  1. and that's the beauty of a Z, you can spend less than $10k and have a car that performs better than a new '08 model economy sports car like a 350z or similar. Not to mention that insurance is dirt cheap
  2. i also have a pair from a '78 280z. If you still need a set, let me know.
  3. I bought my freshly repainted Z that was a Florida car for $3800. I have since spent about $3000 or more in upgrades and there are several more thousands of dollars already planned out to go into the car.
  4. if you need some, i have a pair of front frame rails from zedd findings
  5. when you boil 'thayne, it softens up a lot. it makes the bushings easier to bend and manipulate into position. i dunno about you guys, but my bushings were very stiff and strong when i first got them so boiling them was the only way
  6. each bushing was two pieces? that's odd....mine were as pictured above; one piece with a slit
  7. not to hijack, but has anyone tried putting on new bushings without boiling them? i didn't know to boil them and i tried putting them on for 8 hours! i finally heard someone say to boil them and these puppies went on in under 5 minutes total...amazing. new rack bushings are a great feeling
  8. hey guys, i have just received my cosmo racing coilover setup for my z. i know i can adjust rear camber by using some new bushings, but i am still hung up about how to adjust the front camber. obviously there is camber plates, but all of the ones i can find are weld in. is that really the only option? i find bolt in ones for the 280zx and 510, but no s30. does there exist a set of bolt on plates for the z? is the only option to get the EMI Racing Camber Plates from beta motorsports? i am open to hear any thoughts. yes i have searched, very few topics on the matter when i searched "bolt on camber plates" and they were fairly old. maybe something has come out and for those that have welded in plates, how hard is that to do?? could a shop easily do it and for cheap?
  9. reading up on all of these safety threads and road racing, it is making me very nervous for my first track day
  10. i did the same exact thing, drove 12 miles to a beautiful z. i had a rust bucket with perfect mechanics, and i found a beautiful painted lambo yellow z from florida sitting in a garage in upstate ny. so what is a man to do? swap over the good mechanics from my rust bucket! i saw the lambo z on a thursday night, picked it up on saturday
  11. interesting. i just know that when i put new seats in my 77, the passenger went in really nice and when i used the same dimensions for the drivers side...nothing lined up the same and i had to use some nice elbow grease. fun...
  12. i have been meaning to ask about that, why is the drivers side always more difficult?
  13. that is one hot looking z! i know it doesn't matter, but if it were my car i would leave the body alone, throw on some nice deep dished wheels, some nice pearly paint, and an rb
  14. heck yes, freshman and lovin it
  15. i see you are in ny, what school? i am at RPI and i happened to find one that is foreign but the accent is not bad! so stoked on that one
  16. statics is such a great class. everything just seems to make perfect sense...
  17. whoa....thats crazy. a 240sx made to look like a z. i love it!
  18. i can't wait to graduate as a mechanical engineer. going to be awesome! and to share my excitement, i just got back from a physics test and totally PWNED THAT SHIZ! (sorry for the caps and incorrect grammer but that describes my feelings 100%) :)
  19. Phys. 1, gen. psych, calc1, Introduction to Engineering and Analysis (statics), and engineering processes.....been going for over a month now. physics and calc are review for me at the moment.....BORING engineering processes is basically a kick arse 3 hour machining class
  20. well i had an interesting experience at the autocrosses this past weekend...and yes my understeer was less anyways...i was doing great on saturday and then all of the sudden i start blowing this one fuse run after run. i figured it was one of the electrical gremlins but, just to make sure, i brought the baby home and popped the hood. sure enough my battery tie down ripped apart and the battery had some fun. during a hard left the battery slid out of place and the positive terminal made contact with ground. the bolt for the terminal completely melted off of the terminal and welded, yes, WELDED itself to the car. the result was one messed up battery tie down, a @#$%ed up battery terminal, some burns and funny smells, and frustration. i got a new tie down and had to make some "adapters" to make it fit more snug. the car ran great today so the z kicked some butt! 3rd in class. lost to a borrowed highly midified crx which usually runs in the higher class and a turbo'ed '08 subaru of some kind (sorry, i don't know subarus).
  21. not adjustable, and my tires are 245-45-16 all around
  22. that makes sense. this is my first rwd vehicle so it should be interesting. i am still a little confused though as to how trailbraking works. i also have an autocross this saturday at my school that will be more technical, so any pointers would be great. i also should have a new steering wheel, front strut bar, and airdam in the mail
  23. for the most part it is sounding like i was just simply coming in too hot. i guess i am too used to a fwd car. i was braking before the turns, but it sounds like not enough. there is a lot of work i am going to be doing over the winter and i think a wilwood setup is going to be one thing on the list. as far as my suspension settings--whatever came stock on a '77 280z 2+2. for sway bars i believe they are 7/8" front and rear. brand is unknown because the front was on the car when i got it and the rear was hidden in a garage of a friend
  24. whats the list? i am usually pretty easily convinced to spend money and i plan to have the car for many years to come
  25. I raced in my first autocross this past sunday and overall i was happy with how it went, but there are a few areas that i feel need to be addressed. first off, i was getting a lot of understeer with the front end. i would turn the wheel hard over to dive into a turn, and there was very minimal traction. tires were 245-45-16. not slicks. only suspension mods to the car at the moment are bigger sway bars front and rear, as well as a 4-pt. roll bar in the back. a front strut bar is in the mail. any thoughts on how to improve traction in the front? the only other major issue was single wheel spin in the rear, but we all know that the car would need the r200 lsd
