Stock Vs. Stock........yes. If the Lightning up'ed the boost it would probably win but I think the SRT-10 has got it beat in stock form. Im not sure on the performance #'s of the Lightning though? Guy

Yeah I got to drive the fastest production truck ever made today...the Dodge Ram SRT-10, "Viper Powered" truck!!!!!!!! It was in for a recal and for new clutch set up since it was burned up after 500 miles! We figure the sales men burned up the clutch when it was sitting in the lot waiting to be sold. Those god damn salesmen have absolutly no respect for anything! They take everything out an beat on it! The SRT-10 Ram is a very limited production truck and Dodge isnt sure if they will make any more. So far 2004 is the only year they are planning for. The truck will do 154.X miles per hour with a 8.3 Liter V10 Viper engine. I think its the 500HP/500TQ package but Im not sure on that. To work on a Viper you have to have a "Viper training certificate", otherwise Dodge will not pay for the work that was done. So after the guy who did the recal and installed the new clutch set up was done with it, he asked me if I wanted to drive it! I was like "yeah right you must be kidding!" I was begging him all week to drive it, but I never thought he would actually let me! So he says sure but be careful and just take it for a drive to make sure it shifts alright...oh and "the truck is on empty so dont go too far" So I go down the road about 2 miles and make a left hand turn, thats when the truck died! Yeah it ran out of gas just as I got threw the intersection. I could not believe it. So there I sat with a $54,000 truck and no cellphone to call back with. So I put my hazards on and tried to think of what to do. Then so "chick" in a Neon pulls up behind me and I go ask her if she as a cell phone....nope but she said she would give me a ride back to my dealership. So I told her that Im going to get it out of the main road and then she can take me back. So I push this truck by myself about 50 yards off the main road! Yeah pushing a truck 50 yards by yourself it god damn tiring! LOL So she takes me back and the I drive back with another guy and we put about 2 gallons of gas in the truck and it fires right up! So on the way back I got on a nice long straight away and I got on it a little and man-o-man does that truck haul some serious a$$!!!!!!!! I tell you what, if you ever see one of these on the high way think twice about racing it! You just might loose your a$$ LOL It was raining today so I couldnt see how quick it was off the start but I can tell you for sure that its fast as all hell on the highway! LOL I only got it up to about 80mph though(in a 55 ) Man I hope I get to drive a Viper next and on a sunney hot day when the roads are extra dry! Guy

Need Tire Recommendations for 280ZX with 383 Stroker
80LS1T replied to danj's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Well I just took my car for a spin yesterday with my new rim/tire combo and the BFG T/A KD's are a very sticky tire. They are AA traction rating and A temperature rating. I have 225/45/17's. These are a dry weather tire but they also make a KDW which is dry & wet traction. I drove down my gravel driveway and those damn tires were picking up stones left and right! I loved it and really hated it at the same time! My cars not painted right now but once it is Im really going to have to drive supppppppper slow down my drive way so that I dont put chips in my paint. Im going to go for a spin later today so I will have to post how "sticky" they are. I was told they are about a 10000 mile tire due to the compound of the tire(AA). Guy -
Yeah I think you need one of those Tim! And it looks like it will fit under the stock hood of a Z/ZX! Guy

a few LT1/LT4 builds you might want to look at
80LS1T replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
From the first link... This guy has atleast $10,000 stuck into this motor and he uses a "FRAM" oil filter! :malebitchslap: Other than that, this is a sweeeeeeeeet motor! Guy -
Would this be worth it? LT1 $4000NZD?
80LS1T replied to AgentZ's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Deffintely a littl on the pricey side. You should be able to ge an LT1/4L60E combo for less than $3000 pretty easy. The LT1/T56 combo is the one that cost more due to the T56 manual tranny being so valuable. Guy -
Well from what I understand what you need to do is.... Run atleast 20' feet of metal piping from the air tank/compressor, run it so that it has to go up then back down. Then have a water filter at the end you have your regulator at. What we did was run the pipe up a post in the garage, then make a u-shape, then back down the post on the other side of the stall. This way the air has time to cool and it sure is hard for the water to run uphill. It seems to work really good too. The water filter never really has anywater in it but when we take the hose off the end of the pipe closest to the compressor water comes "pouring out". Guy

Ok I for one am dying to know the answer to this question! I say stick with the first door you pick because whenever humans are involved with a choice, anything can happen. Guy

Well my brother stopped over today to take a look at what I had as far as body work and paint to do to my car. The good news is that he can do all the work and he'll do it for free. The bad news is he has 4 cars infront of mine that he has work to do on so he wont be able to get to it till late summer or early fall. So I wont be getting paint for the summer. Im kinda bummed about it but its ok because I actually have to buy some stuff like weather stripping and seats before I can put the car back together after its painted. So this way I can save some money up and buy those things. What kind of paint is the orignal paint. I cant remember what kind of paint he said it was but he said that I we will have to strip the car down to bare metal to paint it because if we dont the paint will not set up right or something? I have no idea how to do body work so I just agreed with him! LOL I trust everything he says about body work. I feel like I'm Tim, I just cant seem to finish my car! ( Sorry I had to say it since "I cant seem to post an image link" ) Guy

I think I fixed the link now! Matt if you are talking about the spaces between the outside tubes and the two inside tubes on the flange, I cut those just incase there was any imperfections from me welding on the new pipes which may have cause the flange to warp. This way the two outside pipes are "on there own" and bolt down nice and tight to the head. The cost was $199 coated and shipped back to my door. The Jet Hot Coating has a 3 year unlimited warrenty for defects. So if yours is "flaking" off then I would send them back for recoating. Oh and Tim you are right about the coating covering up the uglyness of the header! I thought the same thing when I opened the box to day! Guy

Hey Rick do you remember what those exhaust manifolds are off of? I would like to put that info on your site too. I will add the wheel info right now. Guy

TO work, or Not to work... That is the question...
80LS1T replied to Mikelly's topic in Non Tech Board
Wow thats a good deal! 5% of 5 million is 250,000! So just sign one of those deal and take the rest of the year off! LOL Guy -
Heck ya man! Send over the pics and info when ever! Spdsk8r- I have your page done. I am loading it up to my site right now. I will post your link when I am done. 8) If you want me to add any captions to the pics that dont have any just let me know which pic and I will just "copy and paste" whatever your write me! Guy
-
Sorry to hear about that. Glad everyone is ok and that the ZX held up good enough to keep you safe! What color was your interior? Guy
-
Ok I got your pics "spdsk8r" and "danc" I got your pic of your header. I am currently work on my site to update it a little bit and make it a little easier to navigate. I will start working on a page for your spdsk8r this week and dan if you want to send me some more pics that would be great! Guy

Dont feel too bad! He's got a super charger pushing 450+rwhp! Plus with that supercharger his probably got gobs of torque! Of course his car does weight like 3500lbs! Whats your engine supposed to have as far as HP/TQ? Is your engine dyno tuned? Oh and how did you manage to get hooker headers in there? Guy
-
I used that engine paint that you can get pretty much anywhere. I painted my block after it was hot tanked and machined so it was extremley clean. I also primered my block with the "engine paint" primer. My paint is holding up great.....no fading, peeling, or anything! Guy

Your system is not running with out pressure in it if you open your cap when its hot and then put it back on. The pressure will build again. If you wait long enough that same pressure will be back. If you take off the cap and "release" the pressure and then put it back on and then take it back off right away, there will be no pressure right away. However if you leave it with the cap on and let the system build pressure again it will do the same thing. The pressure is caused by the coolant reaching is boiling point. So once it gets back up to 250*+ that pressure will be there again. Hope that explains it a little further! Guy

Suggestions For First $500 Toward Improving Stock '95 LT1
80LS1T replied to 240Z2NV's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Just like the other guys said...make sure all your other parts are in good condtion first before you buy performance parts. I would also have to agree with the other guys that the cam swap is the best idea for $500. There really isnt much as far as bolt on performance parts that I would consider "good bang for the buck". Pulleys dont really help if you ask me but some guys think their great. Personally spending $200+ on a smaller pulley to get 5HP(advertised as like 20HP but I doubt you really get that much) isnt exactly bang for the buck! Aslo if you do go with a bigger cam you might have to think about bigger injectors. Although the stock ones should be good for about 350HP(thats what I've heard anyways?) Swapping a cam isnt really as bad as you think. Just pull the intake, water pump, timing cover, timing set, valve covers, and remove the push rods and lifters! See that isnt so bad! LOL It just takes time thats all. Guy -
The pressure that you are refering too is caused by the coolant "instantly boiling" once you take off the radiator cap. Say the cap is a 15lbs cap, that means that water will boil at 45* degrees hotter(3* for every 1lbs of pressure increase). So instead of 212* it would be 257*. Most cooling systems run right around 200* so once you take that cap off the boiling point of that coolant instanly drops 45* to 212*. Thats why all the coolant comes rushing out. Im not sure off what you mean by a vaccum sound when its cold? I have never noticed any noise when I have taken off a radiator cap when the engine was stone cold? I dont think they make a cap that holds 0psi? Besides that you dont want your boiling point of the coolant to be 212*. If you ran your cooling system with no pressure you would "boil over" all the time. Most engines should be run at about 200* for the best performance. Mine runs betweeen 180*(cruising) and 200*(traffic). Once you go above say 225* then you should start wondering whats wrong with your cooling system. Heck the fans on a new Dodge Minivan dont even turn on till 221*(I am a Dodge Technican). As for the mixture, most coolant bottle say what the protection range is for a certain mixture. Im not too sure on what a 70/30 mixture will do for a heat range? Hope that helps some! Guy

ARG! Cant get the car to run!
80LS1T replied to zguy95135's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
First of all fix the "small fuel leak" !!!!!!! There is no such thing as a "small fuel leak" Fuel + Hot engine parts = Bad day! If your sure you have spark and compression. Then either your injectors are not firing or they are clogged. Do you have a "noid" light? A noid light is used to test injector harnesses to see if the computer is sending a signal to the injector to fire. If not you probably can get the one you need at a parts store like Auto Zone. Guy -
Well your more than welcome to summit a photo of the car now and what you plan to do with it as far as engine, tranny, rear end set up, suspesion, and any other custom stuff you have in mind! At first I wasnt thrilled about have the 280ZX for a V8 conversion(I enharited it from my father when he passed away in 99'). But now I really like how everything is turning out. I love the way the MSA body kit looks, I ablsolutly love my new rims, and not to mention its actually pretty comfy to drive in! Yeah it doesnt weight 2500lbs but it should be somewhere in the high 2900's- low 3000lbs range. Im not too concerned with the weight. I figure it just makes the car stronger in areas where the Z's arent. Dont get me wrong I love the 240, 260, and 280s. In fact I want to use a 240Z for my next conversion with hopfully a new 5.7 HEMI. Guy
