  1. What I see is a fast race track with all these red things in the way slowing you down
  2. Vale johnc. In my experience he nails the point about helical diffs, they work great while both wheels are on the deck otherwise go the clutch type. As for tuning the clutch type that's well beyond most of us amateurs I suggest, at least with the helical you know that the suspension has to be set up so both drive wheels will stay on the deck. Get that right and you have the basis of a nice, fast, drivable package.
  3. Going on your pics and comments it looks like the Dirty Dingo engine mounts are the go, I normally make my own but it's a bugger of a job.
  4. Definately not a Porker on principle, present Jeep Cherokee diesel is fine for a daily, for track use the LS3 280ZX is all my own work so that counts. Nah, I'm fine thanks, Z31 V8 project race car is keeping me engaged.
  5. Thanks again, your whole build is a real credit to you.
  6. Thanks, and that cleared the power steering bits on the rack OK? Will probably use electric power steering on my Z31 which will allow more front space for the sump.
  7. Need more pics lol no, great build and documented to the max. I forget, what sump did you use with this?
  8. Don't think that my tandem airbag trailer is available in the US, basically it's a tilt plus the airbags are exhausted to unload and then pumped up when reloaded. My little Cherokee diesel tows it like a champ, one reason for this is that there is virtually no overhang past the Jeep's rear wheels so they are close to the trailer, less leverage involved. Plus there is a high weight allowed on the towbar not that it's necessary here.
  9. Cut them off then although the main benefit from a flat spoiler is to tidy up the airflow around the back and reduce drag a bit.
  10. If it has to be flat then what about the bird bath style the first 280ZX racers used? RX7's had them too? For a low speed wing profile I'd be looking at various NASA profiles for a STOL type.
  11. Can't mod the engine mounts to lower the engine more? The higher the engine the more centre line angle which is not good when trying to line up the drivetrain properly, it may also affect fitting the big 80 in. Mount makers should put several alternative hole locations in their mounts, slack.
  12. What Cary said ^^^ I have seen it done before, plus put a spacer sleeve between the two front wheel bearings. This obviously provides support to the stub axle, of course the spacer has to be machined just right to keep the bearings happy. 240 struts should really not be used on a race car, particularly when stronger OE items are available. Mr Nissan did the upgrade for a reason.
  13. If he wants it to stay Nissan then a built turbo VG33 would obviously be straight forward compared with any other Nissan V6 swap, depends on how much power he wants. Mostly other V6 swaps are not done for a good reason, cost. Boring but best is a LSx which has been done before.
  14. Scraper and windage tray for a LS3? I got one of your original scrapers which was rubbish but these look good, you offered me a huge discount on this new model so a big plus for your after sales service. PM special price to Richard from Australia if you like, cheers.
  15. Not something I've heard of before but after so many years service crack testing could be a good idea. For a temporary fix check with a specialist welder.
  16. Like it, if the design is as good as they say then it should be great around a circuit. Just do me a favour though and weld those patches that look like they are just riveted.
  17. It's getting attention, lots, trust me
  18. That 'modified' Z has not traveled well through the decades looks wise but if someone wants to save it then good on them. Even cars hit with the ugly stick need some love
  19. That's terrible news, hard to believe
  20. Yep, lots of core shifts with those blocks, checking wall thickness is essential if serious.
  21. No kick down, going to keep it flat. Why? To lower undercar pressure the faster the air speed the better and whatever else a kick down might do it's going to partially block undercar air flow which will slow it down and increase air pressure. Not much interest in aero? It's damn important if you want to go fast, it's not all about the engine you know.
  22. 280ZX is rock solid at high speed using basic aftermarket type aero, plus a splitter/undertray combination. The S30 is harder to get right right but its quite possible if bodywork, suspension and aero devices are all combined to work together. With the LS3 my 280ZX should reach around 260kph (~160mph) at Bathurst road circuit later this year.
