  1. You might want to post an ad in the classified section, and if you haven't already, search/post want ad in the zcar.com forums as well.
  2. Go to http://carfiche.com/manuals023/cars/ and download the applicable factory service manual - that will tell you in excruciating detail the correct way to do it:wc:, and what parts (if any) are not reusable etc. (If your manual is not available, just refresh in an hour and check again. )
  3. Exciting stuff! If you can, post a video of it running when you're done!
  4. Take a look at this post, it should give you an idea of what's involved. (not necessarily 100% of everything involved, but if this list doesn't scare you off then you might be the right guy for the job) http://forums.hybridz.org/showpost.php?p=812334&postcount=10
  5. You are right - If placed correctly, the vent will be in a low pressure zone, and therefore allow a good stream of air to flow through your heat exchangers.
  6. I didn't see this link posted, so here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_SR20DET Wikepedia article on the SR20DET, should answer a few questions.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a scam - my friend saw a similar ad for a whole supra, also curiously priced at 5500; I emailed for info but all I got were some amusing stories. If it's legit, then great, but don't be surprised if you hear "I'm in x but if you send payment to y then I'll ship the item from z".
  8. I love the videos - much more entertaining than whatever junk is on the 88 channels of nothing.
  9. So it is running the stock ECU then, without any piggyback system or anything? If that is the case, you are leaving a lot of performance and fuel economy on the table. 13 seconds on google: http://www.amsperformance.com/store/index.php?cPath=24_61_178 That'll fix you up. Or you can get a cheaper piggyback fuel management system, but for a little more you get the good stuff. Don't forget to have it tuned properly though.
  10. Wow I'm glad you said that, Bleach. My wife and I were thinking about moving to Seattle area. I had no idea that it was so expensive. Cost of living? more like cost of breathing! Michigan economy is down right now, but at least things are cheap!
  11. I had the same problem when I moved recently, but all I had to do was check the local craigslist, I got a great space to work in for $50/month. 1.5 stall garage, power, new roof so it doesn't leak, and the landlord is a great guy. (in fact I have done some maintenance tasks for him and made a little beer money on the side. )
  12. If it was truly "Wife vs. GTR" then I would be drawing up divorce papers. Fortunately my wife does not care what I do in regards to cars as long as the bills are paid.
  13. But really, how many people are trying to choose between a camaro of that vintage and a Z? If you're researching this swap you probably already have made your choice. Also, Decent looking? I think the Z car is more than decent looking.
  14. I could see how the swap could easily range much higher in cost, depending on your sources and desired power, but this is a GREAT starting point for those considering the swap and thinking it can be done for some insane price like $1500. (I've had people tell me it should cost that, and I told them to get their head checked.) It looks like you've included most if not all the items in your list, so if we want to check prices on things ourselves, we can easily calculate the cost. Great Work!
  15. Please update with attachment, I am interested to see the numbers!
  16. I think this would be a cool project, but not on a Z car. I personally would be more impressed with mirrors installed out on the fenders JDM/Wangan midnight-style. I don't think that that sort of tech touch would fit in with the Z atmosphere. If you do decide to go ahead with it, it might be a little pricey - High contrast LCDs with brightness sufficient to be used in bright sunlight are going to be expensive, and there is the problem of where to mount them. (small A-pillars=no room?) You also have to consider where to mount the cameras, which will be expensive for your requirements. (Glare filters, good resolution, good color sensitivity, fast framerate, etc.) Not trying to discourage your ideas, just trying to offer some perspective. If you decide to go ahead with the project, keep us updated. Cheers!
  17. Wow - that would be great if we can order direct, even if we have to do a group buy. Let us know what you find out!
  18. Thanks carfan - that's exactly what I was gonna show him.
  19. Well I stand corrected - this is good to know. I've seen a few NA cars converted to turbo that straight up would not work with the NA engine management. Thanks for updating it with the AFM fix - glad to hear it's working now!
  20. Just to clarify - the car was an NA car. The motor now is rebuilt, and has a turbo attached to it. The ECU controlling everything is the original unmodified NA ECU. Is all this correct? If so, you need to switch to the turbo ECU or get the MS hooked up and configured before you can expect it to work.
  21. All good things to have - DO NOT pull an engine without a load balancer. (I found this out the hard way ) Also, with those ratcheting wrenches - buy them locally if you can; I had to try 4 of the 5 styles available from sears before I found the ones that didn't suck. It's hard to explain why some aren't that good, but try a set in a tight space and you'll find out how good they are.
  22. I can't remember what that color means, but if you have a chilton manual usually in the center there are a few color pages that show all of the different plug conditions. I will check mine when I get home and post it.
  23. Do you need a 9000 page factory service manual, or a haynes manual? If you need somthing more like the haynes manual, go here: http://arrc.epnet.com/autoasp/index.asp?sid=30212596&uid=s5524901.main.autorefctr log in with "user" and "password", then scroll down to the auto repair reference center. It's got almost every make and model so you should be covered. A tip for using the resources offline: Find the section that you need, and use the print option on the page; then send to PDF instead of to the printer. then you can keep a copy on your laptop, etc. hope that helps, pm me or reply here if you need anything else.
  24. WELL. You hope it goes well. But yes, they look like they know what they are doing, so I'm sure it will. How could they fail when they have... THE MIGHT AND POWER OF HYBRIDZ AT THEIR BACKS! HAHA keep it up, and I'm lovin the regular updates.
