  1. Well done mike!! Congrats on finally getting that 9 second pass!!
  2. Another one I have pondered about........... Mercedes Benz 450 slc... has to be the coupe... with your standard LSx engine.(maybe plus a supercharger. I think the supercharger whine would just suit this car well.)
  3. AGREED 100% Although I did mount mine below the floor and put a dzus fastened sheetmetal top/cover for it. I do have a 16 gallon plastic cheapo drag cell and regret it. I only removed the factory tank to shave the fuel door and put the filler behind the license plate. Instead, I have to remove 7 dzus fasteners to fill up my gas tank until I figure out exactly what I want to do and upgrade to a proper ATL cell. I wish I would have just modified the factory tank. As far as ground clearance goes, my cell is 11 inches tall and sits 1 inch below the rear deck. my cars rocker is at ~7 inches, and I have 7 3/4" from the bottom of the rear sump to the ground. Pictures to better illustrate.... I'm not sure if the rear deck is the same height across all s30's or not but either way, hopefully this helps some. and this is the current cover for the top... (I'm not exactly happy with it but it keeps the fumes and rain out.)
  4. do you have a wife or girlfriend...
  5. I just realized the car has offically been on the road for a year and happy to report there have been few mishaps. Other than a couple small things, the car/motor/drivetrain has held up great. My r/t style diff mount did end up needing repair a week ago, but that was a result of crappy welding with no gas when I first made it. So roughly 8,000 miles after the swap the car is still doing great!!!! I couldn't be happier with its performance. ok... on to the small updates. Finally hooked up the heater hoses. I'm not content with how they look but if it'll keep my butt warm, I'm happy. The heater control valve was rusted heavily, so for the time being I replaced the vacuum controlled valve with a couple brass fittings. The other cable controlled valve is still in place and works fine. And yes, I am still running that ridiculously tiny sized filter a year later Here is my quick attempt at cleaning up the under dash wiring. It still needs a little work and I need to get some proper sound deadening/heat barrier on the firewall. I'm also missing hte plastic peices that fit below the dash and on the firewall. Little bit ofsurface rust needs some attention too. Wiper motor wiring hooked back up and cleaned up. I was originally going to try and run the wiring through the cowl piece under the dash but didn't feel like messing with it, so I simply ziptied it up and made it look as best I could. A few weeks ago I moved the coolant temperature probe for the gauge to the top of the intake. I ziptied the wire to the throttle bracket to keep it looking clean. The probe wire, throttle cable and TV cable are all ziptied together and then split before the firewall.
  6. My absolute dream engine swap. I LOVE THE E31.
  7. http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=20240 Kind of crappy pics but I have seen this car in person and It actually looks pretty damn good.
  8. Started tearing apart the HVAC stuff. Planning on installing A/C in the near future and figured I should clean everything out. Also, I need to figure out what I want to do about the heater control valve that leaked when I hooked it up last year. Took me a while to get around to it, but a heater isn't necessarily a necessity in Texas. Some much need wiring clean up is in the plans as well. Everything torn out for the most part. Clearly need to do a little bit of cleaning. The leaky culprit..... Wiring that needs a little cleaned up... Little bit of rust on the fresh air vent under the cowl. Looks like mostly just surface rust. I'll throw some POR-15 on it before I bolt everything back up. Heater Box needs will get a through cleaning and inspection as well.
  9. I run a 17x8 with roughly a 20mm offset. My wheels have a 30mm offset but I have a 3/8" spacer in the rear. Clearance is pretty tight with my wheels but I don't have coilovers. I'm pretty sure those wheels should fit fine. I believe I got my math right on that.....
  10. Small update. Decided to paint the front calipers. They were looking a little dull and what not so I shot them real quick with some silver high temp paint. Although now it is abundantly clear how much smaller the brake setup looks now that the calipers have been "highlighted." I may still change them to black. lol Here are some miscellaneous pics I took..... I raised the back end of the car up with the stock isolators. I scrape less and the car doesn't have the squatting dog look anymore. I'll wait to drop it more when I buy some coilovers and section the front struts
  11. Van- 7 yr old german shepherd Addie - 1 1/2 yr old Lab Poised and ready to strike.... And ATTACK!!!!
  12. I have 17x8 and its already a VERYT tight fit with stock spring perches and without any quarter panel lip rolling/cutting. Click on the picture in my sig to see more pics of the fitment.(its my build thread but there are tons of pics towards the end) 17x9 might just barely fit with coilovers and a rolled/cut lip though. I probably wouldn't try and fit much larger than a 255 though. I have a friend with a set of 17x9 wheels in the same style wheel that i have now, I'll try and see if i can get him to drop by over the next weekend and swap them out to snap some pics and really show the clearance issues. I'm kind of curious myself.
  13. I was thinking...why is a thread about an alternator in the paint and body section, but holy crap that is insane. I never would have guessed that it would slice right through the hood. It always seems to be something.
  14. Yeah I still have the sbc swapped Z in my sig. Glad to hear you got the carb issues worked out. It's cool seeing another V8Z on the road. I don't run into them too often.
  15. I saw you on the road on saturday. My sister-in-law has a house on Lake Holbrook and I saw you driving down 69. I instantly recognized the car from Hybridz because of the lack of hood and that filter setup(very unique)... Car looked good and was damn loud... lol.... sounded good though. Kevin
  16. So true.... http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-behave-on-an-internet-forum
  17. nope.... light cycles
  18. That episode is what got me hooked on the show. It was the very first episode. I thought to myself, " this show can't be bad if there is a Z in the first episode... oh wait... oh no... the Z driver is a serial killer... CRAP... I did not see that coming:icon45:."
  19. On my car the spring perches are stock at all four corners. I shaved the lip of the perch down slightly to give that extra millimeter or two of clearance though. My rear setup includes the mustang bullitt wheels with 3/8" spacer. This combination yields me ~9mm clearance between the spring perch and tire. The tire choice will really effect whether or not you rub. I have two different brands front and rear(both 245/45/17), Kumhos run a little wide and rub slightly on big bumps in the rear but my sumitumos fit with no rubbing whatsoever in the rear. My front setup has ~3mm clearance from the perch to the inner wheel lip. Its close enough that you must have the stick on weights rather than the ones that clamp on the edge of the rim or else they will hit the spring perch. The clearance has been fine on the street but if you intend to track the car it might be a little close, I'm not entirely sure about that statement though. I'm not sure what the minimum clearance really is. Glad to see this thread was helpful.

  21. I don't think there is a disk setup that weighs less than the stock drums. I think upgraded shoes with good working equipment should be adequate depending on your goals.
  22. I have seen the following a lot lately. should of... could of... would of... SHOULD HAVE!!! COULD HAVE!!! WOULD HAVE!!! That is all.
  23. Hey jeff, hows it going? I've got about 11-12k in parts in the car. I've done everything to the car including paint so that figure doesn't reflect the amount of time and labor I have put in to the car. I know, in all reality, the car probably isn't worth more than 8k to the average Z guy, and that probably a stretch. Believe me, I know the car isn't worth 15k. I suppose my time is worth more than it would cost to build another one. I'm not ready for another long drawn out build. Meh.... I'll mull over the idea for a few more days, but more likely than not, the car is staying in my hands.
