  1. These are basically a sleeve that is compressed between the two front wheel bearings, not really compressed but when the bearings are correctly adjusted the sleeve sits up hard between the two bearings supporting them and reducing flex. There are adjustable ones around? It's for my race Z31 project but any info on one that suits a S30 would be a help.
  2. Nice pic, paint shows the lines nicely.
  3. So you Murricans know about our MCS secret suspension advantage With the Pacific Peso, err Aussie $, weak against the US they should be good buying right now, Murray does several grade versions for the S30, I've been running his top version for years. No rear ARB, heavy front bar and springs, it's on a knife edge and stays there courtesy MCA.
  4. G-E does some good Z31 bits, money where mouth is here. So that's my starting point. What would make this product more attractive is it's suitability for lowering the rear suspension while at least retaining the original roll centre height, something that the usual strut chop does not do. Better value for money and a much bigger market. Well it should be but until modders realise that there is a need then in reality it doesn't exist, if you get my drift.
  5. Even if it's to do with drag racing, sorry, can't help myself Are there any circuit racing 280ZX's in the US, I suspect that they are potentially faster than most think.
  6. I have used production car patch vents, they are simply a repro metal stamping of the vent itself so you can cut, insert and weld it in place.
  7. No experience but if you are sure that your calculations are correct then just go ahead and do what it takes to get the alignment right. Not all parts from an aftermarket supplier are always perfect.
  8. Where are we at here, RebekahsZ was in the middle of an interesting comparison of several enhanced bobtail rear spoilers and chickenman as usual had some useful info. I've decided with both the 280ZX and Z31 track cars not to use wings but rather stick with period correct devices at the back. gnosez mentioned the whale tail as being good, I'm thinking one with a Gurney lip may have a fair bit less drag than an enhanced bobtail. Will have to dig through my pics to see if there is one on a Z there. EDIT: pic show what I had in mind.
  9. Wow, a big thanks to you Chickenman for going to the trouble of providing all that info. Cheers
  10. Racing at Bathurst, the world's best circuit.
  11. Looks great except for the fashionable big mouth. Aero wise that is rubbish but i guess that it could be modded.
  12. Don't worry about the bath, show some in car racing action.
  13. Nothing wrong with a good strut suspension at all, the S30 is blessed with having struts at the rear too.
  14. So the go is to kick the back of the undertray up, if there is an option, in conjunction with the undertray itself sloping up at the back. In other words, the back should be higher than the front. For circuit racing where there are track undulations, some rising and falling.
  15. Yes that's my understanding of the way it works standard out of the box. But racing involves lots of things happening quickly so simple controls are a must.
  16. No pics taken of mine during the build, it's been a running car for years now so the diff, axles and all the other stuff under there obscures the build detail. S14 subframe into a two seater, rear S14 mounts match up to an existing body X member, fronts are narrower and a bit back from the OE mounts. So basically you do what is fairly obvious, reinforce where the S14 mounts are going to sit and bolt them in through the floor. Detail will only confuse, you know that something like a suspension subframe needs to be solidly mounted so that's what you do. If you can weld, make brackets and so on then go for it. The good thing now is that dropped rear spindles are available to help keep the proper rear suspension geometry correct if the car has to be lowered more than the S14 suspension should be. Nearly forgot, be careful with measuring everything to make sure the rear suspension is square with the rest of the car. I just used the usual measuring tools, when the wheel alignment was done the machine showed .01* out of square when new cars can be several degrees out. A bit lucky of course but it shows what can be done with care.
  17. Good one, a starting point for roll centres would be rear at the bottom of the diff, front a bit lower so you can tip the car into a corner and roll will be manageable.
  18. There are dropped spindles available for a S chassis transplant which will help to overcome the height disadvantage but, as I keep saying, for the S30 there are better options. 280ZX and Z31, yes, the S transplant works well if done properly. For a bit of a reality check the video, S30 standard type suspension.
  19. In hindsight some of my posts are not the best but the one above says it all and deserves thanks. My avatar car, S14 suspension front and back.
  20. Yes it is normal, but if such charges will be imposed depends on the laws of the importer's country, not the sellers. $260 for shipping of four wheels sound cheap to me.
  21. So, someone else uses work approved footware, we call them thongs which apparently in the US refers to a more personal type of clothing
  22. Thanks chook, I've been looking at all options that avoid double declutching as my clutch leg is a bit wonky. I presently run a sequentially shifted 4L85E behind the LS3, it works OK and certainly helps when racing but at 116kg it's just too heavy. The alternative choices have been narrowed down to a Powerglide auto with a Gear Vendors over/under drive which in total is about 50kg lighter, four speeds with the right spacing are fine. Problem yet to be solved is how to sequentially shift such a combo with a single lever and nothing else.
  23. Let's work this out. Same engine so the mounts are going to fit the engine, different chassis so the mounts won't fit that chassis. But that doesn't mean that they can't be adapted to a different chassis.
