Investments and emergency fund in check! $15K in a play toy car is quite a bit I'll admit that so is $25K which I had wrapped up in my FFR Cobra (sold). After selling the snake to acquire the Scarab it dawned on me that the Cobra was not a good investment (although it appreciated 10% in 16 months but after paying insurance and buying little things for it I figure I broke even, and had all that fun with the car, I don't keep receipts Yeah have fun but save for tomorrow. A penny saved is a penny earned. I like the 401K's because you don't have immediate access to any of it!

Mike, Just a note, some companies are now offering a Roth attachment to their 401K's. Mine is. After much research to find the answer (how my company matches the savings plan) the best bet is to max out the 401K to company match (7% in my case) and put the remainder into a Roth. Now back to the original post... Gosh you came across the money or was it re-up money? If re-up money have taxes been taken out of it already? I'd sit on it for now, I know how your feeling. Out of country with a car on the other side of the ocean, damn. Here's what I did. I would buy parts as funds allowed and have them shipped to my dads house, onec I returned on leave I would work on my car. It's not like I was buying tires and wheels just "stuff". Nowadays you have e-bay, if I were you I'd persue parts that way. Your not in a rush to get car parts. If the body of your car is not too good (no rust) why not have body and paint work done while you're away. Can somebody handle the details of this for you??? One other "thought" on the subject as people say invest save etc. Consider this, see mention of the Scarab in my signature? That is an investment car. It will either hold it's value or increase in value. It's not my daily driver nor will it ever be. Consider investing in an older car when you get back. 15K is a good start, by the time you get back perhaps you'll have another 3-6K and that will really put you in a solid buying position for an investment car. If you're so much into Z's consider a first gen 240 as original as possible (can I say that on HybridZ ha-ha) or one of the other special cars Datsun made, 10 year anniversary, Shiro, 50th anniversary, Scarab if you can find one, etc.

Based on what? Or am I missing something? $5K, 480 months, 10% return. FV=$268,503.31 $5K, 480 months, 15% return. FV=$1,943,503.42 What a difference 5% makes!!!

Gas + electric drill + sparks = BOOM How about just getting a 5 gallon jug of gas, put some stabil (sp) in it and let it sit until you need it? If I were you I'd run the generator for 10-15 minutes every other week. Just my .02 worth.

Pics of my Smoked Turn Signals and Side Markers... *56k beware*
dsommer replied to a topic in Body Kits & Paint
They go nicely with the theme of your car, at first look I didn't care for them too much but after all the pics loaded they look good. Clean car! you need wider wheels -
I can vouch for Poundz9oh9 I know him personally and can say he is a stand up guy good on his word. Don't trust me? I've been a member here since Feb 2000, just about when this board took off. Mike Kelly can vouch for me as we have done business on some parts. If I had my Holley Commander system in hand I'd buy the computer but alas I still wait to find my "deal". Anybody know of a deal on a HC system??? Hey Marcus did you miss this???

Thinking of selling the V8 240Z...
dsommer replied to RedZ85's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
That's what I did/am doing. So far I have about $700 to the good (minus the 45/month storeage fees for 2 years yuck yuck, we won't mention that). When is the baby due??? 280zone made these, Marcus sold his hood and is waiting patiently on a CF replacement. My hybridZ The Scarab sorry had to share. -

I'm going to try to go next year on the company dime. Castrol Oil baby.

Perhaps but as stated before RPM's kill engines. Better get a main girdle, rocker stud girdle and assorted other high RPM life savers.

Safe: FCISX, pays monthly dividends Fun to watch your money grow. MBAGX -
If you want a "high winding" engine just build a roller engine. I cannot describe (for those who have never driven a or ridden in a car so equiped) how zippy my 350 is with a mechanical roller cam add to that a 3.7 geared rear end and T-5 tranny you better have a rev limiter and be a quick shifter!!!

Thoughts and prayers to his family they must be devistated. That totally sucks, so young, so much to live for. Gotta be careful out there on a bike, in a Z or just crossing the street. Although I never met him I did PM him once or twice answered my questions quick so he must have been on the board quite often. We'll miss him. David

Got it back together and test drove!!!!

Post up some more specs on the car!!! Love the seats did you do the install? What mods did you have to do to make them fit? Tell us about that 5 lug swap, wheel and tire combo. You've got a super clean car there!!! Silver Z's coming out of the wood work!!! More info more info more info!!! -
Scarab mounted but not an original Scarab car. Clean I like it. Since it is in the "Scarab" position you might want to look into Grumpyvette's post about the long tube headers. They'll fit! Kudos on the ride!!!

You may have better luck putting the parts on e-bay. Head over to e-bay and see if the parts you think are of value are listed. Guage your pricing off of those. I know how you feel about storing junk, been there done that. Item that will sell. Consoles with little or no damage Interior plastics Tail lights Dashs with little or no damage Fenders if straight Head light buckets (I'd keep a set myself) Front hubs for those 240 owners that convert over to AZ brake kit Rear stub axles for CV conversions on 240's R-200 rear ends with moustach bar, somebody is always looking Light lenses if in decent shape

Update on the 26 x 9.5 x 15 slick's!
dsommer replied to ULISES's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Great info too bad 15" wheel won't clear the AZ brake set up. Looks awsome now you just need some skinnies up front -
I had to have a machine shop remove mine for me, they had to put a torch to it, only one, the other side came off fine. Spindle pins, swing by a 4X4 shop, rock crawler shop whatever they usually have the BIG presses for pushing these #$%%#%$#$%$#&*&^!!!!! out.

WOW Bill, that's great how quickly you sold your house and how the dates lined up for you and Chris!!! You are truly blessed. Top it off the mover is a Z car fan. You gotta love it!!! Best of luck on your move and the new job!!! David

280Zone was building them and selling them, here is the link...you bunch of newbies http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101130 As far as filling the holes, don't know just yet, I may weld them or just let the body shop take care of them, I am no where near paint so I'm not worried about it. The 240 has received NO attention since 5/05 after Branson Zfest, then we found out were were having twins (boys), moved into a new house, got the Scarab, moved out of new house back into old house 11/05 (long story short don't EVER move a pregnant woman!!!) boys were born 12/05 and now I have ZERO time for my Z cars. Occasionally I get the Scarab out and drive it around the block, but the 240, well let's just say I'm collecting parts at this time. As it sits now it has a full roller 350, TFS heads, WC T-5, R-200 LSD, CV axles, AZ Z car Willwood brake kit at all 4 corners, all bushings have been replaced too. I want to go coil over next, get the big wide wheels and flair the car... all in time...
