  1. champfacp, Thank you and stay tuned. I didn't use either one. I'm an Old Guy so i like to use what i know works.
  2. Build stop, Yes that is an x-ray of a quarter that my 5 year old daughter swallowed. I have no idea how it went down her throat, She could have choked to death on it and nobody would have heard her. Please tell your kids no money in your mouth at bed time. It wouldn't pass through her stomach waste opening. Doc had to go down her throat to remove it. Still waiting on my parts to show up. So i start checking on how i want the engine to set in the car. Just roughly getting an idea of how it will sit. Started putting the front of the engine back together.
  3. Engine has new bearings and piston rings, painted the block gunmetal gray. Head has new valve seals with a 3 angle valve job. And lapped the valves.. 3 week wait for the Wrong Turbo exhaust manifold, Company finally tells me they cant get me the correct manifold that i ordered. So worked on how im going to run the engine. 4 week wait for a FFIM, Ebay sold out of them and one company was selling them for $800. Ill Wait. Lol They normally sell for $110. Started working on the turbo drain hole for the oil pan My extra ZXT Turbo drain pipe ends up fitting right onto the 2JZ upper oil pan. I drilled and tapped the pan for studs and put the drain pipe on. While i was waiting on my turbo parts, i started setting the engine in the car trying to figure out its placement. Trying to figure out how to do mounting plates for it.
  4. I found out that the extra oil feed line fitting that i had from my L28na turbo fit in the block of the 2J.. Nice. I was hoping it would. Since i was planning on buying a FFIM Front facing intake manifold. You need to plug the feed for EGR. Remove the Plate at the rear of the cylinder head and plug the port. I drilled and tapped the back of the head, then screwed the plug in. Now how do i make a block off plate for the Dist??... You cut the base off of another 2JZGE Distributor, remove the lower dist gear, Drill out the inside and add a threaded plug. Install a new o-ring to seal the outer housing that goes into the head and Baam.. Its done. I bought extra parts for the build during another J-yards $69.00 all you can carry day.. Dist, Valve cover, 2 extra oil pan assemblies, and a few other goodies. Sold the oil pans once i found out how much they go for on Ebay.. Extra money for the project.
  5. Hey Z-Gad, Your original 2jz video you put on youtube in 06, Inspired me to put a 2j in my Z... Thank You.
  6. Hey Brian, Lol. Did you really want engine dissasembly and cleaning pics.??... lol You were the first one to see the later pics. But I have to show the boring pics before the Sweet ones.
  7. You should not have to rev the engine that high to get it to start charging. I remember it being like 1500rpm max, to get the alt in charge mode.
  8. Zetsaz, Oh i have seen the car before but never that link, thanks for posting that. I did the all the work at my job, After hours and on my weekends off. Weekends i didn't have my kids. Cleaning up the pistons, head and intake ports. Engine had a ton of carbon in it. Cleaned everything up and started honing the cylinders. Crankshaft and bearings showed no wear. Camshaft journals were good to go as well. I was loving my $120 engine buy.
  9. This is my Low, Low, Budget swap Thread. Thanks to ZGad for posting your 2jz 240z Drag Strip video, 6 Years ago.. You hooked me on this swap the first time i saw your video. Thanks to Seattle Jester, B.. For letting me bounce ideas off of you, helping me out when i couldnt get the engine running, and for him replying to my posts. I Appreciate the Interaction B.. I bought a 2JZGE from a 97 Lexus SC300 at my local pull a part, 2, 1983 W-58 5spd trannys, a shifter assembly and the front half driveshaft. All for $240.00 Half off day. Pulled all the parts on a friday eve and showed up at 6am saturday morning to be in line early and buy them. Yard openned up at 7:30am, i got the hell out of that mad house quickly, I was out of there by 8:30am with my goodies. Pulled the drivetrain out of my z 2 months later, to start selling those parts to offset the swaps cost. Just a quick start more to come::
  10. You can still have tires that shake even after balancing.. Did they do a road force variation check??. It tells you if the tire and or the rim is out of specs. Machine will also show what the road force will be if the tire is broken down and placed on the rim in different spots.
  11. 5spd 280ZXT's came with the trans you need. No need for an adapter. You can do the l28 NA-T, just get turbo parts for it. Not sure about a larger, low boost turbo. Camshaft and headwork.. Professional head porting can get your horsepower goals nicely.
  12. Helpful tip: Check all the fuses before during and after the install. When you do the wiring for the efi and ignition relays, go over the diagrams 10 times before you install it in the car. Then go over the diagrams 10 times after you have it set up in the car. Make sure the fuses are good and connections are soldered well. I swapped an 83 efi engine and efi wiring into my 260 and still missed a ground for one relay. Car wouldn't start, No ignition, No ecu power, injectors wouldnt spray fuel. I could run the engine on starting fluid though. I didn't figure it out for 2 weeks. Was going over the wiring with a factory diagram and found the missing ground wire. Added it and engine started right up.
  13. You may have an early built 260z which will have 240z parts in it. The later built 260z's have 280z parts in it. Keep that in mind if you look for suspension, brake and fuel tank parts.
  14. Looks good, Quick question. Is the the OBD 2 diag connector included in the harness so you can check and or clear any codes??. Looks like your using a Nissan Ecu. Possibly reflashed ???
  15. Missed this the other day, Sorry if its a repost. When i was a young kid. The Munsters and Batman were the shows that hooked me on cars and customizing them. I would customize my model cars with spot puddy and a plug in heel sander thingy. Lol Mom never made me change the channel. Im 50 years old now and have upgraded the tools of the trade, Thanks for putting your car visions on display for me to Gawk and Dream about. R.I.P. G.B.
  16. Swap looks good so far, You may either need to find someone who has done this swap before or do more internet searching. Search for a/c delete. P.S. Delete posts. Belt Vacuum lines and Hose info.. I would just add the Nissan/Infiniti engine cover to it, maybe paint it the color the car is going to be. It covers all of the hoses and lines up. If you want heat inside the car i would leave it alone. Smaller coolant hoses go to the Electronic throttle bodies. I would leave them connected. Always a ton of searching for info when doing a custom build. The prize is when its driveable. Are you using a stand alone ecu to control the advance for the HR cylinder heads ??.. For the wiring you could cut the large hole in the firewall to feed the harness through. Then make a cover that has a smaller hole and section taken out of it, screw the cover into the firewall. paint it yellow. Enjoy your build
  17. What month was your 260z produced??. This will help answer your questions. The early month models have the front turn signals below the bumper. these models use mostly 240z parts. The late model 260z has the turn signals next to the grill. These models use the 280z parts.
  18. Leon, I haven't swapped gear ratios in a G37 or 370z. I was reffering to the OP's Engine swap question. What i would say is. if i put a larger set of tires on the rear of a 370z I dont think the abs light would come on. Changing tire sizes is similar to changing gear ratios. Personally I would never be concerned if a cruise control code popped up after doing a diff swap though. But if the vehicle was 4wheel drive the abs light or trans will have a code. Brand new tires on the front, worn tires on the rear. Will cause the light to flash. Toyota trucks do the same thing.. Nissan does not give techs access to changing parameters for diffs and transmissions and or tire sizes. But if the car had to go through emiissions that code may turn the check engine light on. If it turned on the ABS and Slip lights i definately wouldnt be concerned. OP wanted to swap engines.
  19. Im a Nissan Tech, this is what new cars have been going towards since 2000. Nissan doesnt monitor the gear ratios like that. If you were to do an engine swap in one of these. You need the wiring harness ecm, bcm, key antenna. Kind of like when guys put the 350z or 370z engine in an old Z. If you use the Nissan wiring harness, you need all those components. Then bring it in so we can program the system for the key. Nissan as others should, Have a rolling code system for starting. Never uses the same key starting signal, makes them harder to steal. No distributors in the later years, cam and crank sensors. Time the engine chains and gears correctly. it will start and run. This is usually why people just try to get the engine running on a standalone system to avoid the hassle.. If the car doesnt have to go through emissions your in business.
  20. Good luck and enjoy your prjoect.. Take lots of pics so you can save them for later use if needed. Continued Buildthread. Remember this is your project and don't worry about any nay sayers. You don't have to spend 25k on a project, unless you want to. I am almost finished my low cost 2JZ_NA-T Swap. We would never get our car projects somewhat finished, if we listen to the Nay sayers. I say somewhat because most of us know, they never are finished. Always Evolving. Great start
  21. This is a trick some old timer mechanics taught me. If you cant get the one you need. You can align the clutch disc with your finger tips. There is enough space between the pressure plate and the flywheel, to put 2-3 of your finger tips in. You feel around the clutch assembly in 3 areas pushing the clutch disc to where its centered, to the pressure plate. Then start tightening the pressure plate bolts by hand, crosshatch. Been doing clutches this way for 30 years, Imports and domestics. I have never had to redo it because a trans wouldnt slide in. Works every time. Worked on Domestic cars for 8 years, Toyota Dealership mechanic for 4 years. Now 18 years as a Nissan Dealership mechanic.
  22. Looking at your pics. You will have more clearance then that between the intake and hood. Remember the z hood arches up in the middle, then gradualy down towards each fender.
  23. You should have been able to check the trigger offset by just cranking the engine over and checking with the timing light. A remote start button can help you do that if y by yourself. Keep us updated.
  24. Look in the Faq section for the Megasquirt map sharing thread on this site. FInd Cygnus1 His Maps are just about what your setup is. Input those values into your bins. U also may have to increase the required fuel amount. When you get it to idle, just adjust it for best idle. Turn in your idle screw some also. You will adjust all of these once you get the engine running and idling. You may also need a helper, someone to crank it over while you keep it running.
  25. I think another member swapped a lexus front end into a S30, Looks good so far.
