  1. I'll take some pics of my frame tonight after work.It will show how I tieing the rails to the rockers and to the hoop. This car will never see an SCCA event, I'm just stiffening the car for the extra hp I'll get with the RB.
  2. rsicard- are you planning on welding the 2x3 tube to the bottom of the floorpan? If so, as Jon pointed out, you will lose 1.5" of ground clearance. ( stock rails are approx 1/2" tall ).
  3. True, adding a box tube to tie in the front and rear subframes will be stronger and building a cage that ties into the box tube will be even stronger. But for the average Joe that just wants to stiffen a failing stock rail, the Bad Dog rails are more than adaquate. And adding the BD subframe connector to a new rail makes things alot stiffer than stock ever was.I designed and fabricate the BD rails and subframe connectors and they are purposley made for the average joe. They were designed to fit over the stock rails to minimize installation. That said, they are not for everyone, I am doing an RB swap and have gone the box tube route for the added strength.I'm using 1.5" X 3" with a .120" wall for the main rail. Its mounted half in and half out of the floor pan. It is tied into the rear of the rockers and when I build the 4 point cage, the main hoop will weld directly onto the new frame. This will be plenty strong to handle the added HP.It comes down to needs and abilities...if you dont have the need or the ability to install a full frame, then the BD parts are for you.
  4. Hang in there blood. Its good your taking care of that rust BEFORE installing the BD rails.
  5. Thats funny you mentioned a Mezzanine. I got a 32' X 24' with stairway, guard rails and 8' flourecent under lighting for the cost of disassembly and removal. I hired 3 of my employees to work under the table and in 8 hrs we had it down and palletized and back to my shop.I did some internet advertising and eventually sold it for $5k. They showed up with a flat bed, I loaded him up and off he went. This was from the same customer, they needed the space for the relocated machine shop.
  6. Chuck Norris doesnt need a lighter, he uses his rage to light up.
  7. I keep hearing theres a glut of used equipment.A customer of mine was relocating their machine shop from one building to another to both consoladate the operation and to downsize.I get a call to come and see if theres anything I want before it goes in a dumpster for scrap. I took a look and couldnt believe they were throwing this equipment away. I was told they could get more money scrapping than the used dealers would pay them. The wharehouses were already full.I took a beautiful Bridgeport, a lathe, a huge compressor, a stainless steel parts washer and a mess of other tools. All they wanted for the stuff was to be taken out to diner.I felt guilty for a while but I'm over it now.Any one need a $4k parts washer? I dont. Ron is right about the bed condition being a tell tale, but even if the bed looks good, make sure the ways are tight in both directions. If the bed can move in any direction its not supposed to, holding tight tolerances will be impossible.
  8. those are both custom made. The stock Y should work fine.
  9. I'll be sitting it into a frame with plenty of rubber padding and planned on cutting the mounting tabs off. Too bad Austin, we could have traded. I already gave my sumped stock tank to ZYA ( Pete) and ordered the new one.
  10. I agree John, that is by definition what constitutes a true "fuel cell". I refered to it as a cell because thats how Summit and Jegs describes their fuel tanks. I decided to go with an aluminum tank, sized to allow room for dual exhaust.
  11. I'll only do it if a car that I'm passing on a secondary single lane road decides to speed up while I'm passing.I slowly depress the brake pedal to get their attention and then progressively apply more brake . If it was an all out drag race to get by them, I have done this to a complete stop. Then I sat there and stared at them in my rearview and watched them lose their mind. The two times I did this, there werent any other cars present. If someone gates me on the highway, I just move over and let them by.
  12. Oh man, I think your fish are dead. That's some skanky looking water.
  13. I'm getting ready to order a cell for the Z. My gut tells me to go with alum but I wanted to hear what you all thought of the plastic units. I'll most likely just get something from Summit or Jegs. This is going in a street car with the occasional track day and AX.
  14. I didnt get one either, but turning 50 was better left unspoken. Anyway, CHEERS Pete!! Have a great day.
  15. Ya, its a great color but a dang fugly car. Clive, my pick would be a metalic charcoal like Mark Rolstons car for example. That looks great with the carbon accessories.
  16. Congrats, let the games begin. I have 2 boys and they're the best thing that ever happend to me.I wish you and your wife good luck.
  17. I would take advantage of the motor being out and throw some skip welds along that seam. It didnt come come stock with any gap there so something has moved.
  18. Not as long as he uses a good hole saw at a low rpm and watch's the color of the chips coming off. With a fair amount of downward pressure and low rpm, ss cuts just fine.If the chips start turning gold during the cut, slow the rpms down even more.If your seeing purple chips, your pretty much done and its become work hardend. If that happens, flip the part over and ( with a new hole saw ) cut from the back side. A little oil or cutting fluid is a good idea too. Make sure the part is clamped down well because just as the saw blade is coming thru the stock, its gonna grab and want to spin the part and lop off a digit.
  19. If your led's have a grommet surround, that will hide any irregularities in your hole cuts. Also, I'g go stainless, if you cut a pre-chromed pc, then you'd have to deal with the cut edges not being sealed and the cost to have them chromed after will be high.
  20. I have his coilover/camber plates on my car too. I opted to fab and weld the plates instead of bolting them, it just seamed cleaner. His stuff is top quality, I'd buy from them again.
  21. I made some prototype parts for them a year or so ago. Its pretty cool to see actually happening. What a mess it will be tho, guys will be trying to take off and land on the highways when they cant get immediate clearance from the local airports.
  22. I think it would be nice swap.I have a 2005 S and absolutley love the motor. The lack of any useful torque is something you need to get over.I compare it to riding a 125 2 strokeMX bike. With the 6 speed, and peak power between 6-8 k you need to keep it "on the pipe" to rip.Its relatively quik and would only be better with 4-5 hundred pound lighter Z.
  23. Thanks man, Ive got paypal in hand.I think this will go really well with SS hood I got from you.
