Same thing happened to my car back in 2008 but it was a cavalier with 107k miles on the stock clutch. Broke all but 1 spring. Put a new hydraulic clutch in and I could press the clutch pedal down with my pinky finger, it was awesome! What brand? How many miles? What hp/tq was it rated for?

1976 280Z Coupe 2002 5.3 bone stock (for now) from a Chevrolet Avalanche with 80k miles. LS1 pan, LS1 alt bracket with 5.3 alternator, LS1 intake/injectors/rails, Taurus fan. TR6060 from a 2011 Camaro SS with 2k miles. Monster Clutch Stage 2 with lightweight flywheel. GTOPL-2 driveshaft adapter and slip driveshaft. TR6060 pilot bearing not a T56 one. JCI Engine Mounts and Custom Trans Mount while utilizing the factory TR6060 rubber mount. AN6 Push Lock Hose, LS1 Factory Returnless Rails (for now), Walbro 255, Corvette FPR, 15 gallon fuel cell. Chevythunder.com wiring harness worked flawlessly truly plug n play, best $500 spent (including emissions flashed computer with 5.3 and LS1 parts on engine). Electronics were my weak point of doing this swap. Compiled data to build for a year, took 1.5 years to find the right deal on a car $2k on 3/19/12 and drove it 300 miles home at 80mph with 169k miles on it and dry rotted tires, pulled straight 6 out on 12/15/12, fired up V8 on 9/14/13. It took 9 months to fire up because of: new 16x8 XXR 531 wheels/tires, full master poly bushing kit, undercoating, tokico 5 way struts/springs, fuel cell, brakes, rotors, bearings, full suspension removal, cleaned calipers, brake lines, RT diff mount, 280ZXT CV’s and adapters, minor rust removal, etc… and around fishing, golf, car shows, truck pulls, girlfriend, new job, you know “life†Now it’s going to be a rush to get the rest fixed up and redo interior, dash, paint/body work competed but at least it’s alive!! Pictures are on my flickr account in my signature (hope to have a build thread soon to show it off with part numbers and future plans). Couldn’t have done it without the help of all the guys on this site (Thanks) and the loads of info I pulled out of here! Time slips soon to follow…

Time for the 5.3 to get some more power

Sweet which type of flares? And what brand are the wheels? Should be a good start to traction for the new setup! Either way sweet! -
Fixed Yoke TR6060 into 76 280z driveshaft questions
EastTnZ replied to EastTnZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Ok so here goes nothing... my update to this topic is that I kept the TR6060 trans and at first built a shifter that attached on top of the rear of the trans and when I went to install it into the Z it did not fit due to room constraints in the tunnel unless I wanted to cutout a huge hole to let it breath. So as of now the shifter is bolted to the transmission tunnel inside the cab to the body and the shifter linkage is connecting the shifter to the trans. Next is the driveline... The back of the TR6060 is a 3 prong setup fixed yoke and takes a conversion flange with a part number GTOPL-2 ($160 new) or similar version made of billet aluminum and guaranteed not to give any vibration even at 10k rpm. After that the adapter lets you bolt on a 1350 4 Bolt u joint to it (standard 4 bolt pattern) and use either a slip driveshaft (what I did) or a more expensive CV style driveshaft (hundreds more). My driveshaft length from adapter plate to centerline of the 1310 u-joint was only 23-9/16" long. Lastly the other end of my driveshaft is outfitted with a 1310 u-joint to mate up to my adapter to the R200 (had to buy longer bolts with new flange). And a RT style diff mount. I hope this picture loads if not then just checkout my flickr page in my signature the pictures are all there. Oliver's Driveshaft in NC made mine and have quick turn around (<1 week to my door), and any driveshaft shop can do this but I used them since it worked already for a couple of other guys with the same setup on ls1tech.com. Recap: TR6060 (less $ more TQ) + GTOPL-2 ($100 used) + Slip Driveshaft ($280) + Neapco 2-2-899-1 ($50) + Longer R200 Bolts (<$15) PS... Make sure you get the right pilot bearing for the TR6060, it's not the same as the T56. http://www.flickr.com/photos/easttnz/9510191859/ -

Dang that looks awesome! Hope you wrap the upper radiator hose with a heat shield sleeve, looks like it'll be close! Awesome fab work though and someday I may add some boost... sub'd Can't wait for dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times! -
I used a 15 gallon universal fuel cell and put the fuel cap behind the license plate. If I had the $$ I would've got a custom tank built to fit the factory fuel door. I agree with rebekahsz because I've got 2 -10AN outputs ready for nitrous/power adders and it's new and clean and simple... And as usual you have to cutout the spare tire well. Good luck with your routing and it's easy to hookup the walbro 255 and corvette fpr setup. I just wish my tank was shallower because it shows from behind the car...

Haha well you could always vinyl wrap it in chrome and see how you like it and it's cheaper than paint lol

Going to be running a 275 radial street class.

Time for the 5.3 to get some more power
EastTnZ replied to mattd428's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
But at $31k base price (plus tax) for the GT vs $13k for my 280 I'll take my Z any day. Very fast for a stock mustang though I'll give it that -

I looked at this strongly for a while and it has a full breakdown of a 5.3 boosted single turbo. Just don't buy an eBay turbo lol. Hot rod put out nearly 600 hp numbers for a little over $3k including HPtuners. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1104_594hp_53l_gen_iii_small_block_for_3252/viewall.html -
Clutch hydraulics question
EastTnZ replied to blueshark123's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I've got to bleed my clutch master this week after I just installed it but before I bolted my Trans to the engine I installed a tick performance 4' speed bleeder which was recommended by everyone. I'd highly recommend it so you don't have to jack up the car and make it a 2 man job. Mine was like $50 from tick. Well worth the money vs the hassle -
So what are people's thoughts on gear ratios for autoxing vs drag racing vs daily driving? How usable is 1st gear in a T56? I'm close to firing my 5.3 up and am curious with my 3.01 vs 2.66 if first is even usable in my case unless I had a hitch and hauled a trailer lol jk Oh and I have the standard 3.54:1 rear R200

From the album: 280z After 5.3 TR6060 Install
This is around the final ride height with 1" tokico lowering springs/struts installed with 225/50/16 on 16x8 XXR 531's. TR6060 from '11 Camaro SS 2k Miles 5.3 from '02 Avalanche 80k Miles -
Have you tried asking around or looking on ls1tech.com
-
Just a thought, have you looked into a rear spoiler to give more rear downforce to match the aero in the front? (Fairlady 432 or MSA Victory styling) I would imagine it will give more traction at high speeds and reduce most of the unstable swaying. However it may only be needed for race applications or prolonged high speeds
-
Dang that thing is rediculous! Just curious whats your speedo max out at? Haha it got pretty close to the limit on the spray! I wouldn't be able to keep from smiling after a pull like that Nice work, the car looks, sounds, and runs great from what I can tell

A little late to the party but I'm putting a TR6060 in mine. Bone stock of course (more tq capacity drew me towards it) but I couldn't find a T56 for a good deal so we'll see how it goes. Worst case it breaks and I go the built T56 route. Not so happy about the fixed yoke rear but we'll see what happens. Later plans include another car (or old 50's chevy truck) with LS power/Turbo or Supercharger/Auto for a daily driving drag car/truck. Or maybe a duramax powered 50's drag truck! Ok now I'm just rambling... My trans is an '11 with 2k on it from a Camaro SS pullout. $1450 Can't wait for the build on this one! They're all different and I like incorporating different ideas/parts/pieces from other builds...if enough people keep putting on superchargers I may have to eat bologna and cheese sandwiches to save $$ and buy one soon after mine's running! Peer pressure...

Modifying JTR headers for V-bands
EastTnZ replied to RebekahsZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
How far past the flange on the headers are everybody putting the o2 sensors? I haven't layed my harness on my engine yet but is it better closer to the flange or as far as your harness will reach or just a happy medium and it doesn't matter at all? -
What am I going to get myself into?
EastTnZ replied to Urijah's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I used chevythunder for my harness and computer and it was $510 I believe for my setup. Real good to deal with and fast. All wires have tabs labeled where everything goes and a cd for the computer with directions and troubleshooting info. My harness needed ls1 parts and truck parts and he custom tailored the wiring harness and computer to my needs and I didn't supply anything but info for measurements. Took like 2-3 weeks shipped to me. I'm no electrical engineer so I didn't wanna fool with messing up my wiring either (most say it's easy though!). I almost went old school gen I motor over the wiring issue. (I'm a civil engineer lol) -
