Man you are gettin to it... I better start bustin my ass! If you start looking through your electrical schematics youll find you only need oh about 20 of those wires, you can dump about 20 lbs of harnesses over what you have there lol. Anyhow, it would be sweet to hook everything up so you could take full advantage of the BCM, keyless entry, power windows, door looks, etc, etc

That looks sick, love the color and smooth engine bay!!

Another benifit to leaving the manifold in the stock position is that it allows you to use after-market plenums. This may not be a big deal for you since you may want to fabricate something yourself..but i thought it would be nice to throw on a kinetix plenum if I wanted. Course what you really should do is just got ITB

LOL yea I was trying to remember where I saw it...dhurrrr . Very slick setup.

Yup right on dual 2.5" to a single 3". I'm hoping it will sound good but I can definitely add a nice resonator right after the Y pipe. As for wiring, I am using the drive by wire and NATS system. As far as I know you cannot run the car on the stock ECU without both.

Nice, Looks like you have the engine in almost the identical spot that I do. I personally think that those mounts will preform fine...although it might as well be solid mounted! You still run into the same issue as me with putting a torque stress on the frame rails. With such a short lever arm I don't see it being an issue but never the less something to think about. I like the idea of routing the intake into the cowl since its a nice high pressure area. I saw one guys setup with a vq in a 240z and he laid a filter element under the entire cowl and make the entire wiper box the air box. He modified the intake manifold so that it went straight back and the throttle body literally opened into the cowl. I choose to use the stock manifold and route the piping to the front. its long but i think works well...helps fill up the engine bay and is easy to service etc.

Check out the customer reviews, course it sounds like all three were written by the same uneducated person...give it a try and let us know how it works! "I tried liquid chrome I bought the kit I did everything like the instruction says and I was very dissapointed this came out to be like a gray silver not even close to chrome like it said I think the price is too high for this product that dont work I had use in the past duplicolor chrome that is even better than this product just dont put clear in the duplicolor because it will change to gray or dont wax and it look like stainless steel not so much like chrome but this product not even close" "I tried your chrome & clear kit an was not impressed at all. In fact I was dissapointed." "I do not recommend this product is the worst product you can buy for that price dont even look nothing like the video duplicolor spray paint is better im really upset in spending $80 for this junk doing everything that it say to do and still came out to be the worst paint just look like a gray paint if you buy it is own your own risk I gave my advice I wish they could return my money back I will send the little bit left back so upset I am" Also I use there "almost chrome" powder and it certainly looks good but its not chrome, more of a ceramic coating look. But im sure it different then the paint and Ive never tried a black base.

You probably were lead to believe the 6 speed is junk due to the fact that the third gear syncro's went out in the 2003 cars. These were all recalled by Nissan and fixed... As for strength... I personally know several people with OVER 500whp that drive the snot out of their cars daily with no tranny problems. You will need forged pistons and a couple big turbos before you can blow the transmission. There are people online with much more power then that with apparently no issues. i havent weighted them but ive had them side by side the the z32 box is not a lightweight!! They are both large transmissions. The 6 speed box has a great feel to it as well, it shifts nice and crisp (with very short throws) and is very quiet. I also favor the close ratio 6 speed that it is. The 6th gear is not a super low gear its more like 5th gear in most cars. Check out the gear ratios: Z33 6 spd: 1: 3.794:1 2: 2.324:1 3: 1.624:1 4: 1.271:1 5: 1.000:1 6: 0.794:1 Z32 5 spd: 1: 3.214:1 2: 1.925:1 3: 1.302:1 4: 1.000:1 5: 0.752:1 People but the 30 heads on the 35 block so that they don't have to use the 350z wiring and ecu. It eliminates the VVT and yada yada, bottom line they don't make as much power...basically the cheap and easy way to get the motor running and not taking full advantage of what is there. I think you will find your best deal if you go to a wrecking yard and get the whole drivetrain as a package. You can get pretty much everything you need for under 5 grand. I am no expert though, I would definitly take wedge's advice and check out the nico board there is a ton of info there.

Yea I forgot to mention there are many other electrical things that you need to get from the guy if you haven't already!! These electrical parts are hard to come buy and are VERY expensive in the wrecking yards. You need: - ECU - BCM - Gas Pedal - Engine Harness - Engine Room Harness - Dash Harness - Ignition Switch w/ NATS module - Security Light (on dashboard) - Fuel Temperature Sensor. I think thats it. As far as I am aware YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE BCM AND NATS system to operated the factory ecu. It requires the chipped key to be read and recognized before the ECU will operate. Everything must be right or the car will not run over 2K rpms and will have to be taken to the dealership to get it out of "limp home" mode. You'll also have to have a Nissan Consult on the first start up to get everything initialized correctly. As far as I am aware only one person has made the factory harness work without splicing the entire system into the car. I was lucky enough to work with him and get all the information, however I respect the work that he put into it, he is a very knowledgeable nissan master tech. There for I wont be doing any type of write-up without full permission. I will say though that with the proper schematics and some electrical know how you should be able to figure it out, and Im not sure why people haven't yet! Hopefully he will be selling harnesses soon to do the swap with the factory stuff. He has a vq swapped 240sx that is quite a sleeper...last time i talked to him he was working on getting 240sx kits made. That being said if you have the cash and are planning on taking the motor to High Horsepower (over 600hp) I would prolly recommend Haltec. Its completely standalone and can control the cam timing. You can even get them preprogrammed from Accurate Injection. I talked with them a good bit and they seem to be a nice company to work with. I will be going that route if Things don't work out with the factory stuff. Whew and with all that being said I should be starting on the wiring in a week or two!!

Heck yea, That looks like a nice find! Thanks for posting the weight too I was very curious about that, my car definitely lifted up when I put the VQ in. It's Good to see another person doing this swap, im really excited to get mine on the road i think its going to be an awesome engine for the s30 and lots of poteintial to boot. As far as exhaust I just posted some pictures of mine, I think its going to be far from civil . These motors have a incredible exhaust note too, I'm just hoping it wont be too raspy with no cats and a straight through muffler. Anyway, Good luck with the swap!

Finally got a bit of time to work on the car and finished tacking the exhaust in place, next free weekend Ill be installing hangers and doing the final welding then the only thing left is wiring!!!!!!!! http://picasaweb.google.com/TwiistedSIXX/VQSwapOverview#

I just finished a swap for a fellow hybridZ'r in his super nice 280z. I had a buddy help me and we managed to finish the swap in one day. Just wanted to share a few tip with yall: 1. We we able to reuse the factory crossmember and mount, just cut the factory mounts off the transmission tunel and weld a reinforcement plate and ears a little farther back. 2. Reuse the L28 Throwout bearing AND COLLAR. Use the beefier z32 clutch fork. 3. Garrett's Driveshaft dimensions have worked perfect for both 240z's and 280z's. However make sure you order the right diff flange from powertrain industries.. There are two different bolt pattern, one is the square type flange the other is the beefier 300zx LSD flange. Here are a few pictures of the Shifter relocater I made. This was pretty easy to make (Around 2 hours) and very cheap. Its just made from 3/4" Mild steel square tube. Nice comparison of the gear box sizes!! Mark's Super nice car, I must say I admire his color scheme!!

What is it with Sellers and Paypal fees?
240hoke replied to TrumpetRhapsody's topic in Non Tech Board
I for one charge the paypal fee usually, i just add it in with shipping and handling. If its a large amount then I split it with the buyer. I agree that it should be stated up front and if they dont then you shouldn't have to pay it. I see it mainly as a convenience to the buyer... It isnt any more hassle for the me to wait to ship something, most buyers want their things NOW. When you receive money you still still have to transfer it into your bank account which usually takes longer then depositing a check but at least you know that you have verified funds. If somebody wants to send me a check or money order fine. You pay a fee to buy a MO and you pay for postage and it takes forever. But what it all comes down to is Paypal and EBAY are making a TON of money, and take what i feel is too much. I have started selling things locally and on forums just so I don't have to deal with it. -
The problem is that we are dealing with torque, and reinforcing or wrapping hte frame rails will just transfer the torque to the weaker metal and wont really add any strength at it..it will just break somewhere else. The proper way to address the problem is how it was discussed earlier with a crossmember... I personally have thicker rails, and don't think it will be an issue with the power Im looking to make. im the future when the swap is complete and running I will look into making a crossmember.

Hey, No I didnt weigh the motor, I don't really have a good way to do it. After i get everything running and i pull it all out to repaint the engine bay and stuff ill try and find a scale to weight it with. All stock electronics will be used including the nats system so the chipped 350z key must be used to start it. Ive been so busy this summer with school and work I havent got much done. however the only thing left pretty much is the exhaust the wiring. ive got all my exhaust stuff and started on the down pipes, its dual 2.5" to single 3" with a borla muffler... all stainless steel. I also have the wiring schematics and everything laid out, so i just gotta find some time to finish this thing. Here are the most recent pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/TwiistedSIXX/VQ?authkey=8G8qNDZQxfU

I have a 350z and I love it. I have to ask though why would any body swap the motor??? I could see the demand for a V8... which several people have done on my 350z with LS1's. But other then that the vq is a excellent motor capable of huge numbers. I would take one over a RB ANYDAY. its lightweight, has a huge aftermarket, and you can get parts right around the corner. There are plenty of 350zs cruising around with 600hp.

Ill have to post mine up tonight I just got the tag for my 350z in the mail: "DATSUN" I couldn't believe it was available.
-
Well I have lots of updates... I'm just aggravated with my website and looking for another way to build/host it. But yea it seems to be going down the drain like all my previous website attempts. Hopefully ill be able to put a little time in it soon.

If you could get the DBW motor to correctly operate the throttle linkage you would have a set sold to me.... and probably a ton of them to 350z guys. I wouldnt think it would be that hard but I guess liability is the bigger issue. Keep us updated!
