  1. The chassis is tacked together and the rear engine mounts are fabricated and in place. Tomorrow the cross braces and gusseting for stiffness. I'll get better pics when it gets on its tires and can be pushed outside
  2. Does anyone know if there is any kind of quick connect brake line fittings? I'm finally getting close to fitting the body onto the chassis. I should be able to lift it on and off disconnecting six mount bolts, a couple of cables, the fuel line and one major electrical plug for the front chassis electrical. The only major problem is unhooking the brake lines from the master cylinders without having to bleed the system when the body is put back in place. I know hydraulic lines can be unhooked with a fitting that seals both lines, but I have no idea where to find them for 1/4" lines. Any help will be really apreciated. Thanx, Joe
  3. The best speed I managed was 108 in '78 Kenworth in 1985. Verified by a nice man in a Wyoming highway patrol car. Don't even ask how much that little bit of stupidity cost.
  4. I don't know if it is soul, but my car certainly has periods of having a really bad attitude.
  5. Is this the stuff that they used on Billy Gibbons' wifes caddy?
  6. That is one ugly car, but you gotta admire the craftsmanship. Just seems a shame to put that much work into a project and have it come out looking like that. He should have talked to someone who had some taste.
  7. From all I have read on here, the r200 rear end will handle your swap unless you get extreme with the 455. I had the stock rearend in my Z31 sbc, and it never gave me any problems. The rear suspension would squat more than I cared for though. This is just my opinion, and, of course now I'm running a Dana 44.
  8. No wonder the plate is hidden.
  9. The Z belongs to Scotty. The blond girl who does fabrication
  10. When I lived in Tulsa, one of the guys I worked with was bitten by a brown recluse spider. They ended up having to amputate his leg. The worst thing I ever got was stung by a centipede. I really liked Oklahoma but it seemed that all the animals and insects are out to get you. Its much nicer here, all we have to worry about are a few snakes, and the occasional bear or mountain lion.
  11. Have a good time, its something y ou'll never froget. I haven't been since the 50th anniversary in 1990. Too many motorhomes for me I guess.
  12. I would guess that the silver color in the spare tire well is probably just from the tire scuffing.
  13. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, or perhapsI used a wrong analogy. What I meant was not specific differences. What I meant was that the Z31 and the 928 are both larger and more luxurious designs and were aimed at a different market than the 911 and earlier Zs. That is just my opinion. As for the bugatti, I wouldn't want to comment. if I had that much mo9ney to spare, I'd be out looking for a nice used 917-30, and go nostalgia racing!
  14. The Z31 is heaver than the earlier Zs. The Z31 is a Gran Touring car while 240s are a sports car. Kind of like comparing a 928 Porsche to a 911. (Just my two Franlklin Mint knock off cents)
  15. Here is what I did but the car is still in a bunch of pieces so It hasn't been weighed. I'll prob gain most of the weight back because that rear end is heavy! The headlight mechinisms weigh about 25lbs, the bumpers can be removed from under the covers and no one will ever know they're gone except the person in the car when it hits that tree. You can remove a lot of the bracing from the hood. Losing the jack and the fiber box that it's in will help too. Dump the power antenae. IO striped about 5lbs of redundant wiring harnes (Not recomemded MAJOR PITA!!!!) And you could cut out the steel floor and firewall and replace them with aluminium. Of course that will weaken the car, so do this. Sorry these aren't current pics of the chassis but I've been doing other things.
  16. Perfect Circle rings have been around forever. They were a good product when I used to use them, though that was quite a while back.
  17. All that work and he still ends up with a Honda Motorscooter. Its gonna be wierd tiurning right without the engine hitting the pavement.
  18. I love my Z31, But have one Qusetion: If everyone likes these cars so much why is it nearly impossible to get aftermarket parts for them?????
  19. Just one more reason for a chicken (or any of its relatives) not to cross the road.
  20. Congratulations!!!!!!!! Here is what I have learned during two years of retirement: If you have a wife, a house and a Z, you don't have to worry about what you will be doing with your time.
  21. The Jag I-6 is almost as heave as a sbc. Not only that but parts are really expensive.
  22. I moved the filler to the rear on my Z31. I would change the angle of the neck on the fuel cell so that it is more vertical. I used the stock fuel tank and and filler neck from the car and angled it up about 45 degrees and haven't had any problems with fuel coming out the filler, and My car had a major squat under acceleration. On a lighter side, I never have to remember which side the filler is on.
  23. Actually, the suspension is all Jaguar (no semi trailing arms) I don't think the camber will go negative. I really don't want to get rid of the wheels. They're Dayton True spokes and it would be a major PITA to find a set with a different offset, not to mention they would cost a $**t load replace.
  24. I did some measuring on theZ31. It seems that the Jag suspension and wheels are about a half inch wider than the widest part of the body. That means that the tires are going to stick out about a quarter of an inch past the stock wheel flares. Nobody makes wide body kits for a 300zx that I am aware of, so I am in a quandery as to what to do. I don't care for ZG flares and I'm getting really tired of cutting and welding on the car. I need some way to get the tires inside the fenders at least a half inch or so. Any suggestions will be greatly appreaciated. Thanx
