Your control arms look awesome! I want to build something very similar for my car.. also thanks for the coping link, looks handy and is now in my bookmarks! I have a few questions though on material use and construction. It may be a subject for a completely different thread in the fabrication section but thought i would mention it.
Here is an quote from a fab book I just finished reading:
"One final comment about using chrome moly - DON'T. There are few applications that warrant the use of chrome moly unless your building and airplane, a formula-1 car, or an indy car. Unfortunately, chrome-moly shteel has become trick. It literally falls into the category of "a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous"
It goes on to mention that annealed chrome-moly should be used for suspension parts and it should be preheated to around 500 degrees before welding to prevent thermal shock and crack. After welding the metal becomes brittle and need to be stress relieved. It says the affected zones should be heated to a cherry red color (around 1250F) and then allowed to cool slowly to room temperature.
I fall into the little bit of knowledge category but I thought I would just bring this up as its food for thought, and suspension failure wouldn't be a good thing.
Dont go SUMO... they are super fun around town. I built a sumo xr650r and had a blast on it, but just not practical for any type of interstate or distance riding, unless you gear it down a lot and then they are slow.
Im looking for another street bike now, just gotta sell the xr.
Yea don't get either of those bikes.
SV650's are really nice and make good transportation. You can take them to the track to boot. I'm assuming since your looking at those bikes you don't have much experience.. in such a case the sv650 is a great bike there as well, very easy to ride and still has lots of potential. They have nice torque and will feel better then a 600 around town. I like the naked version its loooks pretty sweet, especially the newer ones.
Oh and don't buy new! Buy a used one and save several thousand dollars. Its prolly gonna go down anyway
Looking good!!!
Ive got a set of these on the shelf waiting to be installed. They are sweet pieces. Ive never liked hood pins and when I finally needed a set these fit the bill... well made, lightweight, flush, and lockable.
Hey guys,
I was reading a metal fabrication book today and it referred me to this site. Looks like a great resource, Im sure Ill be doing some business with them in the near future.
They sell all sorts of header fabrication goods, and have L28 header flanges to boot. Down side is it look like its all mild steel. Another neat thing is they sell 50lb boxes of "mistake bends" that they bent wrong when making headers for around 150 bucks!
Anyway check it out

Nope, Ive been swampped with work and school. Hoping to get some good hours in this weekend and the next few weekends to come. Ill post updates on my site for sure when I get there. Im in the middle of a lot of things so I should have alot of updates when I get all these little things wrapped up.
Still hoping to get it done this summer (got 6 weeks left!!!). We will see.
Ill probably get bashed for saying this, but I dont like hardly any of the new MOMO wheels. They are way to flashy and tacky, they dont look like they were made for racing anymore but rather a tuner shop. Now the old ones like cygnusx1 has look great. The ones you have picked out looks good though compared to a lot of them I have seen... I would pick number 4 I believe.
I an a fan of Sparco wheels, they are nice simple, and work great. Not to mention they are pretty cheap.
It doesnt really make sense, but yea they do work. There is a local shop that tunes mustangs and 350z's with them and they put down some really nice numbers, only slightly less then conventional setups.
Haha, Its usually traveling down 40. I spend most of my time in Rawleigh I cant wait to finish school and get back to the charlotte/mooresville area.
Just got back from rockingham actually where I put down a blistering 14.2 LOL, I should have ran with the trailer. It was fun for a baseline anyway.
That is soooooooo sick, I hope I can do a front mount setup like that... except with a smaller turbo lol.
Thanks for sharing! You should invite him to the site.
I have a good job as an engineering intern and I don't have any extra mouths to feed.
But yea I might go turbo so I can increased my towing rating
Its a toss up between the cars as to which one gets the turbo.. I'm going to finish my 240z before I mess around with this thing any more...I just got done with classes last week so I'm hoping to have more time and get it on the road this summer, but this darned work thing is killing me... I hope I can make my hobby full time when I get out of school we will see..
LOL are you implying im "confused"?? I thought I had everything figure out the way it should be ... maybe someday Ill get a truck...but it will have to be a turbo diesel lol. Ive got some funny looks pulling the trailer.
I just got into the supermoto thing. I was doing track events on my gsxr750 but decided I wanted to build one of these things. Went through a lot to get it street legal and wire it etc etc... its ridiculously fun around town. I can swap from dirt to street in 30 minutes. I cant wait to take it to the mountains or perhaps the patriot course at VIR. Its too big to officially race in any supermoto event since its a 650.
Its more fun to be able to rip down gravel roads and jump curbs and wheelie through school zones and neighborhoods anyway
THE TRAILER HITCH
Me taking a load of z32 tranmissions to be shipped:
I can finally tote my scooter around!!!
I also dropped the car with tanabe GF210 springs and made some rear control arms for better camber adjustment (2 sets pictured):
Anyway Ive been having a lot of fun with this car its a good daily driver and I hope to get it out on the track soon, not super fast but it handles sweeet.
I hate the headlights they are hideous and the tuner fang bumper.
That being said I love my 03 350z Not the fastest thing in the world but it handles like its on rails.
I am culprit of using a few here or there, but to be honest I think it would be better if they were just left off the sight... there are much better and more descriptive words words to get your point across if you are trying to make one.
Doing away with them altogether would add another level or professionalism to the site.
I don't really care either way but thats my 2 cents.
I think I may have seen this car in person... at the triad Z show a while back.. I though the guy ran a powdercoating/plating business. But I could be mistaken.
And its right near me. In the next couple of years its gonna be sweet. All total within EASY driving distance we will have, nascar track, 1/8mi, 1/4mi, and a road course. Add a couple more hours to the drive and you get CMP, VIR, and Rockingham.. w00t.
Uhh I wouldn't get your hopes up.... its been over a year since they told us our cars from the previous SEZ would be featured. I talked to Art at Z nationals in Daytona, he actually saw me and was telling me how they were still gonna run the articlle...
Congrats on the pic though...
