  1. I will be/am running 91 octane, and it's my DD, so I think I won't be running any funny jungle juice to push the psi WAY up there, at MOST I'll be doing methanol/water injection. Wait, why is he banned? Beyond the CR, is there a reason for dished over flat? The issue is I've seen some people saying that basically any boring of the cylinder beyond a simple re-machining of the surface will be to much to handle boost.
  2. All of a sudden I don't know if I feel like trying to get an 8k redline on my three liter.
  3. Um....those numbers don't seem to match up according to my math. If you are making 177.2ftlbs at 6.2k, you should be making just under 210whp at the same rpm. Conversely, if you're making 184whp at 6200, you should only be making 156ftlbs at the same rpm. Unless being on summer vacation since yesterday is messing with my head.
  4. I seem to recall a couple of posts claiming that L engines that have been bored out don't take to boost well. Anyone know where I could read up on why this is true, or if it even is? (My search foo sucks, aparently)
  5. 8.5:1......yah, I'm going to go with the above, except remove the 'big cam' option, since at 8.5:1, all you really can do is turbocharge it and start cranking up the boost.
  6. I've seen people that say that a break in is needed, I've seen people that say just drive like you would 10k miles down the road, and others that have said that the best break in is to drive it like you stole it. Personally, I would say don't abuse it, and change the oil more frequently than you normally would.
  7. I'm going to give a big +1 to AMSOIL. I got my Z in january, with the last oil change having been ten thousand miles ago, right after the PO installed the Rebello....six YEARS ago. The oil didn't even look like it needed to be changed when I replaced it. fwiw, I'm running an AMSOIL dual filter bypass system.
  8. I love my Rebby engine, but I wasn't the one that put it in, the PO was. If I were to build a hi horse engine for my own use, I would probably have gone with a turbo route. I love Carb NA engines, but IIRC, about 300whp is the MAX that you are going to get out of an L series engine NA, and that is with ALOT of work. Street Mod is where I am as well, I just need a new set of 205/50R15 rubber to pass technical/safety :/
  9. If you want 300whp, why not just build an L28et to that state? Seems like it would be a heck of alot cheaper and easier than a RB or 2jz swap. AND it might not put you into a weird auto x class, since it would still be a datsun engine.
  10. You have a brand name by any chance? Liquid metal on google turns up some WEIRD stuff
  11. So I've noticed recently the smell of gas around my Z, and after I filled up this morning, I found a small puddle in the dirt under it this afternoon. It seems to be underneath the fuel filler cap, so I don't *think* it is an imminent danger, but does anyone have an easy way to find where it is leaking from? Only idea I have come up with is shine a powerful light in at dusk. And is there any way to fix a fuel tank without removing it, draining it, etc?
  12. But does it fit under the stock hood. After all, what good is all that power if people actually suspect that you have it
  13. What I really want to see is Rolls-Royce Merlin under the hood of a 240, but it's just a wee bit to big...
  14. Lets see, hp goals of 200-250, 3.1L, agressive cam....You SHOULD be able to do it if you assemble everything right and polish up the heads/intake system well. I'm making inside that range at the wheels on my 3.0, but I'm running ~9.8CR and 34-36* of advance, so YMMV. I'm interested to see the results of this though
  15. Well, this I can help with. You'll have to change the in-dash components, but all you have to do is make the button spring loaded, so that you hold it down untill the engine catches, release it, and the spring pushes it out to the stock position, AND breaks the electrical contact at the same time.
  16. thx. Looks like just riping out the insulator on the hood and running some carb cleaner through was enough for now.
  17. I figure since I'm in CA, It's only a matter of time till the publicity hounds and other assorted idiots start totaling these cars, making the engines go up for grabs
  18. Well, I have a 3.0 Rebello, and I love it. I have the triple 44PHHs on there, and when you pin the throttle at ~4000 rpm, the whole world knows it That being said, I'm going to agree with whoever suggested a L30et setup, as it seems to be the best of both worlds (unless you are attached to carbs, like I am).
  19. What times you out here? I'm at Castle Air Museum for an internship 9-4, but I can meet anytime after 4. Or, hell, if you are free then, swing by the museum, take a look at the planes, and I'll be able to meet you in the parking lot @ closing time.
  20. Possible solution. I assume you have the carbs off the car right now? If so, (and assuming that they are the same design basically as the 44PHH model), you should see three threaded holes on the lower portion of each throat, all the same size [two at the six o'clock, one at the....call it 4:30 or 7:30 depending on which throat]. The non vertical holes hold the actual venturis in place, however, I don't THINK that the other two are actually used, and the one closest to the engine SHOULD work, assuming I'm reading the manual right.... I don't know spray very well, but it would put the injection b/w the venturis and the throttle valve, which it seems is what you are looking for? As for fuel pressure, do you mean that the nitrous system should be at 7psi, or that it actually calls for the gas to be at 7? Seems to me that gas system pressure shouldn't matter at all. Your sig says boost, I assume you mean a blow through setup? What kind? (I'm interested in that as well).
  21. So, who's going to be first to swap one in?
  22. Can't help you there, but I'm willing to offer up my car as a test bed for a triple Mikuni 44PHH vs. 4-bbl dyno pull if someone is willing to meetup and help with the wrenching and supply the 4-bbl. It ISN'T a stock L28, so we could see what the difference is on a larger engine. Just wondering, where did you get those numbers? I've been trying on and off to find them...
  23. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARG! How dare you tempt me by posting in this thread
