Cool you found one!!! Now you say you kept up with a El Camino. Granted he's running 400hp (did you see a dyno sheet for this?) What gears is he running, what tranny? What engine set up are you running, tranny? What were you running gear wise before? Smoke late model M3's where stop light to stop light or freeway top end? Not trying to beat you down or call you out but would like to know more info on your set up. I plan on switching from a 3.7LSD to a 3.54 keeping the LSD. The tranny is a WC T-5, may swap out to a T-56 if funds allow.

Supply and demand. 15K, 20K, what ever the market will bear. Head on over to a ZCCA event and we'll see how crazy some folks can get with their wallets. Your selling them a "dream". You don't think a pristine Scarab is worth $20K? Tell me what you "think" one similar to, or actually mine is worth? To you maybe $5K, huh? But I'll bet you a nickel there is somebody out there somewhere willing to pony up 20K+ for a "real" Scarab. I'm not saying they live right around the block from me but they're out there. When I was selling my Cobra I did't thing there was anybody willing to pay 28K for a kit car, well there was and damn quick too. Last I heard the guy turned the Cobra for 29K, funny thing about that car is that I only paid $25K for it. Hmmmmm. It's all about the market and timing.

You may want to add another zero to you prices. One of these days I hope to venture out to AZ to Barret Jackson with the Scarab in tow, take a gamble on what the car will bring. I'll either be licking my wounds or packing a pocket full of cash. One of the most important things is documentation from either the factory, magizene articles ,build sheets etc. A "deal" the the perception of the buyer.

Dayum, that's the deal of the year!!! All you would need to do is swap out the slush box for a 6 speed, add big brake kit and you're done!!!! How do I talk Lisa in to one more white Z hmmmmm.

Somebody want to go in this direction with a Z? http://www.pimpmywheels.com/ -
As a Scarab owner I would have to say NO to “re” modifying the car. Yes each car was different but shared many similarities ie base Scarab parts required for the install. As far as the value of a Scarab serial plated car it varies just as all things do. I feel an original Scarab to be worth more than a similarly modified JTR car. I’m comparing apples to apples here by engine position only. The Scarab cars have a history behind them JTR cars do not. The demise of Scarab Inc. remains shrouded in mystery. About 250 +/- cars were converted by Brian Morrow and sold as “new” cars. CARB eventually shut down the operations of Scarab but what happened to the cars? Currently only 12-13 of the original cars can be located, that in its self makes the cars “rare”. Sure it was “just” a guy out in California retrofitting Datsun Z cars with Chevrolet engines but he did gain media attention with articles in Motor Trend and various other publications, thus making it a “car of interest” to high performance enthusiasts. Can you recall what the Motor Trend car of the year was in 1979 (year my car was converted)? Try the Buick Riviera S! What was the MT import car of the year in 1979? Datsun 280zx!! So you can see as far as performance there was a void of sheer power and this guy was trying to fill that void (ZX owners please don’t come throwing flames;) Perhaps the Scarab isn’t/wasn’t the best handling car on the road due to engine position but when is the last time you saw an original Scarab at your local Z car show? I took my Scarab to only one Z car show this year (BransonZfest.com) and the response to the car was incredible. I had so many comments and questions about the car I was taken aback. Most people at the show had never seen an “original” Scarab, they really appreciated the engineering of the Scarab install combined with the clean classic first generation Z car lines (my Scarab is a 1971 model build date 10-70, SN# HLS30 012297). So perhaps I’m a Scarab “purist” I would love to “save” them all because of their historical value.

I know all the lips are polished. If Scott has internet access (who really doesn't in this day and age) I'll send him a link to this thread, perhaps he'll reply. I'll start making a list of questions for him. -

Again each wheel is custom so bolt pattern and offset can be specified. Compomotive makes awsome wheels. I received a quote from them for a set of their "mesh" wheel, granted 3 piece custom offset 4 lug but still rang in at $500/wheel. To me that's expensive (you pay for quality, I know) But the Team3's at $335/wheel that is affordable compared to 500 for Comps and 600 for Wats. -

Arrange it and discuss it on a new thread. Keep this one focused on Team3 wheels. Personally I think Centerline has gone off the map on their pricing for billet wheels, what cost $175 at the begining of this year now costs almost double. Like I said I "think" these are cast wheels, I'll call Scott tomorrow and get more info on production and weight, of course weight will vary by size. I do know the lip is polished, how it is finished beyond that I do not know. They do offer full polishing at an upcharge which will have a price decrease next year as they have found a better ie more reasonable price for polishing. Don't bad mouth these wheels before the facts are present, I found Team3 through many hours of seaching for a wheel that is affordable and offers the offset and bolt pattern that will fit our cars with out going 5 lug. Mission accomplished. I'll be ordering a set as soon as I find out a little more info on finish, weight doesn't worry me too much because I'll soon be running close to 500hp (crank) which is plenty to scare the crap-o-la out of me. Will update tomorrow. -
Well there's you answer to small claims court, you have the machinist's word on what he did to your engine. I think that's proof enough!!!

I believe they are cast wheels. Mamba, great idea but each wheel is made to order so they won't have any finished wheels on hand. BUT go by there and get some high resolution (sp) pictures. The ones on their web site are a bit grainy. I'd like to see closes ups of the center section, is it finished or painted or clearcoated etc. Gather up any and all info you can get your hands on. Scott has an old 260 so he speaks Z car too. -
I had the same experience, the 4x4 upgrade just doesn't give the braking your looking for. Sounds like you did the install correctly but if you really want to STOP you're going to have to upgrade. Read this, see question #3. http://www.arizonazcar.com/brakekitfaqs.html I promise you the AZ brakes are awsome, you WILL notice a HUGE difference.

Watanabe/Panasport Knockoffs deep dish!!!
dsommer replied to dsommer's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm sure they will be, Team3 has been in business for several years now. I think of waiting too, but the last time I waited the Pannasport C8's jumped from $3XX/wheel to colse to $600. Even the billet Centerlines have gone up considerably. So why wait. I'm going to order before years end and sit on them, shoot maybe even order a second set for future use! -

dsommer replied to dsommer's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The whole wheel is under the fender though. Each whell is custom made. The Watanabes that 240Hoke and Villindi MS are running are 16x9 -13 offset fronts and 16x9.5 -19 offset rears. Hence the "lip" on their wheels. Negative offset is where you get the "lip". Of course to run this offset coil overs are needed and flairs are a nice touch too. Scott at Team3 said that currently the 16" wheel in not available, but 17’s are. So just apply the same offset to a 17†wheel. I’m unsure of what tire size would give the stretched look to the tire and wheel combo though. I believe you would need a 50 series to accomplish this. -

Go to their site for pricing. Figure a set of 2 17X9 and 2 17X9.5 for around $1450 to $1500 depending on shipping location, to me that's a darn good price! -

Sorry I don't have the link, look around in the Misc section it was posted a week or two ago. -
Thanks to those of you who own Wat’s (I’ve got a set of Pana’s but low and behold they are only 16X7’s). You guys have pushed me to my limit of searching for a similar wheel at a price that is affordable. I called Pannasport about C8's(?) the nice gentleman came back with a price of $597/wheel darn! The company in the UK with the similar wheel, based on the exchange rate today is about $515 plus shipping.…. Here is what I found; I think everybody will be amazed. A few weeks ago somebody posted a pic of a yellow Z with a G-nose and Halibrand knock offs. This got me thinking that the Halibrand knock offs would be a way to get mucho rim for mini dollars. Having owned a Cobra (Factory Five Racing) in the past I knew were to start my search. Although my Cobra was fitted with 3 piece Compomotive wheels $$$ I know there are many similar brands and available that vary in price. not my old cobra pic courtesy of team 3 wheels I absolutely love the 8 spoke design but know darn well I cannot spend the $2400-$2600 to join the elite club. I mean I could swing it but with 11 month old twins and not much time to work on cars, that’s big bucks. So as I poke along looking for the “acorn” I finally ran across a site that offered the wheels at an affordable price. But they are 5 lug. I could adapt but as I scrolled further down the page I found these! I reviewed the site, they offered pricing, sizes, pictures and a phone number. I gave them a call just to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me. I spoke with a woman named Jin, very knowledgeable about the products. I told her what I was putting them (Datsun Z car) and she said hold on let me get Scott! Scott picked up the phone and it turns out he originally designed these wheels for the Datsun Z cars 10 YEARS AGO!!!! He has a 260 sitting somewhere in need of restoration but no time. Sizes up to 17X11 with 3.5 to 8.5 backspacing!!! WOW!!! Please visit their site and take a look at what they offer. Many sizes, offsets etc!!! http://www.team3wheels.com/ac/ I told Scott his business for this wheel should start picking up a bit. THE PRICING IS CURRENT!!! YES THE LUG HOLES CAN BE MADE 4x114.3 Let me know what you guys think!!! I feel like a hero today!!! David ALL PICTURES ARE COURTESY OF TEAM 3 WHEELS, THANK YOU TEAM 3!!!

Very nice, once again somebody has beaten me to my choice of color I'll probably go straight white when the time comes, boring old white.....

That's pretty much the answer. I'm using Accel shorty header plugs with 90 degree plug boots. You've got to keep a close eye on the wire placement but it works. Now quit sufing the net, get the plugs and fire that thing up!!!

I'm probably average income too but received a sum of money and invested it when the market was at...7K (gulp, don't wanna go back there!) I've been using the gains off of it to live on and support my family (we have the twins via invetro fertilization $$$) So I figure it's money WELL spent. I could have built a few nice cars for what these little shavers cost me out of pocket, but that doesn't matter. I have my family now and soooo proud of them, twin boys, ah the joys. Probably need to pick up one more Z so they can fiddle with it when they get older and catch the bug. Uhoh I hear the wife racking the shotgun, better duck haha.

Twin 10 month old boys are keeping me from working on cars for now. That and a 400K house that won't sell arrrrg! But for some reason I'm thinking about an EFI system, ZG flairs, Watanabe wheels and a paint job. While I'm at it, the Sparco seats I bought last year but haven't installed are a bit small for me so might need to go a different direction with that idea and I want to hook up the N02 bottle and, and, and, it's only money right?
