Okay? Datsun and Subaru used the same exact R Series housings. Also, notice how the back holes for the front mount aren't used - Subaru uses a mount that has bolts in all 4 holes, while Datsun only used the front two. It looks exactly like the R180 I pulled out of my 1981 Automatic parts car.
-
Nope. A. Subarus never used halfshafts with R180s [All CVs] B. All Subaru R180s are LSDs and have finned covers Subaru did in fact put labels on all of their diffs. It is a rectangular metallic piece on the back cover with the gear ratio and relevant details. The color of the label [gold or silver] indicated LSD or open. Looks like a Datsun R180 to me.

PIC REQUEST: ROTA WM7 on a 240/260
FlatBlack replied to dzeyene's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The 15x8 Rotas are +4 I have to run a 1/4" spacer in the front or I rub the front spring seat with 225s. I got them with brand new tires for the price of the tires. Sans spacer: I need to get some RBRs -
Stock Brakes vs. Upgrades
FlatBlack replied to kce's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Heh. Thousands of dollars? I think I have less than $100 in my S12+8 upgrade. I just did new rotors, rebuilt calipers, and bought new pads. I will be upgrading to SS lines soon. The stock brakes are alright, but I'm very glad I switched. Also, they have a nicer aesthetic value, seeing 4 pots are way better than seeing one big round caliper. My brakes are front biased now, but a cheap rear disk swap and proportioning valve will fix that. I would guess 40% of my driving miles this year have been directly related to autocrossing [traveling to events and then running in them], but they help on the street as well. I like the pedal feel over the stock calipers as well. Do you need them? No. Do you want a really good upgrade for cheap? I don't know, I don't read minds -

PIC REQUEST: ROTA WM7 on a 240/260

Seriously? You think 7" wide is a typical size for an aftermarket wheel? I have 225s on my 8" rims [it's the widest I can fit and I personally think 225s are inadequate for a car with any decent amount of power] - if you can't run anything over a 215 on a custom wheel, what's the point? That seems ricey IMHO, only buying wheels for "the look." -

7" wide is really small. I bought Rota RB 15x8s and I'm wishing I had much more tire. Also, as a 'personal taste' issue, I think those look really generic in silver. The graphite looks a bit better I guess. -

Thank you!!!! I've quickly become obsessed with the dang thing

Oh man. My head hurts from trying to get the new search feature to work. I give up. Google search didn't bring anything up either. I'm looking for the "Show us pics of your race car" thread. Or, could someone tell me whose car this is:

how many guys still have several local car buddies
FlatBlack replied to grumpyvette's topic in Non Tech Board
A bit off-topic as I can't quite relate. I'm in the demographic you are describing as "younger and single," but luckily I work on campus with TrumpetRhapsody. He's also got a L28ET swapped S30 on MegaSquirt, we both graduated High School the same year, and built our Zs in nearly the same chronological order. I'm very thankful to have another Z guy around to BS and throw ideas around with! I'm hoping as we got old and crotchety/cranky I'll still have a 'Z friend' haha. -
It rained hardcore last night. I took the Jeep to work. This new car WILL NOT see rain. Unless it's a race day I finally have one that is not trying to oxidise its way into oblivion while I'm trying not to eat cones.

Another perspective: I just bought a clean 78 for a shell swap on my Flat Black car. I got it with a parts car for $1200, it runs and drives, but it needed tires [i have an extra set of wheels], the rear clunks HARDCORE [probably front diff mount, could be U-Joints], the turn signal unit is broken, and the brakes need an overhaul. The door mechanisms also need to be repaired. I haven't even touched the stock stuff but you HAVE to plan on 30 year old rubber [bushings, fuel hose, etc etc etc] to go bad. These are all things to plan for. Luckily, I have an entire parts car, plus I have a ton of performance/upgrade parts that will be swapped over from Flatty. If I were making this a Daily Driver or even a stock autoX car, I would put at LEAST another $1,000 into it. That's a conservative estimate. Not including stuff I'm forgetting. [Add nearly half of what you plan to spend on stuff you'll encounter later] Also, I know what I'm doing, I've done it twice before You will take longer/possibly make mistakes because you don't know what works or what is easiest. I was there about 4 years ago.

I love non-rally people's opinions on rally drivers Bump? Not even... I might call that a 'slight tap.' You have to have a serious 'off' to really set back a rally car. Heck even a roll doesn't mean you can't take 1st place in the Baie de Chaleurs Rally:

Welp... We've successfully destroyed this thread. Good luck on the dime, 75!

I give up trying to explain my sarcasm to you. Yes, I friggin love JDM cars You make me sad for your generation.
-
Okay so according to you - it is not cool to 1. Make the car hellaflush 2. Drift 3. Race the car at sanctioned events What do you do with your car?
-
lol you even quoted it XD 1. Go highlight the entire text block of my comment by holding your mouse down and scrolling over the post. 2. Get your very very tight panties out of a bunch. Sarcasm > you I race my car(s) at least once a month. Do you??
-
I have no idea how your comment is relevant I post a video of a Mercedes wagon racing after you said to slam the car ['hellaflush'] because a wagon couldn't be a racecar. seen = past version of "see" scene = "culture" or mentality of a group of like-minded people I love hellaflush. If you don't like it you can take your hate elsewhere. I park on racetracks to take pictures, what's up? [if you don't get the joke, you're incredibly dense. Notice my huge sig picture of me racing my car. BTW I think drifiting is retarded, but you MUST admit that wagon is a bad mofo]
-
That's my beef with it. I mean yes - it would kind of be your fault if you put it in the wall, but the Safety Steward needs to forsee problems IN CASE something like that were to happen. You reacted really well, but get the kid in a swapped 240SX with a welded diff that thinks he's the next drift star, and doesn't know when to let off, and you have a serious issue on your hands.
-
Who was running the event? SCCA tracks are supposed to have at least 25' of runoff from any part of a "hot" area on the track. Sketch. On a lighter note, your "trying to get speed to go through the lights" comment made me smile. I was working the Timing and Scoring at our last AutoX event, and someone said: "90% of the people out here think they are going to make up all their time in the last stretch before the lights"

A first gen Z for less than $1000 is going to take quite a bit of work and money to make it driveable and reliable. I don't think you fully know what you are getting in to. Might I suggest a S13. Decent RWD starter car, gets decent gas mileage, and shouldn't take a whole lot to be a daily driver. If you're 17 and strapped for cash, you don't need to be dailying an S30. They are project cars and your wallet isn't big enough.

This is what I was trying to say in BP's thread

Search for "anti-lag" - it keeps the fuel from igniting until it hits the hot turbine blade. It ignites when it gets to the hot side, which keeps the turbo spooled up, but it shortens the life a bunch. The Open class Rally guys use it on their cars for when they are off throttle.
