  1. And I think this is the guy you met... Larry Chen. It has an SR20 in it now. http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/01/ole-orange-bang-my-1970-datsun-240z/ http://www.speedhunters.com/tag/ole-orange-bang/
  2. Start the first video just before the 2:30 mark. And start this one at 1:00
  3. Yeah, I've never heard of a 1975 260z in the US. It should be registered as a 1974. Yours sounds like kind of an oddball though.
  4. I think your best bet is going to be a good condition used rack.
  5. My guess is that you would see the welds where the VIN was transplanted if you removed the cowl panel and felt the backside of the firewall.
  6. Radiator support (hangs lower, and beefier), and the remains of the crash bumper supports, but you probably wouldn't notice those unless you were looking for them in that picture. And the floors too, as Plata mentioned. Dead giveaway.
  7. Low VIN huh? That's a 280z body. Sorry to say, but someone screwed you.
  8. I wasn't expecting the finished product to look as good as it does. Impressive work! I had a similar thought, but more along the lines of this:
  9. Well, I don't think this is really the answer you're looking for, but given what you said there, I would actually keep the stock Z suspension. You can adjust the mounting points and such for better geometry, but IMO the suspension is a big part of what makes the Z what it is, and when you swap it for something else, that's when it is no longer a Z. If you don't like that idea, look into E36 M3 F+R suspension. It's been done on here, on a stock chassis (no tube frame) no less, and IIRC the E36 M3 was once named C&D's best handling car (for whatever that's worth). I don't believe the swap added much weight either.
  10. It's nothing that hasn't been fixed many times before by members on here, and he welds for a living. For what he wants, I think the body is fine. Do they check that sort of thing out there? I don't think they really bother out here, and NJ got rid of its safety inspection a few years ago. I don't really see that being an issue. I'm guessing Iowa isn't too strict on that sort of thing either.
  11. Lol what? This site started out as a forum specifically for V8 swapped Zs. But, back to your question, honestly, I think pics (several good, detailed pics, not 3 blurry ones) here would help a lot. And although I wouldn't say there's a lot purists on here, there still needs to be a bit of discretion when choosing a car to swap. Depending what condition your 240z is in, and what year it is, and how much of it is original, I might advise you to just leave it alone. The 260z though could be a great contender for an auto-x car, but again, need to see what you're working with to say. What builds have you looked at on here regarding a tube frame? 74 5.0L Z did a great front tube chassis on his 260z, and that might be a good place to start looking for inspiration.
  12. I actually have a picture of your car saved because I liked what you did with the exhaust tips, and wanted to copy it on my own car. Needless to say, I think it looks great! Painting the muffler black would make it look even better. My only concern is that patch towards the front of the driver's floor pan. It doesn't look like it's anything more than a piece of metal held on by a few rivets. I'm worried that water is going to seep in, and get trapped under your sound deadening, and make the problem worse. Get that welded up properly.
  13. To be fair, you do have a very early 240z, and most people would agree that it's worth putting more of an effort into preserving a car like that than a later model
  14. You sure about that? As far as I know they're installed from the back.
  15. I don't know if they're exactly the same since the rad supports are different, but on my 280z, I got 40 3/16" on the driver's side, and 40 1/4" on the pass. side, from the firewall, butted up against the rad support where it meets the frame rail. I used two rulers to measure instead of a tape measure so those numbers should be pretty accurate.
  16. I remember a few posts by this guy. His son is 15, and it's boosted, has a welded diff, and has shitty stretched tires. And it seems to me that Dad is doing most of the work, based on the way he writes his posts. Handing a new driver, that doesn't yet have a handle on the effects of testosterone, a car like that is a recipe for disaster, and yes, absolutely stupid. There's a reason you have so many people telling you it's stupid - IT IS! And impressing high school chicks? Are you kidding me?
  17. Have you made any progress since we last heard from you?
  18. This isn't a 240 though. It's a 280z that doesn't run. It's NOT worth 5k. If the body is good, and the car is complete, I think 3k is in the ballpark.
  19. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/120342-datsun-z-fiberglass-a-real-review/ And I don't think Tabco has the parts he's looking for since those aren't really common items.
