  1. Piston- Looks really great, bet you can't wait to get her screaming down the street. Mike
  2. John, Thank you. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions I might be able to answer. Mike
  3. I see that you have a "1978 260Z". Is that correct? 260's were not sold in the states after 1974. Just curious. Mike
  4. Also, some fans/shrounds do not work well with some radiators. Some combinations will block air at speed and not allow good airflow. At least that is what I have been told. I am running the JTR radiator with a Ford van 2-speed fan and shroud. Although I haven't run it at anything over about 75 degrees yet it seems to be cooling fine. We will see this summer. MIke
  5. LSx engines with t56 manuals work really well in the Z's. As stated above, if you want to go with the newer GM engines, go with John's for your mounts. I believe he is still the only one selling them, and they work. Check brokenkitty.com for prices. Check out Ulises car on this site (link in his signature) or mine for LS2 swaps. There are also several very nice LS1's on this site. Mike
  6. Sergio, will be interested in what you replace the stock clutch with. I am hoping mine will last a little longer than yours as I don't plan on racing it that much but I know it will give up eventually. Mike
  7. Thanks Phantom, They definately made it worth it and fun for me Too. By the way, if you ever make it back through the Boise area, I'd sure like to meet up with you. Mike
  8. Bartman, Just looking at your plug wire pics- hows that serpentine belt working out for you routed like that lol. Mike
  9. Jody, Love that little cam slop. Lope, lope. Sounds really good, I'd like to hear it rev a little. Mike
  10. Ants, I don't know too much about the VG engine but the newer LSx aluminum block engines from GM are quite light. Lighter than the older L6 Datsun/Nissan engines. Use the search function on this site and you can probably find anything that you could imagine. Mike
  11. I've noticed several posts on this site flaming JCI (Johns Cars Inc) and I would like to add my 2 cents worth. My experience went like this. One of my first two boxes came totally destroyed by UPS. Fan broken, fuel pump MIA. John replaced the stuff immediately and he filed claim with UPS. All the pieces-parts fit great. I used his motor and trans mounts, AC kit, vital fluids kit, fan, and fuel pump. I used JTR's radiator and headers. I also got my drive shaft from John's. I felt it was a little short and called him. He asked for measurements for what I wanted, built it and sent it out. I removed the old one and returned it to him after the new one showed up. The difference may have been because of the GTO T56 instead of the Camaro/Firebird trans that the kit had been designed for. I also had John re-work my stock tach. Upon start up, I had no needle movement at all. I returned it to them, apparently the LS2 computers are sending a very different signal than any thing else before. It took about 3 weeks but they researched, reworked and sent it back to me. I don't know what they did but checking it out compared to my predator programmer, my stock tach seems to be about 50 rpms off (high) at idle then gets closer as the revs climb. I am totally impressed. With the kit I was able to do the swap from engine pull to first drive in 5 weeks only putting in a few hours here and there- less than 30 total. Sometimes on the phone John and Mike seemed like grumpy old farts but the treated me very well, and I found their products to be top notch. I did have to read the manual a few times for it to make sense. Just my humble opinion. Mike
  12. Yeah, I say that happen to a mustang at an autoX here a few years ago. The guy was using lug nuts behind the wheel for spacers ( too cheap to buy a real spacer) on steel wheels. First corner, goodbye wheel. Did a number on the fender too.
  13. Ya know, I am curious about that too. When I had the carbed L6 I just left the vent tube open in the engine bay. When I put the LS2 in, I got another charcoal canister and hooked it all back up. Seems to be working ok. I don't know why you couldn't still use it with carbs, but I am definately not the expert on this (or anything else).
  14. Looks exactly like mine except I used dual 3" into a the Y into a single 3". I used the Mag bullet, and it looks like the same Mag muffler in the back. It is not exacly silent, but its not too loud. I like the way it sounds when I stand on it. Mike
  15. Ok, I had my doubts, but I tried it. Used the high temp rtv, torqued them. Probably only about 400 miles so far, but no leaks. Oh and the Sanderson's I got are really, really nice. Clean beautiful welds. Just my 2 cents worth. Mike
  16. You guys are "da man". I used my cut off tool, grinder, welder, air tools, etc, and that was just to get stuff ready. Intead of a hammer where the back up switch is, I just used a blunt ended pry bar and just pushed the tunnel a little. Mike
  17. Yep, sometimes don't suck too bad to be old. By the way, I asked, and my collector car insuranse co. waived the mileage restricions. Mike
  18. Check with any independent agent, and if it isn't your only vehicle, check into collector car insurance. Your car is old enough now and they work on stated values. Very inexpensive. Mike
  19. I sold my slightly modified L28 with 5-speed for $750 out of the local paper. Had quite a few calls, first guy with the money got it. Oh, but I did sell it while it was still in the car so he could go for a ride and make sure it ran and shifted ok. Mike
  20. Cool SS, glad she's up and moving under her own power. Mike
  21. Looking good Clive, hope you can't find a little more time to keep it going. Mike
  22. That is right, you should use the lead from vss before it goes into pcm. Mike
  23. Do you have the JCI manual. It would take quite a while to go through it and list each bolt. In some places you have to use the stock LS bolts, some he supplies new bolts. Some are metric, some are SAE. You could probable order a new book from John's, or even maybe a fastener kit. Or maybe you could talk someone one on this site into fax-ing you a copy if you pm'd them.
  24. Ok, start by getting the books from JTR, and looking at the JCI site at brokenkitty.com Then search this site, and search some more. Every swap is different and every one who does a swap wants different results-Street car, race car, drag car, etc. So you pretty much need to build your own list. But whatever you want the JTR book is the first part to buy. I got mine a full year before I bought anything else. And for an LS1, JCI is the only place I know of to get mounts. I used mounts, driveshaft, AC kit from JCI, and headers, radiator from JTR. Hope this helps a little. Mike
