  1. good to hear youre driving your car like you should.
  2. been daily driving my car for a while now, running very good, couple leaks to take care, nothing crazy, but i do notice this, when i floor the car(helps with mufflers so i can hear whats going on again) i feel this like rough noise coming from the rear of the car, nothing loud like a howl or anything like that, just like a rough scrapping noise, not audible at all except to a guy that spends too much time working on a car type noise. bugs me, any clues? sounds more like air anything really painful, but who knows?
  3. yes. with internal work, o-ring (block and crank may work, but you might wanna touch that if youre gonna street 500hp) big turbo, bov, indenpendent managment, crazy more stuff. big bucks
  4. makes me happy my car has plenty dings and primer on it right now, i will be scared for my life once i spray it though, people suck, some people only drive a to b and think nothing of their rides, people like us cherish these things, even more because most of us built em up from a pup. brake dust works good in these situations as well, one lady door checked me once, her car is a brillo pad now.
  5. i have my dream suspension already, adjustable coilovers on all fours, energy suspension kit, every piece on the car (thanx RON) reinforced motor, trans, and diff mounts, new driveshaft, every ujoint replaced, good springs and shocks(still dont know what kind but they are in good order), big front sway bar, everything from ball joints to mustache bar been covered, and man it rides solid!!! other styles might be better but im not mad at what ive got!
  6. loosening the rear sway bar at the links can reduce wheel hop, how worn are your tires, also check diff bushings for wear, most likely the sway bar is too tight causing some hop.
  7. i agree, the 70lt1 is it when it comes to 350 carb factory heat. no joke buildup from the factory big valve heads, four bolt main, no scrounging in the parts bin for this one, and thats rare. hard to find, you would have to buy the car to get one used. 350 in general are easy to find and its not very expensive to build any 350 hotter than that. i like my 327 because he wont die.
  8. all my next racing is at the track, two closecalls with the law in one day, i walked to school i was scared, whew....
  9. im a scarab as well, and the big cap will fit.
  10. i read somewhere that what looks good on a z generally doesnt look so good on a zx. the hottest thing i ever saw for a 280zx was this one thread where some european z place was offering a g nose, and it makes that car look real good.
  11. i took it easy when i pulled the cover, broke the gasket, put it back on and used black rtv on the lip and slapped it back on, doesnt leak, i was lucky. buying the gasket is good insurance, cause i think you have to dang near drop the stinky differential just to change it, and you dont want to do that.
  12. i went metal masters, i didnt do a planned bed procedure, but what i did was take it easy for a good 100 miles or so, easy and moderate stops for a good long time, now i bash my foot into the floor brake and it locks up if i try to lockem up, with modulation off and on pressure i can get some good stops out of them, havent tried more than two or three in a row, but i havent had trouble with the setup yet. this is with solid rotor and metal master.
  13. scarab is very simple, but jtr does make more sense if youre gonna do it in the first place, i hate to admit. my car came scarab, and its done me quite nicely, handles good for me(im a straight line guy anyway) and runs very cold. im still contemplating my turbo 6 project, i know ill miss that instant v8 gratification, but im infatuated with BOOST.
  14. the hot and somewhat inexpensive swap into a 74 celica is the 4agze, the supercharged mr2 motor which bolts up to the 85-86 4ag equipped gts corolla ae86er. if you wanna go loco, find the twincharger setup, the sc spools a turbo, and youre off to the races. sorry off topic, but hey, i was gonna do a old skool corolla til mrs.327 shook her head hell no.
  15. cool, im happy youre not upset. in the end people can do what they want, but a 70-78 z car with the hotrod influence is a truly eye opening experience and its so dang cool looking, fast and cool in general its hard to believe people wouldnt want a car like ours, but different strokes for different folks.
  16. tell me more. i was watching rally on speedvision and those cars straight sound like some frankenstein monster the way the turbo is setup, like a supersonic sound like a blower, but not as "geary" sounding, like this high pitched whistle. i like it. in the next coming months im gonna do a 280zt, using the l28e and the stock zxt setup, bov, and fmic, should be pretty spool happy, and make the blowoff sound!!!!! hey what about the cold start injector replaced with a full size one, i saw one car that had that and wonder how its set up and if it works well, i would think it wouldnt work so good because there is no angle there, and wouldigive off a good spray to help that much.... i say stock setup now to get it running but i want a fullblown turbo rocket to develop,BOOOOOOST.
  17. true very true. burning rubber does smell great to me.
  18. someone needs to document the zxt swap, wiring and such, im looking at my wangan midnite mobile now.
  19. its easier if you pull the wheel off, but you can get away with turning the wheel all the way to the left or right to get access, its a little cramped if you have large wheels. tell me what the lites are like, im looking into coppin a set.
  20. i might be wrong, but try this, gunk the front of the car,(be careful cause of efi components) wash it off, and start the car and watch it where you saw leaks(fillup coolant for sure)check hoses for leaks, could be spilling over, the timing cover doesnt hold antifreeze, it sounds like you have a loose hose clamp on the thermostat housing, or maybe leaking out of the housing itself. superdan said that car had 250hp, does it put out more now? i say stick with what you have for now, its a good setup with low miles. if its not from there, i really have no idea whats going, could be the water pump? i really dont think a complete tear down is neccessary. for 500 hp you gotta do a lot, and i think your intake is limited to 5k at most heads would be nice, but you dont have the intake to make it work right, and you might be slower. they make a lot of cams for tpi apps, you could bump one of those in and you would get up a little better,
  21. i call every import car a rice rocket no matter what engine it has in it. yeah im a poser, i have a hotrod covered in rice. if you wanna callem posers that works for me, i think thats a way better term because it includes the non-import cars that people make look fast. georgia flash- i never meant to say the z wasnt respected, it wouldnt have sold so much if it were, im saying these cars were everywhere, just like the hondas are today- that is the only similarity just to clarify. people did all types of stuff to make their car stick out from the rest, just like today, and this resulted in all the crazy options for styling, and racing developed some of the better ones im sure. im not saying people werent trying to really do the damn thing with a z car way back when, but you cant deny a good deal of early z owners went the styly POSER route with the whole deal? i dont think a fiberglass airdam is posing, i take mine off for the stock valance and it is a little twichier up top. oh well. pete-are you getting upset? you shouldnt, i get off on it. my motto above everything i say on this site is "do what you gotta do" sometimes you cant have the craziest car out there because sometimes its just not wise to spread yourself so thin. i run a mild 327, and im restraining myself from going bigger and crazier, but right now all i can and afford to do is make my car put more of that more than average power to the ground in different ways other than tearing down the motor and going nuts on it. i took the juice OFF the car because right now i cant really afford the repurccusions it could have , plus id try to kill myself with it, its too tempty. times have changed, and you know what i think, its the poser ricer cars that survived the 70s the best, the ones without the mods, because a lot of the ones with the mods rusted out, fell apart, or they were crashed, leaving the nice cars with airdams and rims exhaust and what not, we here bought them, and dropped in the pain, maybe its a good thing some people dont go all out.
  22. im not sure how about this, but the ford 289 is basically a destroked 302, and from my limited experience with fords i know the 302 to rev very nicely, i do believe it would rev faster with the even shorter stroke. five speed from mustang should bolt up. youll handle nearly the same as stock, but more power of course. fuel efficiency is a matter of keeping your foot from burying it into the floor, which will get increasingly harder to do.
  23. im a fast car freak, be it import or domestic, i like high revvers, turbos, chargers anything, i dig anything that can get up and go and get rubber doing so. but i really like cars i dont have to smog, and when it comes to the cool import cars you dont really have a lot of choice because there isnt the same underground scene for a r100 or a toyota corolla that there is for the Z, once i stumbled across that (through madmanadams site) the Z is the original rice rocket, i wasnt there back then but my boss and all of his friends said in the 70s they were just like the hondas. i think its the cause. yeah i thought that having a tv in your car was pure stupidity, until my buddy showed up in the 87 honda civic clunker with 17" chrome wheels, booming sound, and a big tv in the center console playing pornos in bumper to bumper traffic with the tv hooked up to the speakers, now thats cool. i have an import race car, with a v8 and no mufflers for almost a whole week of wot (just gotmy 2003 tags baby. vrooooooomvroooooooom.
