  1. You just gave me an idea! Superglue the battery down...er wait a minute I think someone else did that already..Oh wait yes it happened to ME! Years and years ago buying junker winter beater. Darn thing was sealed to the battery tray!!
  2. That's not exactly what I was trying to get at. I was trying to say that someone who only wants a minor upgrade (insert mild cam, header, 4brl carbs etc) Doesn't want to hear bashing of some guys parts classified just because someone else thinks that they should not buy these parts because they should be doing a better upgrade (turbo motor, v8, standalone efi etc) But you do have it right. Keep your mouth shut and keep walking by if you don't like what they are selling. Buyer beware.
  3. Very difficult to police such a thing. You may post about your Weber DGV's for sale. Do you want someone to post up saying that they are junk, and that you should buy triple Webers, or go fuel injection because carburation sucks, and there is dyno proof behind it?...See where I'm going with this? What about dyno proof? My triple Webers were a huge improvement in power over stock SU's..on MY super modified engine. They may not be much of an improvement on a stock l24. Lots of opinions on what works or doesn't, or what you should or shouldn't do. Someone with a $1k budget for performance has much lower requirements than someone with a $20K budget. Who is someone else to say whether something is "good" for me?
  4. Well I'm new to the 944, but I have been enjoying mine for two seasons now. Very nice to drive, and handles great right out of the box. As for reliability, it is a 25yr old car, and stuff breaks. Goto rennlist.com and check out the 944 forum. It is very active, and has some very knowledgable folks on it. Oh and the same thing goes for all cars, maintanence is the key to happiness. Don't cheap out.
  5. Finally some pics of it back outside. I promise I'll get some shots of the interior. It is all back together with new carpet, stereo and speaker box, new door seals, and it is cleaner that it has been in years. I got a deal on refinishing the wheels, so that is the next project, I need to extend the exhaust tip, and that is pretty much it. I hope to have it available to sell in late July. This may be getting ahead of myself, but I would prefer to sell it for cash outright, but I'm a sucker for deals, so I would consider a partial trade for another 1st gen 240,260,280 (don't tell my wife) Cheers!
  6. Been a while, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been working on it. The weather has been crap, so I've been working in the garage. I have been a big baby lately, and refuse to leave my P car outside in the elements while I work on the Z. I have done this twice in the past, and twice it has been miserable and rainy overnight!! Well I thought I could get away with it this time, but I was wrong AGAIN. I'm three for three for leaving it outside overnight. Yea ok so I'm a suck and don't want the car to get wet/dirty/water marks on the car. When it is nice, I do pull the car out and centre the z in the garage to make it easier to work on. Ok enough of my bitching! Progress is being made. I have the front hood vents mounted, new battery cables, connectors, fuse panel wiring/connectors and quick disconnects. I spent a huge amount of time putting in carpet throughout the car. I had only the rear deck carpet for a template, so I had to cut the rest of it all by hand with lots of measurements, and final trimming once in place to be sure I wouldn't be short and have to redo it again! I added additional insulation/sound deadner before hand, and have to say the car looks much better with fresh carpet. I have begun cleaning up one of my spare centre consoles, preparing it for the new stereo, and modifing the stock switches for different uses, and added led indicators into the switch. I still have to clean up the wiring once the console is back in, and I cut everything to proper lengths. I have to glue the headliner as part of it is coming down, so that will be a new challenge. I've never done one before. I see the light at the end of the tunnel..God I hope I'm not dead!! Pics to come, they wouldn't be very flattering at this stage anyways, so once the console is in I'll post the pics.
  7. I only see 3 ways out of this situation. 1 If its a street car, then go all seasons. Your not pushing 500hp and going 200mph are you? 2 If you do have 500hp and plan on going 200mph, then man up and buy larger rims to go with the popular high performance rubber that is available now, and hopefully into the future. Yea it sucks, but at least they have modern tires for no holds barred performance. (Speed costs) 3 Don't have a ton of cash? Race tires on spare rims for the track, and all seasons for cruising the streets. Goodluck!
  8. Oh God what a waste of 5 min of my life! FAIL. Whats worse, is I recall the Acurazine thread (or whatever it was called) about the guy complaining about the girlfriend, then the girlfriend finds out about the posts, then logs on and starts posting! What a mess.
  9. Funny how things change over time. By the time I had built my car to my vision, my vision had changed. I then rebuilt the car with my new needs/wants in a sports car, then my vision changed again, and the cost of rebuilding was prohibitive given where I am in my life. The time and money I once had, I am now using for other things. So here is my advice. Modify the car to be able to enjoy it some more, or move on and don't look back. As other long time members here have told me, Z's are awsome, but there are many other awsome cars out there. Don't limit your self just because you have had the car a long time. Take care of yourself and goodluck with the car Scott.
  10. Sorry to hear about that Dave..It sure brings back memories of my brand new engine going boom due to lack of oil pan baffles. Who woulda thunk an extra 12" of rear track would allow for higher G turns?!! I hope you get it sorted.
  11. Go where the rest of the Z crowd seems to end up. We buy Porsches! My local Porsche club is full of previous Z owners. Heck some have a Z and a Porsche! (like me for example) As I have been reminded here on this forum by other long term Z owners, "There are other nice cars out there besides Z's" I do like the "just jump in and drive" feeling of the Porsche. I don't need to mod it. Good luck with what ever you choose, as long as you join the rest of us
  12. Whoa! looks like you were holding the can too close, and did not overlap your coats. (50/50 overlap is a general standard) I also see what looks like inconsistant travel speed (the speed of the tip of the applicator, in other words how fast you move the can accross the body) Practice on another scrap part to experiment first till you get the effect you are looking for. Good luck!
  13. My two biggest "must haves" for a garage no matter what size,(though bigger is better)are: 1 Insulation. For hot/cold protection as well as NOISE cancellation..don't want to upset the neighbours..or your own family! Don't forget to create an area for an air compressor...insulated so it doesn't upset YOU when working in the garage! 2 Paint it all nice and bright! Lighting is expensive, so painting the walls/floor and ceiling to maximize reflective lighting. Goodluck!
  14. Warmer weather is giving me more workspace. ( I could pull the other car outside) I removed the seats, console and carpets in the passenger area. Mainly did some cleaning, and spent a considerable amount of time removing what had to be 20 years of stereo wiring! lots of wire and rca cables for multiple amps. I have another centre console in better shape that I am going to clean up and install. I'm not sure how much more I have to do with wiring, but I'm going to inspect it, and clean up whats needs it most. There were several lights an aux switches that don't appear to be doing anything, but I need to trace them back to be sure. I have new door seals and carpets, so I'll be getting into that soon enough. I hope to have it ready to go in another month, but I'm so busy with work lately, I don't know how much energy I will be able to put into it.
  15. Here is some work I did to blend my extended/modded airdam into my fenders. I used expanding foam to create the basic shape, and fibreglass to smooth it all out. Has plenty of pics too. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/78287-zr8ed-two-piece-belly-pan-project/page__p__744059__hl__zr8ed__fromsearch__1#entry744059
  16. That lip on the front of the air dam was simple lawn edging from Home Depot. I had been using it to get the air dam a little closer to the ground, yet be flexible enough to survive steep driveways, and removable so I could replace it easily if it got damaged. I used it for more than 15 years. This is what the front end looks like now. I did this about a year ago.
  17. Probably the best pic ever taken of my car. An oldie but a goodie!
  18. I have done this kind of work, and if I were to do it again, I would try harder to find the flare you want first. They are much more available than they were 10 years ago. It is possible to blend them in, but it would be pure custom shaped by hand/eye. Takes some time/skill if you catch my meaning.
  19. Here is my Z (pre turbo v6) Painted 1990 Porsche Guards Red. Photo is circa 1998-1999 so the paint is about 9 years old at this time.
  20. Update: Winter may be winding down..or at least it is a bit warmer lately. I'm working on two project cars at the same time these days, and flipping from one to the other while I wait for parts or paint to dry etc. I cleaned out all the rear interior cargo area. I found a large speaker box imbedded in the floor decking with mostly blown speakers, empty holes and some huge horn tweeters. I ripped that all out, scraped/wire brushed, and vacuumed everything up, then painted it all, and installed new spare tire well drain plugs. I cut out new sub floor panels to replace the floor where the speaker box was recessed into. Looks way cleaner now. Oh while it was apart, I installed a new antenae mast. The repainted side vent emblems are installed as well. Feels good to be working in the garage again. Next is to pull the front seats/carpet and centre console. This will be a little bit larger job.
  21. 40's! I went to Florida once, and it was 42 degrees F. Everyone was wearing pants and coats...except the Canadians! I was wearing shorts and a T! It was way better than the minus 15 degrees F back home the previous day.
  22. Yes the turbo car is finally gone. Still hard to believe that I sold it. It was at the end of the season, so it will be spring time before it really sinks in that it is gone. It was overdue for me anyways. I was hanging on to it only because I had it so long and had so much invested into it.
  23. A quick update so that everyone knows that I'm still alive. Progress has been slow. I don't feel like working on it much in the winter time. I've been cleaning the emblems, and touch up the black backgrounds before I put them back on the car. I have a guy who will refinish the wheels for me, I just need to decide if it is a good bang for my buck investment. I still fully intend on selling the car this spring, and I want to do as much as I can on my own first, then spend money second. It will likely be a while before I update again, but I at least look at the car everyday. Sure looks nice and shiny!
  24. The only trouble I am having is that its too cold. I go out in the garage, shiver, then come back into the house and watch a movie in front of my fake fireplace. I think it is going to sit a while with only my other car to talk to. I may go back into the garage near spring. I have nothing critical to work on, and "while I'm at it" is something I have to watch out for!
  25. Wander over to any decent Porsche forum and you'll find a large group of "previous Z lovers" Must be a reason for it! Yea I'm biased. Go for the Porsche!
