  1. A small block Ford has a better weight ratio. The 5.0 engine has tons of cheap power adders out there. Don't be so qucik to dis Ford. The 5.0 can be a very fun engine. If you want to do the Chevy swap there are places that sell conversion kits. So, if you have basic automotive skills, I would think that you would be able to do it. Give JRT a call, they sell the swap kits and have a manuel on how to do it. Good luck. I was going to do the small block Ford swap but am going turbo for now. Once I get my 240Z running I will look for another Z car to do the small block Ford swap. Jason
  2. I was thinking about building a fuel rail as well. But, I am not really sure how to go about it. I was thinking of buying that $12 a foot fuel rail and drilling and tapping for the fittings and everything. But, I have a few questions. Where do I put the fuel regulator? The stock one bolts to the fuel rail, right? Can I unbolt it and just add it right before the new fuel rail? Or, do I put at the end of the fuel rail right before the return line? These might sound like dumb questions but, I am still learning how to hot rod fuel injected cars. I just want to go to battle with as much info as possible. Thanks, Jason
  3. My engine is from an 82...that means no dropping resistor I guess. That's good! One less part to worry about.
  4. Thanks for the info. I thought there was a dropping resistor. What years of intake did not have an EGR setup? Did all 280Z not have them? Thanks, Jason
  5. 280ZXT engine going into a 240Z and I got a couple of questions. I want to make my own downpipe and was wondering if the metal pipe from the EGR valve to the downpipe is needed? Can I get rid of it? Will this effect performance any? Also, things like the dropping resistor...do I need this? Or will my injectors fry? (I am not sure I have one) It might just be easier to tell me what has to be hooked up, sensor wise. I thought someone put up a list here but, I could not find it. Any info on this guys? Thanks! Jason
  6. Sorry I can't answer any of your questions Alsil. But, I hope everything works out for you. I torn into my 280ZXT engine to find a crack in the head by the timing chain. I was hoping for a quick rebuild but,I need a turbo rebuild as well,so I can see the $$$ starting to add up. You might try picking up a Mustang 5.0 mag. They have lots of crate engines in them. Good luck! Jason
  7. So, with a 5.75 BS and a 1/2 inch spacer...that would be like a 5.25 inch BS? I have a 5 inch BS. Would 245/40 still fit without rolling the fender lip? Also, got any pics? Jason
  8. What size rims are those? And, what is the backspacing? I just got my 17x8 Centerline Pintails with 5 inch Backspacing in, and was wondering what tire size would look good. I will also have coilovers. Thanks, Jason
  9. Has some one been to TOOHIGHPSI.com. Great site on twin turbo fords.
  10. That's a heart warming story. It's great to know that there are still decent people in this world gone crazy. A big to you both. Jason
  11. Hearing all that...he is a real ass. Just build your engine then whoop is ass, on the streets/track or in the classroom...which ever you perfer.
  12. I kinda think he might be an a$$ but, there might be another side to the coin. Sounds like he doesn't have a lot of money. He might be acting the way he is because he sees you throwing away parts that are still good, "in his mind". And he sees it as a waste. I don't know. Maybe he is just an ass? You might try and give him a second chance. You never know...you could find another friend. If he still proves to be an a$$, you can always laugh all the way to the finish line. And him still at the tree with a broken motor.
  13. My first car was a Maverick and I had the same problem with the lights and the heater blower. The light problem was fixed by checking all the grounds and cleaning the rust off of them. I also had to replace a couple of the light sockets. The heater kept blowing fuses because the blower motor was bad and shorting out. I hope this helps you out. Good luck. Oh, my friends old 66 Ford truck is doing the same thing but I think he needs to replace the fuse block in it. Jason
  14. Just wondering...is the 300ZX tranny stronger?
  15. The info in my book didn't say anything about having an overdrive. The book I had covered years 79-83 280ZX. Again, this was taken out of a Haynes Manuel. I have that Turbo tranny in storage. My offer still stands. Thanks, Jason
  16. Cool car but the price is...
  17. Hey Tony, here is all the info I can find about the 280ZX auto tranny. This info comes from a Haynes manuel. Model.............................3N71B Code number Non-Turbo...................... X2707 Turbo............................. X2770 Torque convertor code Non-Turbo...................... G Turbo............................. A Small torque ratio............ 2.0:1 Gear ratios 1st.................................. 2.458 2nd................................. 1.458 3rd.................................. 1.000 Reverse........................... 2.182 Seems like the gear ratios are the same but the torque convertors are different. The trannys have a different code number as well. My thoughts are; the Turbo auto tranny might have slighty stronger parts in it or different shift points. Since it has a differnt code for the convertor I would think that it has a slightly higher stall to it. If this is true, then I think that Nissan would have, beefed some of the internals up. Higher stall would make for a harder engagement of the tranny. So, I would think that the drum clutch packs and carrier bearings would be stronger than a non-turbo model. Might be other small changes as well. I know something about auto trannys...I rebuilt and tested Chrysler automatic trannys for a while. But, I am not 100% sure of the differences in Nissan trannys. I hope this helps some.
  18. Those are some beefy tires Dan. I ordered some 17 inch Pintails from Centerline. I want to put 245/50s on them. I think thats about as big as I can go. Thanks for all the info. about the sump. As soon as I can come up with the cash or the parts he needs I'll get it. I have so many other Z parts I need to get. The upgraded turbo is next. Lots of money going into this car, but I know it will be worth it.
  19. So, if I can come up with a M-bar that is from any 280Z that has a R200 in it, you'll trade me for a sump straight across. I have one but am going to use it myself. I can get another one maybe. I'll have to check my sources and see if I can get another one. You are talking about just the rear bar that goes behind the diff right? I want to make sure I get the right part. There was a list of years and car models that had R200s in them...do you know which 280Z cars had R200s in them and what years. I think the 80-83 5 speeds all had them. Do you know for sure? I know where some auto cars are, I am jsut not sure they had R200s
  20. I have lots of extra 240Z and 260Z parts. I might even have a few things from a 280ZXT. I got an extra AMF and some other engine parts. I got some S.U. carbs laying around. What do you mean buy an M-bar? I also have an extra cross member laying around. Lots of stuff. Also, I got another question. If I do not want to put all the extra hoses and that metal vent tank back into the car that come off the gas tank...can I just add like a roll over vent valve on to the stock gas tank?
  21. When I am ready for the sump I'll get ahold of you. Does the $60 include shipping? Thanks, Jason
