheels if you don't mind...As far as old school toyotas go, I'd prefer an early Cressida with a 7m-gte and some nice SSR reverse mesh wheels.

Yeah, the whole show is just one race. The reason they don't set it up like a bracket race is that they are trying to simulate a street race situation. They just do it on the track for safety purposes. I read an article with the host, and he said that he's been trying to get somebody to buy a reality show idea from him for years, and this is the first one that's sold. He admitted he doesn't know the first thing about cars in the article. If you think about it, it's genius from a production standpoint: the whole purpose behind reality tv is that it's CHEAP to produce (no sets, no high dollar professional actors, people think nothing of cheap web cam style shots that give the illusion of being candid so you don't even need much equipment relative to a normal tv show) and this show may be the ultimate in cheap gameshows, since the contestants even supply their own prizes. The network really can't lose.

What is the marking on the block then?

Is the head off? Turbo blocks have dished pistons, N/A blocks have flat tops assuming they are 81-83 models. Plus the turbo engines should have, you know, a turbo hanging off the exhaust manifold. In the absence of that, I'd look at the oil pan and see if it had the turbo drain back line going into it.

I like Forza a lot, its a great racing sim. But the graphics editor they advertised as being the most powerful paintjob simulator available, and its laughable next to TX3's. You MIGHT be able to get that graphic, but if I remember correctly, it doesn't give you any alphabet to write out Datsun, especially not in that font. You'd have to use the straight line graphic a bunch of times to make your own letters, I imagine it would be pretty tedious, and wouldn't give you any better idea of the final product than this model kit does. Plus I don't think I'd have any luck simulating my paint scheme... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=112218

Actaully, almost any four cylinder in Nissan's current lineup produces as much power as the L24 used to, and the QR25de would be a great motor in RWD form for either a 510 restyle or a 240z update. 180hp, 175ft/lbs, It's a very smooth and peppy engine, even in my 02 Altima which is a very heavy sedan. I wouldn't be so fast to discount an engine just based on cylinder count.

I really don't think much of those drawings. I prefer the 350z design to that for the reason that it ISN'T just a throwback design, it's a progression of everything that has come before it. Nissan retained the design cues that make it resemble a z, without just taking the chrome bumpers off of a 240z and using HID's instead of sealed beam headlights. Based on the lineage of the car, the 350z SHOULD look like a next generation 300zx, because that's what it is. In the context of this datsun thread, I think there is a place in the lineup for something like freshalloy's neo 510, the cube could work there, and it would be great to get even something like a qr25de powered car that would fill the role of the z, so long as it's rear wheel drive. Will they do it? I'd say that if they didn't jump right in after toyota did it, they probably won't.

Ok so everybody that's been following along with the crazy paint job threads a few of us have been doing, I've got some food for thought. I was looking at the BMW website, and came across a section they have called "art cars." These were cars that were painted by well known pop artists, and appear mostly to be race and concept vehicles. Here is the link (just click on the "launch microsite" link), I'm particularly fond of the graph paper three series... http://www.bmwusa.com/BMW2003/Templates/MicroSiteHandlerNew4.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2funiquelybmw%2fcultureofideas&NRNODEGUID=%7b7E347122-EBEF-40C8-97D7-98610BCC1C21%7d&NRCACHEHINT=Guest&bhcp=1

Olderthanme's early 260 worklog(run 56k!!!)
veritech-z replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Just imagine how much power you'd get from painting it camo. I must have picked up at least 50hp just from the small amount I added...Don't worry about pulling the engine, it's not that bad. There are only 6 bolts holding it in (two on each mount including the tranny). I find it's easier to pull it with the tranny on, and seperate them outside the car, plus it's easier to line the tranny up when you aren't on your back cursing and trying to bench press it into place...I've had the motor out of my car at least twice in case you're wondering about my qualifications. -
I'm pretty sure it's still cheaper than a real version of Photoshop though. I just put that out there because it was a sort of cult game that made it to the PS2 from the Sega Dreamcast, and not many people know about it. It's a fun series where you drive around on the streets and flash your brights at different car clubs to make them race you, and once you beat them, the leader will come out, and it's all dramatic. I'm pretty sure it's based on Wangan Midnight, because the boss has always been the devil Z from that series. Even has a black 993 porsche that comes out as one of the final bosses. The PS2 has such a huge market penetration, I just figured that for $15, even if you don't like the game, it would be a fun tool for anybody who has the system and enjoys a lot of different kind of cars (even has a C-4 vette, a Pantera, a Boss 302, and a Knight Rider firebird).

How did I miss that?

That was the first video game to get attacked as being too violent. You had to run over some gremlins and they would turn into crosses...

You ought to put that mystery part back in your oil pan where it belongs then, so it can knock around some more. just kiddin, as I know you were...Glad to see I was the winner in "guess why my engine sounds crazy".... -
What's up man?! your losin' 'em! You have to strike while the iron is hot with some fresh pics, or everybody is going to lose interest! You'll end up like that guy that was putting together the mystery Formula D 240z that had like three pages of people asking to see pics, and then he never did, and his car never appeard on Formula D, and now nobody cares...

I didn't put a sub there, I put a fuel cell there, so my car sounds a lot like exhaust and road noise...smells a lot like exhaust and road noise too now that you mention it... Are you talking about cutting out the floor, or just putting in an enclosure? Don't speakers need a certain amount of volume to sound right? I suppose you'd have to calculate how much you need versus how much you have available and go from there.

Anyone know who makes these springs?
veritech-z replied to deja's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
That may be your problem right there. I know the rear suspension on the ZX doesn't look anything like the Z from checking them out in the boneyard, so it's possible (probable, really) that if you have a 280z with a smallblock in the front, and it STILL sits too high, the parts just may not be compatible...But just to be clear, you have ZX springs and struts, or just ZX hubs and rotors? -

veritech-z replied to deja's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
When you say "whole suspension" are we talking strut tubes too, or just the springs and cartridges? Is it an adjustable coilover suspension that has an incorrect adjustment in the rear? Also, is the engine in your car, or out? -
Whew, much better (on both counts). But that would have been awfully Hybridz of you to have all that time in your car and still use a broomstick for a hood prop...

A lot of companies. I've bought blue springs from h & r before, although the last set I got for my altima were black. They tend to stamp their logo on the coils though. Where did you get the suspension, and was it advertized as containing a certain brand of spring? -
Chelle, your car is spectacular. Is that you in this photo? *edit* Please tell me that isn't a broom handle hood prop?!
