  1. Oh yeah... I forgot about the tranny. Damn... I coulda done that during my vacation. I'll have to make a trip down there with a friend. Olie... you have the shaft to match the dizzy?
  2. I'm in Houston and have NEVER EVER heard that, anywhere.
  3. I too have had persona bad experience from Spacers. I bought a set from MMC Ross makes some great products and they are top notch... One day while driving home.. I noticed unusually noise form the rear wheel... get in the driveway and I had sheared one of the studs on the rear spacer. Causing it to chew at the inside of my whee and top of the spacer. This is not Ross's fault, he said it was due to over tightening but i disagree as evertyhing was done with a torque wrench. It was probably just a material flaw in the stud, regardless I'll never run spacers that bolt on again. 16x7 konigs that bolt up for me thank you.
  4. Great news! Thank you! I'm not sure which one I will try maybe both as the HEI module is fairly cheap. -Ed BTW... I used to have an article before i had to reformate my drive... It showed what the signal from the VR in the dizzy was supposed to look like on a scope. Is is supposed to be a saw tooth or a square?
  5. Well I think I've decided to rough it out and take the high road. I'm gonna do the R230 package swap that Ross sells. This will eliminate the weak stub axle Which is a concern of mine in upgrading. I'm NA right now and don't make huge numbers but i plan to be in the 400-600 mark when i go turbo so I want something to take that lashing. I myself have broken 3 sets of U-joints within 7 months of play/daily driving. No clutch dumping just spirited driving.
  6. Happy new year to you as well Ernie. Hope you had a good Christmas. That's pretty funny that spoilers slid by for bumpers lol.
  7. kinda funny that that car needs more downforce on the front.
  8. So I have my MS all taken apart infront of me trying to track down why it won't read the ignition signal anymore (previous thread) and I'm looking through the MS instructions testing stuff and I get an idea of something I had a while back. So I go over to the MSnSE site and look at distributor mode for ignition. This require locked dizzy and it says it can use the signal from a VR sensor and fire the coil directly. So I'm wondering... can I use the Sensors in the stock 77 & 78 dizzy as a trigger for the MS? and have the MS fire my coil as the diagramn shows? instead of getting a turbo dist. -Ed
  9. I read some info over on fresh alloy and the VK has lightweight pistons and the VH does not... so there is some of your weight.
  10. what'd you paint the quarter window trim black with? you get it powder coated or?
  11. Yeah I'm 21 and waited tables since I was 16. Being one of the guys you were always expected to lift the heavy loaded down trays. The ones from the bar were really fun. One day I lifted too much... went to the doc the next day, he told me I couldn't lift anything over 10lbs for the next 2 months. After that I started bartending and eventually quit. I agree... lift the proper way and take care of your back, it's pretty much your life line.
  12. woah... that sounds like fun. You'll have to post some pics up of that.
  13. how low does your car sit? It looks like it would hit EVERYTHING! You must be around stock ride height still.
  14. Sorry to bump a really old thread but I'm curious as to who out of these people are still running halfshats with OEM style U-joints. The people talking in this thread are putting down alsmost twice as much torque than I am with much harder launches, I'm curious to see who has broken.
  15. Christmas this year was actually very nice despite what I was expecting it to be. The best thing was the g/f straightening up and we ended up getting unofficially married (common law marriage certificate) November I bought myself two wheels for the Z 16x7 Konigs rewind dark silver finish with polished lip. The wife got me all new speakers for the 240sx 6 1/2" Infinity reference. A new necklace with the st christopher medallion (for those into surfing or are catholic hes a protector basically) to replace mine that broke. Some cologne samples and a blender that I've been wanting for almost 2 years. Her parents suprised both of us with a 20" flat screen LCD TV, they also got me the black and decker auto leveling laser tool with built in stud finder (I thought it was the coolest thing). They also got her a proffesional waxing pot (she's and estiology student now) My parents got me some socks, two ohio state shirts and a cap, some cooking oils and spices (I'm a Chef until i finish my degree) and a New 12' harness with metal DB32 connector for my megasquirt No more melted plastic trying to solder to the pins on that dang connector! Also my father got a new job early in the month so that was a nice relief as I don't have to watch them move now. Maybe next year the wife and stepmom can get along lol.
  16. sweet theme! might want some mirrors on it though, even fighter jets need to look behind them!
  17. That is seriously messed up. Reminds me alot of another forum Houston240sx.com they do stupid stuff like that as well. Thus the more technical 240 owners broke away to create texas240sx.com. That's why I like Hybridz so much, there is no nonsense Bullsh*t in the technical forums. People are treated as people with respect right off the bat, you don't have to earn respect here. It's given as soon as you join and it's up to you to ruin it or keep it. Tough break for that guy... I think I would leave the forum as most of them commented on his arm and not about his problem.
  18. so the best way to do camber yourself is some angle iron and a level and or protractor?
  19. When I was modding the body.. I was wanting to do an LED light strip that when around the bottom edge of the bucket and wraped around to the side a little. The 350Z has something similar, only problem was I could figure out anyway to make the plastic to protect the LED's and circuitry (I wanted it flush mount). I supose with a dirll and some silicone.. you could drill holes in teh bottom edge and just poke the LED thruogh with a dab of silicone? hope it helps. -Ed
  20. MSA header down side... they flange can warp on it... mine did. But I have the thick flange version now. Also... it's going to be louder, and I believe the the pipe is 2.5" at the end so I would upgrade your system to 2.5" to reap maximum benefit from it, since you already have more air coming in.
  21. So does this mean every FS5W71C has the same bolt pattern and dimensions? I'm going to assume the splines on all of them are the same? Or did they keep the box dimensions the same and just put on different bellhousings to save some money?
  22. cool, you'll be in my backdoor.
  23. i guess this is either a stupid question on my part or nobody really knows.
  24. This is more a nissan question than a Z question. I have a 78 280z and a 95 240sx both manual 5spds. FS5W71C is noted as the 240sx manual tranny. Which is also used in nissan trucks, and z31, and maybe more applications. From what i gather... certain boxes use different ratios for 1-3 gear seems like 4th and 5th are usually the same. So my question is... becuase they are all noted as an FS5W71C does this mean all the internals are interchangeable? Also... the Z31 is listed as using three trannys one of which is the FS5W71C now if it used this and two other trannys can i conclude they all have the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing? As I don't think nissan would make different Z31 blocks to accept the different trannies. Does this mean every FS5W71C has the same bolt pattern? Help me out, i used the search feature and have gone crazy over google today but not a whole lot of info on swap ability and bolt patterns is out there.
