  1. For Mac P suspension shock shaft diameter it extremely important, all else equal the bigger the diameter the more resistance to lateral loading. Plus more bearing and seal area.
  2. Think I must be the only nutter with a 4L85E/LS3 combo in his 280ZX built for circuit laps. No clutch to mess around with plus full throttle shifts FTW in my book.
  3. Mine is a right driver but either way there is bugger all room for the exhaust in a LS/280ZX, from front to back. All mine had to be custom made
  4. Looks good as far as everything fitting in, my 280ZX was a bitch to fit a LS in, particularly the whole exhaust system. Pity about going to carbs though.
  5. Well just get on with it, be thankful that Murrica got the two seaters
  6. For circuit racing, anyone got experience with this type of torque converter? TCI for example claim up to 98% efficiency and down to 2000 RPM stall athough 2500 would suit mine. One way for to tell how efficient a TC can be is the amount of heat it puts out, how big a cooler is required. I find it hard to accept that 98% efficiency is possible, if it is then sounds like it would be very suitable for circuit racing.
  7. Tremec 6060 five speed is a pretty stout box, two different 5th gear ratios available.
  8. Man, you are going where very very few will be able to go with you, good luck.
  9. Shocks from a multi link suspension should not be used on a McPherson strut suspension, like the S30 has, period. Crazy stuff.
  10. Slow shifting? I have some knowledge of the 4L85E and with a suitable aftermarket TCU shifting can be adjusted to give a very fast shift. It all has to be done by someone with experience though because there are several relevant adjustments and their interaction has to be got right to keep the shift smooth without excessive internal slipping, I've been told by a guru that the original GM TCU is also similarly adjustable.
  11. 1/4" to 3/8"?!?!? That's beyond warping and I have no clue what to suggest, good luck with it though.
  12. Yes but rake helps air extraction from under the rear of the car which reduces drag there, plus it helps with stability and reduces any chance of frontal lift which, as well as causing instability, will increase drag by allowing more air under the car and an increase in total frontal area.
  13. 3" drop, incredible, never heard of that before. Front springs must be made of wet noodles but it is a good thing to keep the front as close to the deck as possible. The less air going under the car the less aero drag which facilitates more speed and better stability. Pics are useful to see what is actually happening, run some rake too.
  14. Putting an Accusump on mine as lubrication seems to be the key to long life and reliability.
  15. Can't see how good stiff walled hose will collapse under vacuum, any hose that does is not good enough for use in any part of the lube system anyway. Got any pics/info on your head drains Mike? Gravity or pump operated?
  16. Bug deflector???? Looks more like an aero part to me, it would give some downforce, create some drag in doing so but maybe reduce drag further on by elevating airflow over the bonnet and windscreen. Maybe all that is unintentional but that's what it looks like it would do. As far as the bugs go, where the air goes so do the bugs.
  17. Biased as I am, so it should 'slay' a Golf or any other similar sized production car. I've raced with Clubmans in the Zed, little buggers try to cut inside you on a corner, you look down and there one is, should I change my line or else run him up over the kerb? Hmmm.
  18. Just make sure that the oil in the head drains down efficiently eg external drains, electric scavenge pump in the head.
  19. Given the amount of R&D that went into the original engine as a complete package why would you want to mess with it and use a different cam? Seriously I don't understand the reasoning.
  20. If money really is no object http://lescollinsracing.com/engine/projects-engine/3435cc-z-racer
  21. Might be an idea to check what your'e proposing for a potential bump steer problem. It's pretty easy to get involved in solving fitting problems and forgetting to also check that it's going to be compatible with the rest of the car.
  22. Not welding or otherwise fixing the rear inner to the outer will reduce body strength significantly.
