Side skirts on SDI Blue Z
AkumaNoZeta replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
On that note, does he have a build thread of it or maybe a thread with pictures and explanations? I cant use the search feature on my school's network right now or I would do it. Everytime I try to search something on here it always gives me the "Page Cannot Be Found" thing. -
Side skirts on SDI Blue Z
AkumaNoZeta replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Whats a drover? -
I was looking at the windtunnel thread again and when looking at the pictures of the SDI Blue car I started wondering how the side skirts there are routed underneath the car because you can tell it goes under there. Does anybody know? Just curious

One Of The Most Unusual Cars at MSA '09...Pics
AkumaNoZeta replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
No front views? -
I love the 5.0. Its the only reason I even got the Mustang. From day one of owning the Mustang the plan was to put it in another car, but of course back then the plan was to put it in the Type 65 Factory Five Coupe. That was before I bought the Z though and before I wanted to make my own completely custom chassis and suspension. So in theory it will still be years from now because I want the Mustang to drive around while I do the chassis and suspension on the Z and have the engine in there last thing. But I'm also trying to get my Z running so after I graduate and have some place to go, I dont have to have it towed there. Another thing I've been thinking about is driving the Z as is while I pull the engine and transmission from the Mustang and part out the rest of the Mustang in an attempt to buy a more "economical" daily driver, like a Metro or something. Oh, and after I have the Z how I want it, I'll have lots of parts to sell then too so I guess in the very long run I'll still get some money back.

I've been looking more into the engine management side of things lately but...lets just face it, reading a book is easier and more fun then reading something on the computer monitor that makes your eyes hurt after a while. So I was wondering what books out there are good for learning more about EFI systems? Are there any books that deal with MegaSquirt II specifically? I want a good book that also deals with injector and fuel pump sizing. Everything I find on sizing use only use horsepower and number of injectors to find the rating needed. I feel having an eqaution based on CID, PSI, compression ratio, and etc would be more accurate.

front valance(not sure if this is the place)
AkumaNoZeta replied to gjc5500's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
If its a street driven vehicle I wouldn't bother because it wouldn't look right. Aerodynamically it would probably increase drage becuase it would be opened up and hit the radiator like a wall. In fact that extra air damming up at the radiator might increase the pressure under the hood causing more lift. Just thinking out loud and I'm no where close as knowledgable as the other people here. -

AkumaNoZeta replied to gjc5500's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
That's right. You have to remember that the S30 was made back in the day when they didn't worry about aerodynamics. Thats why the MSA air dams are so popular, they make the air go to the sides of the car instead of underneath it. -
Individual throttle plates for 5.0 design
AkumaNoZeta replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
Did more drawing. The upper intake design idea was inspired by 1artworkz's and Monzster's designs here http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=144523&highlight=audi+intake and here http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=127863&highlight=audi+plenum The weight figures are taken from Dart's product specs but the Total line are estimated. -
Individual throttle plates for 5.0 design
AkumaNoZeta replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
Speed density. I figure with speed density it would be easier to tune for a boosted application. Or maybe you could just use the MAF on the inlet of the upper intake, that would work, right? Also note, the throttle pulley would be in interference with distrubitor. -
I drew this up and was quite proud of it. I based it on the lower half of the Cobra intake. Basically I was thinking of having this on top of the lower intake. I was thinking of it being milled out of two peices of aluminum that sandwich the plate assemblies inside and also a spot made to keep the 1:1 gears from getting dirty and jamming. Which also give a spot to mount the TPS. One thing I didn't think about was an IAC. Do you all like it?

What body kits were available in '72?
AkumaNoZeta replied to liveforeverZ's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
From what I've seen people usually use the 240Z style turn signals when they switch to the 240Z bumpers. As for the tail lights, the only people who would notice those being different would be us Z fans. The producer/director probably wouldn't know at all and the majority of the people watching wouldn't either. -
I have a second T5. Its the one that came with the car but I blew up and switched out. I was gonna build a second 5.0 off to the side, nothing radical just using lighter parts and changing the power band to around 6-7000, and while I do that I can send the transmission to a guy I read about in a Mustang magazine that rebuilds the T5s using new gears and stuff (cant remember all of it because its been so long since I read it) but the transmission was built to take a 3200 lb Mustang down the quarter in 9 seconds reliably, so I'm sure it would be good enough. I'll try to find the article online again.

I'm throwing a wrench in this plan. 1990 Ford 302, great running stock with T5. Would we all agree this being my best option? Its in my rusted out Mustang that I'm gonna give up on because everytime I think I have the cracks in the frame fixed...they come back. That means engine with trans is free (transmission needs reverse fixed because I broke that on a steep incline). And the Mustang has been my daily driver so I know the 5.0 HO aint bad at all on gas, plenty of torque. Not to mention free. Oh, and all the research I've done I have came to the conclusion (whether 100% or not is still in the air) that the 5.0 with T5 wieghs the same as the L28 with 5spd, and looking at the thread with other people's cars weights posted it seemed that the weight has always been biased to the rear with the 302 in it. I just think that no matter how much I want to have another Nissan engine in the car...the 302 from my Mustang seems to be the best option. I already have it and the only reason I have the Mustang is because of the engine, which would allow me to finally scrap the rusted shell (after parting it out of course). You all agree with me?

Passanger wheel has vertical play
AkumaNoZeta replied to Cutlass372's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
When the wheel bearings were bad, then the play would also be appearent when moving the wheel left to right. Correct? -
The only thing I found so far is a white Z that had the crank from a LD28 in his L28 to make a 3.2 ltr. I didn't expect the KA head thing to be produced, just mentioned it because if it works than anyone could make it. I was just thinking out loud. Is there any DOHC heads for L-series engines? I saw one on youtube, but from what I read that was a rare datsun factory thing. I thought OS Giken made one but dont see anything on their site or anything.

For the last year or so, I would wet dreams of which I had to remove a transmission or take apart a suspension, instead of removing clothes, in order to gain access to the "good parts" lol. How bad has it been with you guys? Also I used to bathe with one of those big yellow sponges for washing cars in the auto department of walmart.
-
Sorry for hijacking this thread, I tend to do that a lot. But...LD28 huh? Does it weigh about the same as the L28 N/A? That sounds intriguing. Wasn't there a guy here making a DET head for L6s by using 2 KA24 heads? Couldn't you use that idea and modify the spark plug holes to use injectors and have a direct inject LD28? And then you could put as much boost to it as you want because you dont have the octane issue. How's the revs of a LD28? Wikipedia didn't have anything about it and I couldn't find anything in search engines.

Has this been done? Rear end modification
AkumaNoZeta replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in Body Kits & Paint
How about on a car not so heavily modified? Beautiful car, but I was wondering about it being without the huge flares and factory-ish tail lights. -
I'm sorry, I dont know about any engine in particular. I thought that list would have gone from normal truck engines to tractors/heavy equipment. I guess I was wrong
-
I say it would be great for an all out drag car, but if you plan to go around corners AT ALL it would be a bad idea. Just my opinion...that would be like a what? 65/35 front to rear weight distribution? Actually thinking about it. The Z is about 2500 lbs stock right? L6 with 4spd is 530 lbs so that would be 1970lbs. Add 1500 lbs for the diesel...3470lbs and that 1500 is all front-mid weight so it may actually be closer to 70/30?
-
I found this. Very discouraging to me, but all I did was glance at it. I love diesel engines but I hate a ton of weight http://www.adieselengine.com/new_page_1.htm

Forgive me if I this has been discussed or anything because I haven't seen it yet. I have been interested in having the rollpan extended to close up the gap between the quarter panels under the gas tank. I think this would greatly improve the looks of the car, especially from the rear. On my build plan the exhaust wouldn't be existing the back of the car so the only other thing I could think of to not to this is modyfing the stock gas tank or having a custom made gas tank to fit inside of it. Has this been done? Pictures?

Whenever I have that problem I usually just decelerate slowly until they pass me so they're no longer behind me. But I am still a kid and can be stupid too, if the road is clear sometimes I downshift a gear or two (depending what rev I'm cruising at) and just leave them behind. I've only had a couple people catch up to me, takes them a long time to do it though, but I think that was more of one of those "If there's any cops he'll get pulled over before me" kinda thing but by that time I'm back at the speed limit so it doesnt work the way they plan, lol.

So are you all saying that 7.5" clutches are the smallest recommended for street use?
