  1. If your Miata/MX5 is not fast enough you could always convert it into a Bullet http://www.fastlane.com.au/Custom_Shed/AEC_Bullet.htm Despite what they say there it is basically a Miata/MX5.
  2. Link to BRC http://www.brcperformance.com/about.htm
  3. Thanks MtC, yeh you've mentioned BRC pistons before, will check them out. I believe the VG30DETT crank will fit but not sure about which oil pump will and which has the highest capacity. Got any idea what RPM a decent VG33 would make power to? With say a GT35R turbo, cam, maybe oversize valves. I'm thinking 7000 max.
  4. Seeing that the project S130 is on the way, better start getting serious. Would like to use a VG33 and turbocharge it, maybe 8.5:1 CR, looking for ~500whp and reliability. I know that the VG33 can be bored out to 3.4 liters using Q45 pistons but the resulting high compression ratio seems to be a problem. Escort Racing make suitable forged pistons but they are too expensive. Also the 33 has a cast crank so that could be a problem? If its all going to cost too much I'd prefer to use a VG30DET or DETT, even though the single cam VG is my preference. There is info around on mixing and matching the 3 liter VG stuff, its just that I'd prefer more engine capacity. So, is there any cost effective way to mix and match parts so I can end up with a single cam VG with low CR forged pistons, forged internals and more than 3 liter capacity?
  5. From memory the Z31 has about 6 degrees caster, which should be good in a S30, help turn in which can be a problem with the stock S30 setup. Of course if the whole Z31 setup was transplanted into a S30 the amount of caster would depend on the physical location of each strup top compared with the outer suspension balljoint, as fitted into the S30. Anyway, that sort of transplant has the attraction to me of adding power steering, bigger brakes etc to make it worth looking at. Mickey mouse stuff though compared with what is going to happen to my newly acquired S130 two seater
  6. Assuming that a good drift setup is basically just a very stiff race setup, correction invited? If that is right then your main problem would be the body, they flex too much stock, a stiff setup will just flex the body more. The stock strut suspension while not being ideal should be able to be made to work, the usual coil over conversion with good shocks. The wheelbase/track ratio on the two seat S30 is about right? Or would the longer 2+2 be better? Not sure about that. It would just be a question of time and money, the body could be stiffened up no problem. For anyone prepared to do it properly it should work, love to see a dorifto S30 in tyre smoking action Oh, and you might want to do a search, fairly sure this has been discussed before.
  7. Strut front suspension? Nissan did a fair bit of work on the Z31, changed the scrub radius and built in more caster? Anyway, whatever they did exactly it was to improve performance capability. If I did a S30 again, the entire Z31 front Xmember with suspension, brakes and power steer rack would be a prospective replacement. Probably give more track too. The rack behind the Xmember (Ackermann?) may get in the way of an L series sump though.
  8. Oh come on BRAAP, noone apologises around here Now if I can sneak some 'off topic' stuff in, the Supra front suspension module is massive, not impossible but impractical to fit. But the Z32 front in a S130 or maybe even a S30, hmmmm, worth a look, yes. Wide track, here we go
  9. An angle grinder works most times, as described for the cutoff wheel. A modified proper sized drill bit can also be used. The drill is ground with a flat face ie 90 degree angle to the shank, but with a sharp tit in the center. The tit helps keep the drill centered when starting, the flat face of the drill 'mills' the spot weld metal down.
  10. Thanks all, plenty there to be going on with, love that Electramotive ZX.
  11. Nice work Jon, if mine turns out as good as yours I'll be a very happy chappie.
  12. Something like on the M3 below, would have to be curved in keeping with the Z side line and profile though. Opinions?
  13. Might suit a S30 or S130?
  14. Thats right, some Skylines do have them and Jon, yes, that type of thing on the 510. Although those particular ones, hmmm.............. I have a US authoured car sheetmetal fabrication book around somewhere but can't find it. There was a how to do it project on the subject in that book, damm. If the side body line of the S30 or S130 was followed in designing boxed flairs they could look quite good, could look awful though if the design was not right?
  15. Should have pics shouldn't I, but they were done a lot around the '80's, particularly in Europe. Basically it was done by curving the fender out along a vertical line then inserting a curved piece along the top. So the fender had a definate line along the top. Anyway I'm sure someone knows what I'm raving about, question is - are there any Z's around with this done? Because it seems like an alternative to the usual flared and curved work done to increase wheel space. Meanwhile I'll try and find some pics.
  16. Good to see someone working outside the square. The Z31 has a lot of potential, doubt that this one will stay stock for long.
  17. You may get a free Top Secret sticker with the oil though John
  18. US$700 seems to be a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a nothing special single plate clutch. With my 500whp project I'm going with a twin plate setup that will not cost much more than that.
  19. I went through the same thing, did a lot of searching and came up with virtually nothing of use. All I can suggest is that you get hold of an EFI fuel tank or two and cut them open. One peculiar thing is that a 510's fuel tank is very well well baffled in comparison with the S30's which is poor.
  20. My '77 had stock a bracket located between the RH side of the fuel tank and the suspension, on which the stock elecric pump and filter was mounted. Using a fabricated replacement bracket in the same area, I was able to mount a Holley red pickup pump, a small surge tank, a Bosch EFI pump and a filter. So there is space there, its just a matter or working out how to locate everything so that the various fuel lines can match up.
  21. Supra is good? Cressida and other similar sedans?
  22. Excellent work there Sulio, they look good enough to sell.
