  1. Apparently it was pulled from NBC and now they're shopping around for another network: http://www.topgear.com/us/blog/more/bbc-passes-on-the-peacock-for-u.s.-top-gear-tv-show/ http://jalopnik.com/5108040/nbc-cuts-top-gear-usa-due-to-knight-rider-failure/
  2. "Some say he is scared of ducks" How many times has he been 'outed' so far? Everyone's got their own guess as to his identity.
  3. Does the distributor for the L28 motor have something akin to an E12-80 unit on the side of it? If so you only need to run those two wires to appropriate places and you should be good to go. Here are a couple of links that show how to wire this kind of distributor. For carb equipped cars: http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/ For early EFI equipped cars: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/index.html The links are more oriented to Z cars so chances are it might not apply to your R30, but if it is the E12-80 type I think you should be able to figure it out.
  4. I tried it yesterday too, link doesn't work.
  5. My folks have a pair of miniature dachshunds. They're lightweight (if you don't feed them too much), pretty easy going and the fur on the shorthair models is hardly noticeable, more like eyelashes. Plus, everyone wants to come pet them anytime you go out in public with them.
  6. Standard procedure is to buy the book "How to Rebuild Your Nissan & Datsun OHC Engine" by Tom Monroe. Read that through once or twice then buy all the parts you need and put 'er together.
  7. I hadn't ever heard of one until they were featured in Hemmings Sport and Exotic Cars a few months back. Well, if I ever do see one I'll know where to report it to.
  8. Four cylinder is a given with the trucks. Is it an '82 720 pickup with a Z22E engine? I personally haven't researched the truck transmissions yet. You might have more luck on ratsun.com They have a whole section dedicated to the trucks (620, 720, etc)
  9. Noodle, read this thread, especially post #12: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=133554
  10. There are four different E88's. Looks like buzznhalf has the 44.7cc open chambered E88.
  11. Perhaps we could have a sign displaying "Number of days since last discussion sent to the shed" like a "days since last accident" plaque.
  12. 280Z then, sorry to hear about the case of mistaken (or fradulent) identity. I feel for you a bit because I bought my Z with a front sump L24E. At the time I didn't know how to tell the difference externally, and the seller didn't divulge anything.
  13. I had that exact header at one point. It had a nice thick header flange and I sold it to one of our members here. As a side note, it would probably flow better with a less restrictive y-pipe on it. It funnels two good sized pipes down to one 2" opening.
  14. Are you just looking for cars in different lighting conditions? Because zhome.com has a pretty good library of colors already. http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html
  15. Did some researching, and a lot of what you have looks like standard U20 stuff. From the FSM: U20 1982cc I-4 5 Main Bearing Crankshaft Engine Bore = 87.2mm Piston Wristpin Diameter = 22mm Engine Stroke = 83mm Crank Journal Diameter = 62.942mm – 62.955mm Crank Pin Diameter = 51.941mm - 51.954mm Rod length = 144mm Here are some screen captures of the FSM itself: Connecting Rod One piece oil ring Factory notched cylinder bores Here's a chart that shows oversized piston options including 88mm You might get more help over at 311s.org
  16. Nice 2+2 datsunstef. Do you ever get any double takes with the 432 emblem? If you fix those links then everyone will be able to see it.
  17. Every Pick-A-Part and scrapyard cut the cats first thing. They get recycled for the small amounts of precious metals they contain like platinum. That's why you see news stories about people having the catalytic converters stolen from their SUV's. I'm not sure if they'll physically look under your vehicle to see if you have a muffler and a catalytic converter. Every state is different, and have different laws regarding NOx and CO2 emissions. You'll probably need the cat (and have it nice and hot) to help you pass smog. Check out howstuffworks.com or wikipedia to find out what a catalytic converter does to the exhaust gases as they pass through it and you'll understand why they are equipped to modern vehicles.
  18. I don't have any problem seeing the pictures. So you're saying your rods have 142mm center to center length, not 145.9? I thought you were referring to them the other way around, so I mentioned the Early Z22 rod because its supposed center to center is 145.9mm. The L20B rod is right in the same boat too. Now I have to troll around and find a rod that fits your measurements. Hmmmm..... Haven't played with any R or U series engines yet. Just as an update to your list of rod lengths, to fill in the gaps with some you didn't have: L series rods alone have center to center lengths of 130.35, 133, 135, 136.6, 138.5, 140, and 146mm, plus two that I haven't tracked down yet. Also, the late L20aE, late L24E, and late L20ET rods had smaller rod journals than the rest.
  19. Yeah, with those ratios it's a plain jane non-US 5 speed. Not sure what they're worth unless you're restoring a Fairlady Z or you have nostalgia, especially as parts for the 'A' style transmissions are tougher to come by.
  20. Turbo Tom Kit? Wait, those have Turbo Tom cast into the intake. I have a picture of the setup you're describing with the finned intake that says "turbo Z" on my hard drive, but no description attached.
  21. It seems to me that most likely this transmission is either: FS5C71-A: Fairlady Z (Long tail) Or it's one of these and has been adapted for use on the L Series engine: FS5C71-A: 2000 Sports AKA Fairlady Roadster (Short tail) F5C71-A: Nissan Competition Option 1 or Option 2 gearbox That doesn't mean that it isn't out of something else entirely though (like a C10 Skyline). Like has already been suggested twice, check the gear ratios. That's the only way you will be able to tell which it is. The other day I re-edited my last post to include the 5th gear ratios of each of these transmissions. Info is a little scarce for these transmissions, but it seems they all came with a 0.852 5th gear. Here's a good page I found with many Nissan transmission gear ratios available. http://www.gracieland.org/cars/techtalk/gearing2.html That's the best guess I have on what this transmission could be. soullessjdog will have to provide some more info before I could make any more educated guesses about his mystery gearbox.
  22. I've seen the blue 280Z from the 11/23/04 photo. It was being driven around terminal 2 at Phoenix International Airport about a year ago.
  23. It could still very well be a Roadster transmission. Even though they were shorter and had a different bellhousing, the tailshaft, tailhousing and bellhousing could be ordered from Nissan and swapped to make it work in the S30 chassis. Post # 52 on this page has info copied from zhome.com that shows all of the part numbers needed for this swap. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=103512&page=3 I'm hoping perhaps Tony D can chime in (they don't call him wiki for nothing), because I don't know much about the roadster transmissions, but it seems they had their own range of 'A' type Options gearboxes and/or gearsets. -edit- FS5C71-A transmissions; found on 2000 Sports roadsters had 0.852 5th gear -edit- -edit- F5C71-A transmissions; both Option 1 and 2 had a 0.852 5th gear. -edit- From some quick research it looks like the dogleg Z car '77-'83 options 'boxes are F5C71-B, or 'B' type, so your transmission wouldn't be one of them. Do you happen to know the rear end ratio in your car?
