  1. i can barely draw my own name...
  2. shows my z in good company within the garage at watkins glen. note the expensive stuff in the background i was able to beat up on!
  3. here we are at watkins glen. me in the middle, julian on the left and clive [aka evilc] on the right. i was there to drive, clive & julian got to hit the track with a couple of the instructors to get their first taste of wgi at speed-now they have been officially bitten by the speed bug!
  4. spent much time on the phone with several brake company engineers [they continued to refer me to another one] and i began at classic tube then baer brakes then kvr and finally hawk. my last move prior to any mechanical changes was to install the new kvr pads on all 4 corners [got them from ross], properly bed them in and still had too much front brake. so, what i wound up doing was to change rear pads from the kvr's to a higher coefficient of friction pad-the hawk hp+, bedded them in and went for a test drive. initial drive went well, bias appeared to be acceptable and all felt 'good'. the real test-track days at watkins glen. well, if you're a regular here you already know that the 2 day event at wgi went very well for me. brakes worked great, no fading or pulling, good modulation and minimal wearl. overall i'm extremely happy. i discovered that none of the components were 'bad' and i now suspect the bias problem is solved through some fine tuning via brake pads. i can supply the hawk pad numbers for anyone interested as well as their race pads. glad that problem is solved! now on to tackle my q45 diff install...this winter
  5. hey all, just got back from a mini family vacation. we departed after i returned from a 2 day event at watkins glen. had a great time last wed-thurs running at the track. we got 4 x 30 min sessions on track each day along with classroom instruction. i was also fortunate to be signed off to go solo my second day-it was great hot-lapping on my own. evilc was there and i was able to get him at least one session on the track in another car with an instructor. we thought we had some great in-car video in the making but had some tech difficulties with the camcorder-otherwise you'd see my little-ole-z passing some pretty decent machinery-including [but not limited to-lol], viper gts, c6 corvette, c5 corvette zo6, sube wrx sti, supra tt, mustang cobra r, 350z, c5 vette, bmw m3 [2006], lotus elise [2005]. i saw 144mph on the back straight before having to hit the binders so i could make the bus stop. the car ran magnificantly, got 30 mpg heading down and back from the track and about 8-10 mpg while driving around the circuit. temps were hi 80's-lo 90's and humid, my temp gauge never got above 195 f. overall i was thrilled and can't figure out why i didn't do this sooner!
  6. mine will get the real test on wed/thurs. i'm heading down to watkins glen for a 2 day school. we've got 90+ degrees today, heat factor puts us over 100 [takes into account the humidity]. i have a wizard cooling rad. all tig welded [not epoxied like some of the big name rads] and made just for my little old ls1 z. http://www.wizardcooling.com/

    Wow

killer of what? ladies, men, ricers...LOL [i crack my bad self up!]
  8. i've only taken one trip so far but will trek to watkins glen next week. i'm getting ~30mpg on the highway running around 70mph. around town commuting to work and running around somewhere in the mid teens ~15mph. filled up with 87 octane for the heck of it last week, no real difference. figured since i'm not racing on the street i didn't need full power, will fill up with premium once i get to the glen.
  9. sweet ride austin-clean and basic and LOOOOOOWWWWWW, now time to get a pair jdm mirrors on the fenders!
  10. stony, i believe you've already id'd the real idiot. unfortunately he's driving a z...a 350z. i'm no engineer but it wouldn't surprise me if his rotors cracked pretty quick with the first spray. he's probably the same type who would hose off his engine to cool it down after a hard run.
  11. 280zfan and 70z, i used the same template [i think i found it on the same website u referenced] and cross referenced it with a 76 fairlady i measured up. since no one where i live even knows how they should be mounted i guess i'm safe. plus, even if they're an inch off, who's gonna know? carfan, there are 5 vids [i believe] of my car on streetfire. one of a poor quality burnout, 1 of a lap around watkins glen, 1 of my first drive with the ls1, 1 of the full exhaust drive and the dyno video. evilc recorded and uploaded the first drive and full exh drive vids.
  12. snapped this last night, shows new mirrors

    new muffler

From the album: Drivetrain / Exhaust

this shows the muffler i used for my exhaust. t304 3" in/out magnaflow muffler. sounds great, just a bit more muffled than the slp loudmouth i had and fits great.
  14. thanks for the compliment joe-much appreciated. ask evilc about the street scene, he's got the "in". still have the kill stickers. i think they're civic hatchbacks. my dad gave them to me a few years back [they caeme in his autoweek magazine]. he thought they'd look 'cool' on my z.
  15. nim sticker still there but i did wax the beast. too bad u were gone this past weekend. evil took me for a late night tour of the s. bronx. not as many street racers as we had hoped for though...
  16. i love it, yet another lsz joining the ranks!
  17. i've had these fairlady fender mirrors for a couple years now and finally got the nerve to drill holes in my fenders to mount them. removed my trusty old vitaloni californian mirrors [still working on a cover-up for the door mounting holes]. i think they look great and are surprisingly easy to get used to driving with and seem to eliminate blind spots. i've only got a few driving miles on them but am still getting used to not having to turn my head to see the mirrors. here's a link to my gallery pic. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=8227&cat=500
  18. this was the point of no return, permanent marker then the pilot holes thru the fenders!
  19. yes, send the cd-then i could hang it from my mirror in my z and look...?
  20. here's a link to where i posted info when i chased down my reaction disc-there's another link withing the post to pics in my gallery of the vac booster internals. perhaps one of the moderaters can sticky that one for us [hint, hint]. david http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=110874
  21. jon, the 'understeer' u saw in the vid was me actually locking the front brakes when they were quite front bias [as u know i've been working on sorting that out-but much better now]. the car actually handles quite neutral, unless i use my right foot for steering!
  22. his z?! no, my z-his in still in progress... muffler-magnaflow ss 3" offset in center out $45 from summitt racing.
