  1. Where I live, if they catch you without insurance they take your car and you don't get it back.
  2. Hey, can't you see it? I mean it does have four tires. and they are positioned one at each corner. Just like a gt40 (or an American Flyer wagon)
  3. I'd take it to my bank and ask them to see if it will clear. if it does, then gop from there
  4. I've seen a few of them too. IMHO, I think they are as stupid looking on a truck as they are on a car.
  5. I used to own a '78 Kenworth with a KTA 600 in it. It was a good running oled truck and with a "4 button" in the pump it made about 750 hp at the flywheel. It had a real double over (5spd overdrive main box and a 4 speed overdrive brownie). That truck would pull a 6% grade at 53 mph grossing 80 grand, and pass anything but a fuel stop. Unfortunatly you can't make a living any more with q truck that only gets 3 1/2 mpg:( My current Pete has a 600 cat, but it ain't in the same league as the old KW. Here is a pic of Diesel Darlene, the lavender Peterbilt.
  6. Gawd, I don't even want to look at that car. It makes me want to drool, and at my age I could get put away for drooling:) To say that is a of beauty would be a gross understatement. Its the best I've ever seen!
  7. Great, another Hybrid Z31! Nice looking installation. I especially like the laughing gas. How does it run? Tell your friend to get over his computer phobia and let us know more about his ride.
  8. As long as the Z31 is spread all over southern Oegon, I figure I will rip out a lot of the wiring that I won't be using. (things like the security system, headlight motors, Cruise control, power antena) I've pulled about 5 lbs of wire out of it so far. I don't know about the earlier Zs but on the Z31, anyplace there is a tiny bit of space our friends from the land of the rising sun have hidden relays, sensors, diodes and other things that no has ever seen before. Under the kick panel on the passenger side is a black box with a million or so wires plugged into it. the sticker on the side says Time Controller. I have no idea about removing the Time Control Box. It is connected to everything in the car. Does anyone have a clue what it does? Thanx Joe
  9. Here a few pics of my install. I'm changing computers and can't locate the rest of the pics. I am in the process of building a tubular chassis, and will post more as it gets done. 1 The engine 2 The car with the V6 3 This is the only really tight spot between the steering rack and exhaust 4 The mounts I fabbed. (right one shown) 5 Exhaust system 6 Jag rear end (Work still in progress) 7 Detail of firewall after session with the plasma cutter
  10. For what its worth, I am answering a four year old post. I just type really slow!! I get a little tired of hearing that it is a hard swap. I don't know squat about earlier Zs so I try not to talk about them. But since it seems that Alf and I are the only ones who have actually done a Z31 one of us should pass along what we have learned first hand. When you get all the Datsun crap out from under the hood, there is enough room for a big block. The hood will clear an air cleaner, but not tall injector stacks or a tall magneto.
  11. It is a little tight under the hood, and around the steering, but it ain't hard to do. Actually once you get the nissan stuff out of the way, I think there is more room than in any of the earlier Zs. If you use shortie headers that dump at the rear you can get around the exhaust clearence issue. I fabricated front mounts and you'll have to mod the rear cross member depending on what you use for a tranny.
  12. You guys are so picky! Of course he is at Fry's, after all that custom work and his great choice of wheels, he has to buy a major sound system in order to try and blast the trunk open
  13. The biggest thing I see is the right side damage, but then I hate body work. Of course being a Z31 you probably wouldn't have to spend half your life trying to get rid of rust. I don't think its too bad a deal. I'd trade you the front and rear cross members to put a 350 in it for the side skirts.
  14. I've been running one of those for a while, the only thing wrong that I've found is that I keep getting fake leaks on my immitation vynal seats
  15. I go rid of my unreliable cable service and the only time I can get on the net is when I am on the road. Thw z31 is coming along really slow. I've finished rebuilding the xj40 front suspension, and soon as I get home I'll finish up the rear end. I found an xj12 with a DANA 44 LTD. The car is once agained stripped to the bare bones and we are starting fabrication of the tubular chassis. I'll post a bunch of pictures of the chassis fabrication if anybody is interested. I just don't know when I'll be back online.
  16. Mom's Z I have found through long and betterexperience that there are very few situtions where it doesn't apply.
  17. I moved the filler on my Z31. I got the plate hinge from the local jy don't recall what it was on. The tank filler unbolted from the sede of the tank, so I just fabbed a plate to bolt on over the old filler hole. welded mthe gas door in the side of the car, had the tank boiled out at a local readiator shop then welded a filler neck into the top of the tank. It wasn't that hard, and it makes the people who pump gas crazy I have pics but have no way to post them, and the car is once again spread all over the garage.
  18. I have a small block 350 in my '84, and it runs like a sexually assualted gorilla. There is ton of room in the engine compartment so it isn't a real hard swap, though there isn't a lot of clearance between the hood and air cleaner. The only major clearance problem I encountered was the exhaust header and the steering rack. You'll need to fabricate front mounts and modify the rear cross member. there are pics of the installation im my gallery. I will post some pics of the front cross member when I get it out in a couple of weeks. (going to Jaguar suspension) I'll try to answer any questions that I can.
  19. Once again the engine and trany are coming out of the Z31. I just got the bushings for the rebuild on my XJ40 suspension. The struts and crossmember are history, and I'll be loosing the strut towers in the fender wells. I've been kicking the idea of a tilt front end, with stainless inner panels. The motor is going to be mounted with an engine plate to help stiffen the chassis, while a new cross member will go in the back. We3 are still deciding whether of not to move the firewall back a couple inches and replacing it with light guage stainless steel. (Us unsophisticated types likes shiny things) In tyhe rear, I'm building a sort of backhalf subframe to mount the rear suspension. The rear end is out of the same xj6, and is a limited slip dana 44, in the Salisbury housing. (I wanted to build it as a quick change, but you have to draw the line someplace) I have a full new set of Brembo brakes sitting in the garage to be installed as I do the suspension. If anyone is interested I shoould have all the stuff from the under the car in a month or so and would like to sell it for a good price. I'll make a list as I pull it out and see what shape it's in.
  20. Way back in the far and distant past, there was a car called the Scarab. It was pre Z, and was built in the early '60s by Lance Reventlow. That scarab was in apperance closer to a Shelby Cobra than a Z, although it predated the Shelby by several years. Lance, however didn't die in a crash of his Scarab, but in a plane crash in Colorado.
  21. I knew that I could count on you guys. Terry the opperative work is "crude"
  22. Does anyone know where I can find a scale model of a Z31? I would like to get one that is abou 1:24 scale for some crude wind tunnel tests. I've looked all over and haven't found one. I don't even know if anyone even makes them. Thanks, Joe
  23. I bought my blockhuggers from Thermo Tech. They work well with my L-98 angle plug heads. Not only that but they were pretty inexpensive, and the quality is good. http://www.thermaltechcoatings.com/prod02.htm
