  1. Ok, I called around all afternoon yesterday to a few z shops and this is what i found out. There is no real danger of running a solid pulley. There is no magical vibration that would destroy the crank. The 2 guys at one shop i spoke to told me they have run race cars for years with solid pulleys. They never had anything happen to the engine and it still purrs even when they turn it on nowadays. Then i think to myself. What possibly can a tiny strip of rubber going to do to a vibration that could destroy your engine?!?!?!?! If there was real danger of this happening, im pretty sure Nissan would have went different lengths to handle this problem instead of using a petty peice of rubber. Anyway, the only vibration i see hurting anything it the vibration of the crank going to the water pump and alternator. Even the rubber belt would absorb most of that. Ive been thinking about this for 3 days now, and very hard on top of that and i dont see any way and any PROOF that running a soild, balanced pulley, 2 groove or 3 groove, would do ANYTHING to harm your engine.
  2. Jeff, Ok from what i read is that you guys are also having problems spinning the crank pulley. All of you also have much much more hp than i do. I have a stock engine in that new 280zx i got and it runs perfect and i choose to keep it that way. The pulley went south so i studded it. Does HP play a role in how bad the vibration on the crankshaft is? Since you guys have more hp, would it be worse in your engines than mine if i run a solid pulley? Thanks
  3. Where the hell else am i gonna put them in a 280zx that will provide sound directly pointed towards your head and not some half assed location like down by your leg in the door, and look awesome at the same time?
  4. Ok guys, you all got the greenlight to do the drill and stud thing on the outer water pump pulley. I drilled 4 holes like a cross and pounded some studs in there and then grinded them off. The car runs great!!!!!! I did this after i lost the pulley on the new z i got 2 days ago.
  5. Im building small tweeter and 3 1/2 mid pillar pods for my 280zx. The tweeter will sit halfway up and the 3 1/2 will sit in the pillar pod right down by the dash. They will look like boost gauges, etc. I have to figure out what material im gonna use. The speakers will be on both sides.

  7. Ive been spending all weekend swapping parts from my black 280zx into this one. That includes the KYB's, rebuilt brake system, tailights, my Autopal headlights, etc. And the crankshaft pully went out yesterday, go figure LOL. Im just going to take it easy getting to know her and make sure she is running right. The fiberglass makes me nervous as heck, and i havent even taken her over 75. I dont think i will
  8. and this will make #4, and the best one yet. The other z's are going away hopefully this weekend so i can focus on this baby!

  15. Ok this is the first time i have done the shopping since we moved in together. I went this morning at 10am. She went to work at 8, and i had off today. So i bought frozen burritos, some ham, cheese, bread, all kids of stuff to make sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, some slabs of meat, sodas, juice, some milk, and a few other essentials Ok she comes home and sees what i bought and very calmly suggests that i agree to let her do the shopping for now on. Guys, what did i do wrong??? Isnt all to life just a few steaks, big glass of your favorite drink, and a few sandwiches every now and then?
  16. Fel Pros are great. Mine see 6k rpm easily on a regular basis. Probably the only gasket id use. And ummmm, if you guys have problems with the head gaskets leaking after install, its probably better to use your brains and bring that head in to the parts store while purchasing the gasket. If the gasket ends up leaking, blame it on mechanic error. Get the right gasket guys.
  17. Ok what about Lazorlite head gaskets? I have one hanging on the wall.
  18. Yesterday (sunday) I was on the way home from taking the lady to work. Right outside of her job, i stop at a red light. A little civic pulls up. My Z idles loud, so this kid revs me. The light turns green and we are inching across the intersection to see if the other one jumps. He starts taking off fast right in the middle of the intersection. i took off after him and trailed right behind him. We hit the freeway onramp and took the curves and sped on to the freeway. I was tailgating him at about 100 then i downshifted to 4th and gunned it. I pulled ahead of him and his car was screaming. I backed off at over 125+ because i was way ahead of this kid. I hit my exit and pull off and he pulls off too. At the stop sign it splits into 2 lanes. One turns left and one turns right. He asks "whats in there?", and i say "its pretty near stock". He starts pulling away and yells "your car is still a peice of s-h-i-t!!!!". O well, if you cant earn their respect, JUST SMOKE THE SHIZZLE OUT OF THEM!!!
  19. You can gain leverage on the caliper bracket with a screwdriver enough to turn it a few mm's at least. Just do that a lot and you will turn it in eventually. Be careful with the rubber seal on the piston.
  20. Ok im David Karey from the old format. This is just too weird for me. I miss the old layout. Maybe we can all post here so we know who is who. BTW i think the zone silver template is the best. If you wanna change the way the forum looks, go into your profile and change the template. Just FYI for those who do not know. Honestly, i feel the old layout was better for Hybrid. The server IS faster now
  21. I have red inserts in my Autopal headlights. I think Dave G has seen them. Owen, i fear these moments......... to you http://www.v8zcar.com/s30z/mys30z-sgauges12.jpg
  22. All you need to do is rotate the piston back into the caliper and the pads shoud slide right in. On the back of the pads, there will be a stump that needs to slide into the slot on the piston. You will see what im talking about when you look at the piston. Screw the piston in, clockwise, line up the slots to accept pads, slide the pads in, and put the pins in. You dont need to remove the caliper bracket unless you are removing the caliper itself. good luck
