im going to paint my 83 zx with t-tops. the last time i did it 10yrs ago i knew that when i took the weather stripping off a second time that i may have no choice but to replace them. the weather stripping that attaches to the body and runs from the doors all around the t-tops is not available, new or used (that i have found). was wondering if anyone has came up with a solution for this? maybe universal something? its a pretty unique piece. i hope there is someone that has figured this out, i obviously cant just throw the car away cause i cant find weather stripping. thanks for any help.

that would get you more travel, you will just start running into camber and toe-in issues. as the car squats it pulls the tire forward in the wheel well and cambers in real bad and toes-in as well. if your going for that "stance" look then your ok but for performance our 280zx's are just not made for too much lowering. also the half shafts hit the bottom of the car eventually. everything i have stated can be fixed with alot of work though. you could make clearence for the half shafts but the hardest mod i havnt came up with an easy solution for yet is raising the mounting point of the control arms so it thinks the lowered height is the stock ride height, and while your there move the mounting point rearward so the wheel is in the center of the wheel well. please do fix all this so i can do what you did

i agree, it would be a nice touch. dont think there is one made for ours.

nobody makes anything for a s130!!! (ok maybe there is somethings but nothing compared to a s30) you might be able to modify it to work if your into that kind of stuff ,but i love the stock zx hood.

i would be interested too if this is still going on!?!? -
looking good as always. like what you are doing with the radiator. here are couple pics of were my motor sits.i basically put it an inch or 2 from the fire wall.... keep going, mayb by next spring you'll have one badass s130.

i gutted the heater out, so i put the pcm on the tranny tunnel where heater and all that was. and pass fire wall for relays and fuses also

im very happy with my setup. no major trimming or mods, or no fender flares.to get a 17in rim, 4 lug with 0-offset is pretty hard. i had mine custom made by Boze wheels. you can go that route, or you could do a 16 in rim with a 50 series side wall (there is some options for 16in rims) or i have seen there is now a 5 lug conversion for s130 (more options for 5 lug 0-offset rims) from techno toy tuning or arizona z car i think has it. if your doing the whole Ls swap i would get stronger stub axles from modern motorsport with the 5 lug. all depends on how crazy you wanna get. a small block chevy is the easiest swap. it will be great at the drag strip but not too great for roadcoarse stuff. if you wanna do the Ls swap, its alot of work but there is a thread i started in the V8,Genlll & lv section called 280zx's with Ls swaps. that"ll give you an idea on what to do. PM me any other specific questions if you like on the swap.

i run 17x7 with 225/45/17 and 17x8 with 235/45/17, 0-offset on both. i have 400whp and the rear likes to squat so i actually had to trim the front of the wheel well cause the tire pulls fwd as it squats. i have plenty of traction with only 235"s on the rear. and i like having a 45 side wall cause it gives the tire a lil flex for launching, instead of a real lo profile tire that wont give good traction for taking off. i hear and see of people doing wider rims and tires but i dont know how they are not rubbing when hitting bumps or when the suspension travels alot.

Down force weight on jtr trans mount
G-Tech replied to grillhands's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i worried about that too. my 280zx had some tranny tunnel reinforcement but didnt feel that did too much. so i added some 1/4in thick steel plate to the floor. had it welded to that tranny support, then welded it to the frame rail. that gave me some great rigidity and i no longer worried about it. not a great pic cause they are painted black already in this pic and they blend in with the bottom of the car. -
nice ride slownrusty, ive been seeing that on this sight for a long time now. love what you have done to it. just gotta figure out that front end. here is mine. been in my family since new. was originally blue. there isnt a thing untouched at this point. been wrenching on it since 2004 and it hasnt stopped yet.i built it to use it.

good luck. i know when i talked to Joe he was pretty good to deal with.

No, checkered flag (which is modern motorsports) and whitehead have the same supplier. i went threw all this with my stubaxles....your going to have to wait or say im not waiting, but then you get nothing. unless you can find a completely different source.

i have had experience with them. i ordered stub axles that were supposed to be 4-6 weeks, ended up being over 6 months. i did end up getting them. couldn't always get ahold of them but they were "ok" to deal with on the phone. they have they're stub axles made from someone else and i guess that manufacturer was the reason for the delay i was told.....definitely not the quickest people but i did get my parts and have been happy with them. that was my experience.

looking for a good set of weather stripping for a 280zx t-top car. i really need the pieces that mount to the car and go all the way up and around the t-top. i wouldnt mind also if someone has the weather stripping that goes on the doors. please let me know if you have or know where to get something. i know of a few places that have them for the older z's but the 280zx ( s130) is not as common. thank you

zcar is definatly the better place for stock cars. you wont get your money out of it if you mod it plus you wont wanna sell when you just put alot of work in it....280zx turbo"s are getting harder to find in original shape. if you can aford to be patient you"ll find the right buyer
