  1. I'll have to look up the tooth number again but it's over 100 like 132 i think. We are trying to run coil on plug on it also... I'll have to see if that's going to work out or not. I was trying to run MSnSE code on it, but I'll have to do some more research now. Yeah, debugging one is bad enough, especially when it used to run and now it doesn't... GRR. at anyrate... This will be a project in the very near future... 89 911 with MS
  2. I'll write down the wiring tonight as i can't remember off the top of my head. However, last night before i left, I did change out the pickup to the one from my 78, gave it a much cleaner signal. Z-Ya... that's the funny part... I was starting and trying to work out idle... now i can't even get her to fire. Just a backfire from all the fuel sitting in the pipe lol. If i can't get this HEI to work, i'm going to go straight to the board and re-wire the PCB for the VR circuit. But I would rather get this working as it's already wired for this. I'm stopping by tonight on my way home from work, I'll write down the wiring and what not. -Ed
  3. square wave i believe, they are magnetic pickups off the flywheel.
  4. update... tried what you said... fixed timing at 15... put my trigger angle at70 crank... 15 on the crank. change it to 90 try again... 15 on the crank, change it to 50 try again... 15 on the crank. I change my wires from my dizzy and flip flop them to the HEI module. try again... -20 at the crank no matter what trigger angle i set. of course moving the dizzy changes the timing, but i can't change it using MS. I put a scope on my dizzy... i get really weak waves at about 50mV and it's so sensitive that low that if i just put my thumb on the dizzy I get waves just from my body. I pulled the dizzy out of a maxima... tested it... same thing... 50mV very sensitive but defn' a stronger wave, although two different animals, maxima dizzy is an optical. I believe like the ZX with the wheel inside of it. At anyrate heat index is like 104 still and i'm sweating my ass off outside. I'm very frustrated mad and considering using a different trigger method as this is obviously not working. -Ed
  5. This is really bothering me and I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. I'm going to grabe my oscilliscope and hook it up to my dizzy and see what kind of signal I'm getting from my VR sensor. Quick review.. MS1 pcb3.0 with 024s9 MSnSE code. with HEI 8pin ignition module (cause i thought it would be quick and easy to get it running that way HAHA!) I was in the process of trying to "phase in" i guess you would call it my dizzy. I was using a remote trigger to crank my car over and holding a timing light so i could easily watch the mark. This is when i made my discovery. I just read something though... your comment on the fixed timing at 15.. mine was still at -10 so it was reading the table which i had filled with 0's to try and find out what was throwing my timing. When I go back over I'll try this again. So much presure and stress to get this car running... what a day.
  6. Ok so i discovered a big problem today. My timing does not change as i change my trigger number. when it was at 90 and i moved it to 60 it moved about 10 deg then after that 20,40,50 it stayed in the exact same spot. So i inverted my dizzy pickup wires, it put the timing spot on at 15 but once again changed the trigger angle, nothing changed. I'm really irritated and mad and about to scrap the project so i'm walking way and going home. If you guys can think of some things for me to check this weekend let me know. -Ed
  7. The part that really caught my eye was that it could run MSII and MSnSE at the same time. So this got me to thinking..... you could run the MSnSE code, but use the ignition inputs through the faster processor so I could run an OEM porsche sensor instead of modifiying to run smaller numbers. but maybe i miss understood.
  8. http://www.megamanual.com/msexp/ What are your guys thoughts on this? -Ed
  9. So how messed up is the weight ballance now? I"m sure the L6 weighed alot more than the KA
  10. I'll be closely watching this as I plan to build my L28 w/ F54 block for turbo applications within the next 12 months.
  11. so we should be trying 60+ trigger angles instead of lower?
  12. Will do, I'm in the middle of painting my 240sx right now so it'll be a couple days till i get back to the Z.
  13. Well i took the dizzy all apart again, it's a 77 so it has two pickups, i switched to the other pickup turned by hand and could hear it was working. So i removed the other one and rigged it to use this one for testing. Was trying to verify timing again on the motor but i couldn't see the mark as it was spinning, triger angle was at 60, set it to 30, then i could see the timing mark just past everything... set it to 10 and i got a large back fire. At this point it was about 9:30pm and I decided to call it a night, so i'm back home at my apt now. Didn't want to piss off my parents neighboors. I'll have at it again tomorrow... Also... checked my ASE settings... it was set for 250 cycles. I set it for 10 seconds now as recomended. -Ed
  14. I posted this on MS board today as well, the only response I've gotten he mentions checking the ASE values as well. I'm gonna try to get a datalog of it tonight along with checking those settings. -Ed
  15. If you removed the piece off 12.... what keeps your reluctor wheel from free spining on the shaft? 12 locks into 9 with those removed, I can't imagine a simple screw being able to hold it from slipping at say 7,000rpm.
  16. I was looking at my dizzy today, I told you wrong, I didn't want to weld the weights because I was afraid they would be welded "off balance" so I welded the advance plate to the shaft piece. I welded #8 to it's self basically so it doesn't move. then cleaned and greased everything, took the springs off the weights. It was working fine till i took it apart tonight and removed one of the two VR pickups lol now i don't have any signal. Gonna play with it more tomorrow. Let me know what Matt comes up with, I'd really like to have MS run it directly instead of having to use the HEI module. -Ed
  17. the timing? Set motor at TDC then set the dizzy. Then followed the setup instructions for the MS. I'm running HEI 8pin module. However, i'm having problems with my MS but I'm positive it's no the Dizzy, could be the module though.
  18. Bumping my old post instead of creating a new one. Was playing with the Z today, trying to get her up and running. Unfortunatley i'm having an odd problem and It's been so long since i've messed with MS i need some refresher help. I did the above mode to run my HEI 8 pin module. It starts right off the bat but wont' idle. Been playing with idle screws, timing, fuel but not much improvement. I can get it to start, idle starts to smooth out, jumps up to about 1000rpm maybe a little higher, at the same time my vacumn gets up to about 15 on my gauge Pressure on MS is droping into about the 50's then all of a sudden it dies. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I've been checking grounds, feeds, settings, etc. But not exactly sure where to go with this one. I figure it's something electronic cause when i feather the TB by hand I can't get it to idle either. I've put a timing light on it, it's pretty close about 2deg off from MS says shouldn't be a big enough deal to cause my symptoms. So in recap. I'm running 024s9 code on my V3 board with the LED19 or spark B mod on my 78 dizzy with welded internals to disable the advance with an HEI 8 pin ignition module. Also... on my LED's... when it starts... all three light up while it runs, then the one on the right dies out, then the left, then center. I thought my dizzy input used to the LED on the right but with the mod, i think it's the center one now? Let me know what other kind of things I should check, going back over there tomorrow to work on it. Thanks guys, Ed
  19. I'm running my MS I with the 78 280z dizzy. Welded the weights like mentioned. I get a steady signal from it.
  20. well my 2+2 clutch for my 280z is the same size as my stock KA clutch. So if your ZX clutch uses a 225mm disc, then yeah... bolt it up.
  21. Welcome to the KA world. There are very few used KA motors running around that don't burn oil. It's the most common thing for that motor. My KA smokes as well if i let it idle for a while then take off from a light i get a ninja smoke screen behind me. It's the valve guide seals in the head that are leaking oil into the combustion chamber to burn. KA valves seals suck, end of story. As long as your compression is good and your don't have timing chaing knock, your fine. -Ed
  22. anybody tried this one? https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/pc-12660-589-9312-hydraulic-12-ton-pipe-bender.aspx
  23. update it's now almost late may and the black has faded to dark grey, however the duplicolor on the roof that i wet sanded and buff is still black as night. I guess you pay for what you get lol. However... they are both still glossy.
